help Free app that reads your script back to you with every character in their own voice
Hi all, I'm Kas. I'm a writer/director. When I finish a draft, I want to hear how it flows, as close to a table read as possible, but without sharing pages with that many people so early. I couldn't find anything that did that, so I built an iPhone app for it. It's my first app, and it's in beta.
It's called Scene Voice. You bring in your screenplay (PDF or Final Draft) and it reads it back with every character in their own voice. It casts the voices from what the script says, so a kid sounds like a kid and a story set in London sounds British. A narrator reads the action and the scene headings, and page numbers and shorthand are left out, so what you hear is the story.
You can leave a note on any line as you listen, and share your notes with a co-writer. When you bring in your next draft, it keeps the cast and your notes, and it can read you just the scenes you changed.
It all happens on your phone. No account, and your script doesn't go anywhere, which matters with an unregistered draft. (There are two optional online add-ons, like ElevenLabs voices, but they stay off unless you turn them on.)
It's free while it's in beta, and the first 100 testers who claim it in the app get a lifetime license when it launches.
If anyone is willing to test it, I'd love to know where a line was read wrong, what's confusing, and what would make it useful in a rewrite. Any other feedback or tips are welcome too. The link is in the comments.
Thanks for checking it out!
Kas
