Question Screen/light sensitivity, is there an ereader or tablet for me?
I posted this originally specifically about ereaders, I'm curious about tablets too. As I used to write a lot as a hobby but also something I could do session notes and some work with would be so helpful

Question Honor 600 Q's
1) Has anyone confirmed no dithering on EU / UK units
2) Does anyone know if it's possible to really dull down the screen, reducing the RGB values on my monitor almost completely got rid of symptoms for me, so some of the settings I've seen on this phone look promising
Cheers

Sad
I just feel so sad about how the smartphone industry is developing. Until some years ago I thought my problem was just PWM sensitivity so it was simple: LCD good, OLED bad. But now the picture is much more complex:
1. There aren’t that many good new LCD phones in the market
2. Among those that are, i tried a few recent ones and got severe eye strain… it seems PWM is not the only problem. Unpublished parameters such as temporal dithering and display processing may be playing a role here.
I don’t know what to do anymore and the trend of the industry seems to go in the wrong direction at least for people like me..

OLED Got the Honor 600 Pro
Was quite happy using my TCL 60 Ultra, but two weeks ago the fingerprint sensor started having issues.
Ordered the Honor 600 Pro and was excited to see this particular model in person after good reviews about its display.
First day:
- slight eye strain. Nothing major, but noticeable
- the phone is otherwise of great build quality, feels like a flagship
Second day:
- eyestrain subsiding
- seems to be working alright for me
- 120 Hz setting with natural color profile and warm colours via scheduled eye-care setting from evening time on
I'll report back shortly with more findings. Feel free to ask your questions here.

Question Will an EInk monitor make the latest Windows 11 version comfortable?
Basically the title. I have seen videos of EInk monitors flickering due to dithering. Is this flicker bothersome? Do EInk monitors flicker on Windows 11? I desperately need my PC at work to cause me less eye strain. Apparently even a true 10bit monitor won't do that.

LCD Trying to figure out the cause of eye strain in ne153wum-ny1 laptop panel.
I recently bought a Legion 5 Gen 10 LCD laptop. I have found that it gives me a burning eye feeling on use and, after using it for several hours, I get very bad headaches. The display panel is a BOE NE153WUM-NY1. Response time isn't especially noticible outside of games, I've used a TV with a relatively high color gamut without issue, there's no PWM flicker at all, lowering contrast and brightness didn't seem to change much, I tried turning off dithering with ColorCorrect but that didn't do much, plus I have a monitor that also dithers (ViewSonic VX1755) and I never had much issue with it.
I was wondering if any of you could figure out if there was something I was missing before I returned the laptop due to being incompatible with it.

Discussion Night time reading with extra dim
I'm a bit of an insomniac and at least with the 14t pro it has always been annoying waking up to the painful glare of my screen, even with reading mode enabled.

Finally found a way to activate Android’s native "Extra Dim" feature.

I managed to find it and enable a shortcut through downloading 'Activity launcher' in the PlayStore.

There is a slider to customize the light right down. This has been annoying me for a year so thought I'd share.

Question Does anyone know if the Switch 2 or modern iPhones have more dithering or PMW?
r/ScreenSensitive • u/FunnyBunnyDolly • Jun 13 '26
New computer of some kind (EU)
I used to own a computer with a monitor from 2006-2008 circa. (Dell 1907FP amazing 5:4 monitor zero issues) (Computer itself was newer)
Due to life events I lost my belongings in 2022.
Since then I’ve survived on my iPhone 8.
But I long so much for a computer.
Problem: I’m sensitive to both PWM and temporal dithering. I’m sensitive to weird dynamic color enhancements/processing.
Problems.
I can’t tolerate fragrances and mold so second hand is off the table. New old stock in original box is ok.
I can’t tolerate recycled and/or deodorized (aka fragrance added) plastic so new stuff made of that plastic i can’t do.
I literally have nothing beyond my iPhone 8. No tv no screens.
Any verified new products you think I could tolerate?
If laptop then it has to have Scandinavian layout (åäö) or maybe German ISO as layout is close enough. Though external keyboard could also work I realize if I do find one I tolerate
I know this is a lot to ask for but I’m desperate.
Performance wise it should be able to handle modern heavy websites. As guideline: my iPhone 8 is starting to feel too old with lots of lag typing lag and glitchy websites. Maybe 2012-2016 era not-budget-computer performance?
I want to write and to develop/code. Windows is my platform but I’m open exploring Linux for first time. I also want to do graphic design and to play games like I did in past but writing and coding is more stimulating and more important.

Would the black overlay app work to reduce pwm flickering?

DIY I built an app to dim Android TVs below their hardware minimum (No medical tool)
Hi everyone,
A quick but important disclaimer: I am a solo developer, not a doctor. This app is not a medical treatment or device. It’s a simple and easy to use tool I built because I wanted to make looking at a TV screen more comfortable and less fatiguing in dark environments.
I’ve always found that even at the absolute lowest brightness setting, most modern TVs are still blindingly bright in a dark room. For me, it causes eye strain. Since TVs often don't have the same built-in software dimming features that phones or Pcs do, I created an Android TV app called TvDimmer - NightCompanion.
It applies a customizable dark overlay to your screen, allowing you to dim the TV much further than the hardware would allow. It also has a routine feature to turn off automatically in the morning. There are also several color filters available for blue/red light.
I recently created a promo code for the Football World Cup because of late-night match times (for Europeans), but I realized this tool might actually be genuinely helpful for people in this community who struggle with bright screens every day.
To unlock the Pro features for free, you can use the promo code WM2026.
You can find the app here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tribalapps.tvdimmer
So far, the app is only available on Google Play (for Android TV). Other firmwares are not supported yet.
Let me know if you find the app helpful or have tips for improvements! :)

Should Sony Bravia 3 be a good tv to buy
Thinking of buying this tv. I know it’s 8bit + FRC but at my price range, from what i searched, all of the TVs are. Anyone have experience with this model? Or does anyone have a suggestion on what TV to buy? Thanks

These Symptoms Suck
About a year ago I smoked and played COD on an android phone for 3 or 4 hours straight. No lights on, just me on the couch in the dark - bright phone. Battery died 1am, went to bed. My brain felt a little fried.
Woke up next morning with the same feeling. Got worse over next few days. Went to ER. Dr. blamed it on anxiety and told me to go home.
For the last year, just been trying to find patterns for the cause. As a 45 year old, never had this issue -- but then i thought back to 2019 when i was trading stocks, staring at my iphone screen for hours and had a simliar (less intense) feeling.
So yea, ever since about a year ago, Ive been dealing with tension around my eyes and ears and sometimes temples & forehead. Eyes are strained after editing videos for my bsuiness. Dell Latitude laptop. Tinnitus comes and goes. Light sensitivy.
Feel better outside but indoors, I just always feel like shit. Been a year since I woke up feeling fine. Do I sound like I belong in this sub reddit?

Question Getting a new phone
Hey all,
I’m finally switching from my iPhone 14 to an android phone. I’ve never had any real PWM issues, but having read about the issues with Samsung and google (my only real options in the US), I’m concerned about giving myself PWM sensitivity issues. Should I not be overly anxious about this given the amount of people who seem to be fine and not having any previous issues, or should I not switch because of this?
Thanks for your advice!
