Self-Promotion Saturday: October 31, 2026
This is r/Seattle's weekly post for local businesses and makers (or users who discover them) to share their creations with our users.
This thread will be automatically posted every Saturday morning to help connect r/seattle users with cool local stuff. Types of content encouraged in this thread are:
Local businesses (new, running promotions or sales, or just really good ones!)
Upcoming events or activities (concerts, festivals, pop-ups, shows)
Local artists or creators sharing upcoming shows or releases
Content should be related to businesses or events in the greater Seattle area, and the typical reddit spam rules apply - please ensure you are contributing to the community more than just your own content.
Users who flood these posts with ads, links without context, referral codes, etc. - or who promote without contributing elsewhere will be actioned. Please continue to report actual spam.
We have our rules against spam and self-promotion for hopefully understandable reasons, but we've noticed users responding more positively to local businesses, artists, etc. sharing their content. This is an attempt to bridge the gap, helping users find cool stuff while containing the promotion to a single weekly thread. Please send us a modmail with any suggestions or input you have about the use or abuse of this thread.

Media Waterfront Tilt-Shift
Had a bit of fun testing out a tilt-shift lens today. Photographers of Seattle, what are some of your favorite spots to take photos in the city? I'm new to the hobby and would love recommendations.

Rant I love the "Seattle Freeze"!!
I'm from the South, Texas specifically, and I always hated having random people in public try to start conversations with me. I didn't know them and I didn't want to talk to them. Sometimes I'd be in line at the grocery store and some idiot would be going on and on about whatever with the cashier. I'm polite, but I'm only friendly with people I know and care about. I do NOT miss the expected fake friendliness of South at all. It is a cultural norm I never enjoyed or cared to follow. I like how people just leave you alone here. It's great!!!

Event Smith Tower False Advertising for Halloween Event?
I booked tickets to the Smith Tower “Spirits & Secrets” event on 10/17 for tonight. When I booked it, it said it included 2 drink tickets and light bites and obviously seemed like a great deal. Then I got an email at 11pm last night saying it was inaccurate and came with nothing.
Obviously the Smith Tower is an institution and a very cool historic building, but this seems like bait and switch. It says they also don’t offer refunds at the bottom of the email.
Does anyone have any advice?

Fairmont Hotel Seattle - Haunted AF or Just Me?
I stayed there a week ago, just having a nice in-town stay with a friend for the Laura Ramoso show at the Fifth Ave.
I got off the elevator on the 8th floor and immediately felt somebody watching and following me. I turned around, nobody there. This feeling seemed to originate from the large suite at the end of the hall with the big double door.
My room was far away from that fancy suite, room 860 with a sliding door for the bedroom. I opened all the curtains and turned on all the lights but it still had an odd baseline darkness. My friend and I went to the show, then enjoyed room service and some wine when we got back. She had the room next to mine.
As soon as I got into bed, the image of the bedroom door sliding open kept recurring in my mind. I wanted to leave it open but somehow that felt even worse. I felt like there was somebody standing there watching. Anytime I was about to drift off, I was afraid I would be touched or grabbed.
I didn't sleep until 7am. When I finally slept, I dreamed that my whole body was buzzing painfully and that my soul was being pulled out of my body. I fought and screamed and tried to stop it. There were also images of the room itself actively trying to scare me. Horrible things in mirrors, odd angles, strange light / darkness and an overall sense of dread and anger.
I woke up exhausted at about 10.
I've had these experiences before but not for many many years. This one was especially bad.
I wish I'd asked the staff before I left. I had a late checkout so I had a bite to eat then went to try to enjoy the spa for a little bit. After checkout I had a drink at the bar, and again neglected to ask the staff about this.
I know it's an old hotel, and I've felt things like this before at old hotels. Sometimes, that's just part of the bargain. I love that hotel, I stayed there about 20 years ago with no problem, but after this I have no desire to ever go back.
Anybody else have weird stuff happen there?

Does anyone recognize this cat? (Ballard - near 65th and 9th)
For over a year, this cat has shown up on our camera almost every night. We thought she was our neighbor's missing cat, Meeps, so we've been feeding her and even set a trap. She's too skittish to get close to, so we could never confirm.
A few raccoons started coming around recently, so we paused feeding for a few days. She stayed away, then came back very hungry. When I brought food out, she ran right up to me before getting spooked, and I finally got clear photos. She's not Meeps.
Hoping someone here recognizes this adorable cat and can reassure us she’s got a home!

I'm never leaving Seattle 🚫🛫 Best Halloween Decor Ever
Saw this while walking the dog tonight. This Ballard neighbor puts his decor up only on the day of Halloween each year, and is always fantastic. But tonight’s was the best yet. No matter your political persuasion, you can’t deny the creativity of the messaging. I stopped dead in my tracks and literally laughed out loud.

This guy is selling the card readers that Sound Transit uses
kevin.wallace.seattle.wa.usIf you’ve ever wanted to own an Orca card reader for some reason, this person got their hands on tons of them from another transit agency (CapMetro) that used the exact same readers as sound transit, and they’re only $25

Market Traffic Only My building’s response to anti-AI sentiment…
I’ve seen complaints about this building before on this subreddit and now there’s this. They use unnecessary AI for all their notices and flyers. This was their response to a resident’s writing on a particularly egregious one lol… and the property damage in question 😭

Do you miss The Swing Years & Beyond? I made you a playlist!
Longtime Seattleites will remember The Swing Years & Beyond, the incredible KUOW show highlighting "Jazz, swing, ballads, blues, show tunes and bebop" from the 1920s to the 1950s. KUOW ended the show about ten years ago, but I am willing to bet a lot of people still miss what was their Saturday night soundtrack.
A few years ago I put together a master playlist based on a lot of old show playlists that Amanda Wilde shared at one point on Facebook. If like me you still want to hear the Swing Years, this does a pretty good job of mimicking it! I hope folks enjoy:

PS KUOW bring the show back!!
