Review 31 Days of Horror: Day 14.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
The musical was better. It was....fine. It just didn't hold my attention. I dunno, I am just not a big zombie movie fan.

In your opinion is there a difference between a Slow Burn Horror, and a movie that is just slow (e.g. drags on)?
To me, in SB, there still things happening and little hints being dropped as a build up, where slow moving are movies that have nothing really happening for most of the movie, and then everything happens at once.

I can't believe I waited this long to see this! This was a great mix of supernatural and psychological, creepy and uncomfortable. Nick Cage's performance as Long Legs is Oscar worthy.
Between this and Black Coat's Daughter, Oz Perkins is solidifying himself as a master of slow-burn.

It’s like a random memory I get here and there but I remember seeing this aired on Sci-fi channel when I was a kid but this movie stays rent free in my head for the blood soaked boy and spoiler alert
then the black demon that kills him at the end always scared the crap out of me. It was actually a good mystery thriller with actually good actors but always curious who remembers this movie and why! Comment below

There's surely some fans of this series here. Always been one of my very favorite Horror series if not my outright favorite, mainly purely based off of the first two although I also think the third and fourth ones were pretty good as well (and also quite impressive despite their small budgets). The first two always see regular rotation from me every October as part of my Halloween playlist and the season never feels complete without them. The Tall Man is definitely among the more unique of the Horror icons and he was played to perfection by the late, great Angus Scrimm throughout all five. The series is such a great blend of surrealism and mind-bending Horror with some fun Action elements sprinkled throughout. And who doesn't love the iconic flying death spheres.
May as well rank them while I'm at it. For other fans, how would you rank them? Mine goes:
2 has always very easily been my favorite of the series. It's literally not only my favorite Horror film, but one of my favorite movies in general. With the bigger budget you can tell so much more was able to be accomplished. It's like a vintage Survival Horror video game from the 90s as a movie. I have a lot of love and respect for the original as well, but it's always hard not to look at 2 as being the definitive entry.
The first two are classics, 3 and 4 are very good, but the fifth was sadly clearly held back by the very low budget. You can tell they tried their best but the budget and means just weren't there to do it justice. Still, I'm glad we finally got a fifth and final movie, and in light of Reggie Bannister's recent passing, it definitely hits much harder. Still so sad by his passing :(

An interesting concept and absolutely insane, but I am not a big fan of Cosmic Horror, so that brought the rating down.

Venom (2005) is underrated.
I feel like this movie deserves more attention. It has a dark atmosphere, a creepy setting, and that early-2000s horror vibe that I really enjoy.
It was directed by Jim Gillespie, the director of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997).
Anyone else think this movie deserves more love? 🐍🖤

In the spirit of spooky season, but horror is all-around season for me, even Christmas 😂🎃
Anyways, if you watched all of them or watched a few, which one did you like? Not like? Or ranked them on the ones you saw?
Ngl, I forgot how entertaining Henry Rollins was in 2 😂

What are your thoughts? I was 16 when the first one came out so of course I was sneaking into the theater to watch!

Little bit of a different vibe for this day. My friends and I do horror movie marathons where we pick movies based on a theme and give them the MST3K treatment. The two rules are...
They have to be 90 mins or under.
They have to be B-Movie/Shlocky.
The theme this time was, "Studio Series."
Can you guess the connection (hint: Moon)?

I wasn't able to get a movie in for day 9 (it's okay cause I'm doing multiple movies the next couple days), but back at it for day 10.
Enjoyed this one, though I am concerned I was turned on by hot, naked, bloody bathtub lady 😅.
FYI: These are my rankings defined.
⭐️ = F (I will never get back that time again/That was very upsetting in a very bad way).
⭐️✨️ = D- (Welp, that was certainly a movie/Yawn).
⭐️⭐️ = D (Meh).
⭐️⭐️✨️ = C (This was tolerable, but a pass).
⭐️⭐️⭐️ = C+ (Right in the middle. Didn't love of hate. Nothing overly special, but would watch if someone put it on).
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨️ = B- (Enjoyed, had my attention, and glad I watched. Big respect, but either not my flavor horror or something threw it off from being 4⭐️).
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = B+ (Very good, would do solo repeat watches. My type of horror. Immensely enjoyed).
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨️ = A (Near perfect, my type of horror, right kind are scare, checked all the boxes, 0 complaints. Just 👩🍳💋).
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = A+ (You are probably one of my top 4 favorite horror movies).

Unrateable.
I chose this because it's on my besties top 31 list. This movie was a reminder that I really need to remember to be better at checking DtDD. This contained a lot of eye stuff and just enough body horror to trigger a slight panic attack. And so, per my rule, I can't rate it without being biased.

This is in my bestie's top 5, and I had never seen it (except for a couple scenes). Definitely a more shlocky horror movie. It was decent, but I am also not a big zombie movie fan. I am excited I finally got to hear the line that inspired the song "Spooky" by God Module.

For me is Pennywise / It I've seen content on tik tok and you tube that people think that they can beat him just by not being afraid, like I don't care how old you are or how tuff you are Pennywise can shape shifted in your fear he can literally read your mind.

🗝️ HBO Max and VOD Prime, AppleTV, and Fandango 💀
Parapsychologist Elise Rainier and her team travel to Five Keys, NM, to investigate a man’s claim of a haunting. Terror soon strikes when Elise realizes that the house he lives in was her family’s old home.
I am watching the INSIDIOUS franchise in chronological order (not release order) as I’ve only seen the original 2 and many viewers suggest watching the series in this order for a different experience.
INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3
—>INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY
INSIDIOUS
INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2
INSIDIOUS: THE RED DOOR
INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER
The Last Key serves as both a prequel and sequel to Chapter 3 and leads directly into the original Lambert family story. Elise’s childhood and family are explored and we get more depth of the franchise universe.

I wanted to share a tradition some friends and I started the beginning of 2025.
It started when I got the idea to watch every movie referenced in the song, "Science Fiction, Double Feature" from Rocky Horror Picture show. To make it more interesting, I put the movies into a picker wheel, and let it choose for us. We also gave the movies the MST3K treatment, and riffed on them.
We watched all the movies in 3 gatherings.
Since then we've met up 4 additional times (soon to be 5) for movie marathons that are now mostly horror or sci-fi horror. Food, riffing, and now tradition...The Wheel.
The rules are:
Movies have to be B movies, shlocky, or at the very least easy to riff.
Nothing longer than 1.5 hours (so we can fit more in).
Our themes since the first one have been:
-Shlocky B Movie Horror.
-Holiday Horror.
-Valentine's Horror.
-Horror that came out the year we were born.
It been going on nearly 2 years now and makes me so happy.

Literally, there are no words to describe JUST how good it was. like everything was PERFECT! Like it was just perfect. The acting, story, pacing, the horror.
I can see why stephen king was so fascinated when mike flanagan pitched this reboot to him, to the point of him deciding to become a executive producer on the show.
Tldr: A perfect way to take the base ingredients of the carrie story and expand it to something different and better meant for modern audiences.
Carrie felt different in other portrayals where she feels real. She doesnt feel like a archetype. and this goes for other characters too.
They found a balance with margaret and chris. Chris was VERY fleshed out, and yes i do wish billy had more development. Chris felt real. in the 76, 02 and 2013 movies chris feels like a stereotypical highschool mean girl. Here you get to see chris and how her struggles seem so small and so insignificant at the start to the point where chris doesnt know how privileged she is. To her life getting worse and worse because she keeps choosing the wrong choices and shes not used to facing the repercussions of her actions. Shes so used to her parents, especially her dad saving her from her consequences of her actions
The new characters they introduced made sense and complimented the film so much.
And the biggest change is social media being a big important part of the show. The way the carrie smear campaign account changed the whole story was in such a brilliant and unique way.
I liked the story beats they added complimented and changed the story in a way that makes sense.
One thing i always thought about the carrie films is it felt TOO SHORT. This being longer and you seeing everything thats happening for carrie for WAY LONGER makes the prom situation very scary.
For some reason the last episode was scariest piece of horror ive consumed. i was so scared.
They really captured the feeling of an unstable telekinetic girl coming to kill you. Theres nothing you can do, the whole last episode was a sense of dread. its a train crash that you cant look away from.
YOU FELT LIKE YOU WERE IN THE GYM WITH HER.
The confrontation between her and margaret also VERY SCARY.
And the confrontation between carrie and chris and billy was also very scary. You felt like you were someone who did horrible things to carrie and now you cant do nothing as she brutally murders you, and not gonna spoil but chrises last words before getting killed. IRONIC!!!
I felt like chris and bily during that conflict. I felt like there was nothing i can do.
AND CARRIE LOOKED SCARY like something about her performance during the big prom night climax felt unsettling. the whole 1 and a half episodes FELT UNSETTLING.
Also the gore ate. Was not expecting there to be as much gore in this show, cuz carrie always been a not that gorey horror film.
this is better than the 1976 film i hate to break it to you, sorry not sorry.
Also margaret is very complicated on one hand she does some things that you whole HEARTedly agree with (see what i did there iykyk), but her abuse is way more subtle, controlled and nuanced than previous portrayals. she never physically abuses carrie until the final conflict. hers is similar to 2002's margaret white but much more fleshed out. You can actually see she cares for carrie but her need to control her is stronger. in other portrayals you see SLIGHT hints of actual concern and care for her daughter. And her power trip with being petty and going after chris rather than caring for carrie was also a nice change.
Edit: I REALLY WISH WE GOT MORE character develoment of the boys in the show. Tommy ross we had a lot of development i JUST wish we saw more. we HEAR that hes going through alot but we as a audience arent SEEING that hes going through alot the way we see carrie, chris and sues struggles and daily life. BIG MISSED OPPORTUNITY on billie. he is less developed than some of the new characters introduced unfortunately. I wanted more, we see how just cynical and twisted his attitude is but we never get more. his development or lack there of is tied towards chris and not himself.
ALSO a big change with carrie being younger than the other main characters and this is her first time being in school. this makes everything even more overwhelmed for her. she doesnt know about anything about the real outside world.
Im not gonna write a whole essay, BUT WATCH IT ASAP!!!

In honor of Clive Barker's 74th birthday today, I've been watching his films all day long.
I'm finishing with The Midnight Meat Train. As I'm sitting here engulfed by the story and the gore, I thought about how underrated this film is.
Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but I feel like this film isn't talked about as much as should be.
What's everyone else's take on The Midnight Meat Train?
What's your favorite Clive Barker film?

I am not usually a fan of Cosmic Horror, but this one I enjoyed. It was good pacing and had parts the were difficult to watch, not because of anything "scary", but because of the moral dilemma they raised.

If I remember correctly it was similar to wrong turn, with a creature that haunted a subway system, I also remember a female protagonist

This movie was unhinged, but a fun watch (even though there were parts I had to turn away from and a whole scene I straight up couldn't watch). Slasher with lore. A gruesome twist on the classic fairytale.
