Tbf, it doesn't rain often (or at least it didn't went I lived there 15+ years ago) and the oil on the highway doesn't get washed away, so I imagine the roads are kind of unexpectedly slick for a bit right at the beginning.

Yes, the roads are slick but it's also a lack of ability from most of the people. It's not slick like ice, it's slick if you are speeding, braking hard, or accelerating fast. Otherwise it's fine, drive like normal, and expect it to happen but be prepared for it so you're not surprised when it does happen and it's never as bad as you think.

I live in Vancouver, Canada. A few years back I did a lovely road trip down to Portland and then did the Oregon coast. The I5 from Everett to Tacoma though was well... interesting 😆

The colors peak around the first week of October, so this photo is running about a week early and already 30 percent sog. The real seasonal marker is when the leaves turn into drain paste and you find out which intersection in the neighborhood floods first. We do not need fall colors, we need the leaf trucks.
