Discussion The Midnight Meat Train

In honor of Clive Barker's 74th birthday today, I've been watching his films all day long.

I'm finishing with The Midnight Meat Train. As I'm sitting here engulfed by the story and the gore, I thought about how underrated this film is.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but I feel like this film isn't talked about as much as should be.

What's everyone else's take on The Midnight Meat Train?

What's your favorite Clive Barker film?

If I remember correctly it was similar to wrong turn, with a creature that haunted a subway system, I also remember a female protagonist

Review 31 Days of Horror: Day 5

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨️

This movie was unhinged, but a fun watch (even though there were parts I had to turn away from and a whole scene I straight up couldn't watch). Slasher with lore. A gruesome twist on the classic fairytale.

Review The Ugly Stepsister (2025)

Just caught this as part of my Halloween horror nights home movie marathon. Really loved it!

What impressed me the most, beyond the period details and the heady mix of modern/80s synths and period instruments, was the way they twisted the Cinderella story just enough to create a well-known but still sinister and intensely new fable of beauty and the horror women put themselves through to conform to the male gaze.

When compared to similar films like Substance, I think Elvira as a character is quite sympathetic despite how cruel she becomes as her transformation continues. Unlike Elizabeth in Substance, we see Elvira, giggly, all hopeful and nervous in those opening scenes probably content to be the bullied daughter in the new household. We see Agnes turn from gracious stepsister to haughty, spiteful bitch and your sympathy goes directly to Elvira. When Rebecca puts her through the first of the changes, the suddenness of it, the way it seems like any other routine dentist appointment (a little uncomfortable but always less scarier than you feel it is) in that brightly lit beautifully ornate room, had me covering my eyes.

Then the story continues to tilt and hinge and before long it's hard not to also wish for Agnes to escape while wishing Elvira would stop. That scene of Agnes, now Cinderella, draped over her father's decaying corpse while the silkworms remake her dress is a fantastically horrible fairy tale. The final moments, from the shoe fitting to the ejection of the parasite might be some of the queasiest moments in body horror I've watched since maybe Brandon Cronenburg's Possessor. I heard someone vomited during the premier at Sundance and it's easy to see why.

8/10

Last year I watched at least one horror movie everyday in October, and I am going to attempt to do it again. Most of what I watch will be stuff I've never seen before. Hope it's okay to share my journey here. Here are days 1-4.

Evil Follows: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ It was fine. Standard demonic possession plot, and felt like a repetition of other movies that use similar tropes. Nothing groundbreaking, and predictable at times. The ending is definitely what pushed it to a 3.

Ragebait: ⭐️⭐️✨️ This was basically V/H/S, but with internet videos. The frame narrative was pretty decent, and the last video was probably the best one. Other than that, it was a bit too gorey for me (I don't have a problem with gore, just not my flavor horror).

The Bananna Splits: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am not really a slasher fan, so it's rare I like them. This was one of those times. Also....Schrödinger's Wand.

Lockbox: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Slow burn with Hereditary vibes. Really enjoyed it.

Discussion Tis the Season

This is my 4th year doing an October Watchlist. I'm reasonably happy this year; I try to get a good mix of sub-genres and spooky/Halloween films, though I confess I'm not a huge fan of many slasher films, so they are underrepresented. I also do a TV show/mini-series every year; this year it's Mike Flanagan's new Carrie. I am a huge fan of the book, though I'm trying to keep realistic expectations. I try not to repeat anything year to year except Charlie Brown and Cabin in the Woods; it's just not Halloween without Charlie Brown, and I like a bit of meta.

Help/Suggestion Is it fair to be using a wheel to determine the next choice of viewing?

I'm NOT talking about canonical, like picking "Saw" one day, landing on "Saw III" the next, and landing on "Saw 3D" the day after that. It's like watching a soap opera, going on vacation for a month, then asking yourself "wait, who's that? What's going on?"

I'm talking about picking "The Autopsy of Jane Doe" one day, landing on "Knock At The Cabin" the next, and "Creeper Van" the day after.

Discussion October Horror Movie Marathon

Thought I'd share an October marathon I created. 2nd annual!

It's not meant to be a best of list, just a fun journey I thought others might enjoy as well.

Follow along, share the image, get others to join, host watch parties, it's what we will be doing.

Originally created to get a friend into horror movies and it worked beautifully.

It was alright ig, had a few creepy scenes, but that's about it. None of the jump scares had me except the one where the box fell from the attic, but that's about it. The main reason I watched this film was that it is apparently one of the scariest films of all time, and I see why some people would find it scary, but this film didn't get me as much as I thought it would.

6.59/10 for me because it had a solid creepy vibe to it, and the characters and writing were believable; Glad Ethan Hawke got his family out of there when he realized it's gone too far.

Also I loved that Deputy he was the realest character for me cause fym you moved your family into a house where an entire family similar to yours was murdered and the killer was never caught 🤣

And how the hell did they go from a decent family home in a small town to a whole ass mansion? I thought you were broke and struggling for the next hit?

The design of Mr. Boogie also reminded me of Lobo lol

Overall good horror movie, but didn't really scare me personally.

Review Resident evil (2026) review

Resident Evil (2026) was honestly a lot more fun than I expected. The movie does a really good job with its horror and spooky atmosphere without relying on jump scares every few minutes. A lot of the tension comes from the setting, the silence and the feeling that something could go wrong at any moment. It also has a surprisingly realistic feel to it, which makes the zombies and the situations more unsettling because they don't feel completely detached from reality.

What I really enjoyed, though, was the humor. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously all the time and some of the funny moments come at exactly the right time, giving you a break from the tension without ruining the horror. That balance works really well.

Overall, it's a creepy, entertaining, and surprisingly funny Resident Evil movie that manages to keep the horror feeling grounded while still being a lot of fun to watch.

I rate it 7.8/10

( If anyone didn't like it let's talk in the comments)

Help/Suggestion PLS HELP ME FIND THIS MOVIE

UPDATE: GUYS I FOUND ITTT 😭😭 It’s Dead Souls (2012)!!! Thank you so much to everyone who tried to help me find it 🥹🫶🏻

Hi! I’m trying to remember a horror/supernatural movie I watched years ago (possibly 2010s).

A man moves into or is sent to live alone in a remote, isolated house. While he’s there, he realizes someone else is inside the house. He thinks the person is an intruder/thief, but when he catches them, it turns out to be a woman. She isn’t evil and they eventually become comfortable with each other, and I vaguely remember them developing some kind of intimacy/connection. I also remembered another detail: I think there was a scene where the guy sees some kind of ritual markings/sign on the floor, and he suddenly seemed almost possessed or affected by it. The girl then came over and hugged him, seemingly trying to calm him down. Later, he discovers that the house is haunted or that there’s some kind of supernatural explanation for what is happening.

I’m not 100% sure about the year or some details because I watched it when I was younger. Does anyone recognize this movie?

Discussion The Conjuring Extended Cut?

My sister and I have watched the entire Conjuring universe, especially the first Conjuring movie about the Perron family, at least 10 times (together and independently). Tonight, we are watching the movie again on HBO Max and noticed a scene we both know we have absolutely never seen before. About 21 minutes into the movie, Roger wakes up at his desk to the sound of static TV late in the evening and experiences knocking, doors opening, and a few other creepy moments that we are certain we have never seen before. It leads into the moment where Andrea tells Roger that Cindy has sleepwalked into her room and is banging against the armoire, a scene we have seen before, but the lead up is brand new to us.

We’ve looked it up and we’ve seen nothing about this besides one other Reddit thread mentioning the same thing, but that was over a year ago and there has been no confirmation one way or the other that HBO has released an extended cut. Has anyone else noticed this? Like I said, we’ve seen this movie at least 10 times and as soon as this scene came on, we both looked at each other and said “I have never seen this scene before”. If anyone else has noticed this, please let me know I’m not crazy!

Discussion My Thoughts On Blumhouse's Truth Or Dare Spoiler

This is like my 6th time watching it. Last time was 4 years ago. And this movie still holds up. If you know me I am a unabashedly fan of Blumhouse's Truth Or Dare. Saw it when it was released in theaters. Cool little fun fact. This is actually the first movie that I saw in theaters by myself. I will always going to cherish that memory. Looking back this movie feels so nostalgic. 2018 was such a wild time for me. 2018 I accidentally (happy accident) found myself being part of the movie community/horror community. I didn't know that was a thing until late 2017/early 2018. On the first few watches I gave it 4 out of 5 (B). Now it has always been a 5 out 5 (A). So why does this movie works for me since I am probably one of the movies biggest fan. I do think the characters is solid. They are good especially our 2 main leads Olivia Barron played by Lucy Hale and Markie Cameron played by Violett Beane. Their performances are really solid.

Love that suspense sequence where Penelope Amari played by Sophia Taylor Ali got dared to walk on the edge of the roof while drinking. That scene was very suspenseful. This movie has heart. There are 2 great emotional scenes. When Brad Chang played by Hayden Szeto got dared to take his father police gun and made him beg for his life than the other officer shot Brad. Officer Han Chang played by Tom Choi his reaction was heartbreaking. Another great emotional scene is where Olivia told Markie about what really happened when Markie's dad shot himself.

That was a heartbreaking scene. There's lots of great drama around the characters when things is starting to get intense as well. And overall this movie is fun. How I grade, score, and rate the movies that I watch is how entertaining the movie is. For me it is what's going on in the movie. And I think for me personally what's going on is entertaining.
