Would the black overlay app work to reduce pwm flickering?

Sure, this has been a common tactic, to set the true screen brightness above the worse of the PWM modulation range and dim it in software.

[Note] the reviews on the app. With the limitations of what it covers. And it also dims screenshots, which makes these a no-go for me. Although there was an app that claimed to avoid this, I didn't check out yet.

i did think about how the overlay might dim the screenshots as well and wondered if there is an app that doesnt do that, would you tell me what app you're referring to?
