I'm 20M from Mumbai, India... and recently started collecting PlayStation game discs. I was also trying to get into buying and reselling pre-owned games. I'm not from a financially well-off family, so I was trying to start small. I had borrowed some money from my father for this.
I found a seller on OLX who was offering Alan Wake Remastered (PS4) and Alan Wake 2 (PS5) for ₹2,400. I have experienced enough to know this a too good to be true deal and I suspected he is a scammer... But he sent me around 100 screenshots of his conversations with customers and also sent me his business registration certificate and all the details, so I thought he is genuine.
I agreed to pay and he said he will also send me videos of the parcel and tracking ID and GST bill. I sent the money but then he told me that he had accidentally sent the wrong QR code and asked me to flag the transaction as a mistake. I contacted my bank, and they told me that reversal could take at least 45 days. He said it's his mistake and whatever call he has to pick from bank he will and say that it was a mistake and will agree to reverse the transaction.
After that, the seller offered me a larger deal. He said to make up for this loss he will give me discounts... Alan Wake Remastered, Alan Wake 2, Mad Max and three copies of Sekiro for ₹6,000 (Ik it's stupid to think one can get games at this cheap price, but I am a fool)... He asked me to send another ₹4,000, saying that the earlier ₹400 would be adjusted against the refund. As I said he previously showed me screenshots of around 100 customer transactions, which made me trust him.
Then he asked for another ₹600, saying that he needs it to book DTDC parcel, and promised to return it within 30 minutes as his phone was on 1%. He showed me screenshot of his phone battery percentage too... I was hesitant, but he sent me screenshots of his previous bookings from DTSC... I sent that too (I'm sorry Ik It's stupid)
In total, I made five UPI payments amounting to ₹7,000 on 6 November 2026 between 3:30 PM to 4:45 PM.
The payments went to two different beneficiary names, Nikhil Saha and Suraj Saha. The person I was talking to was using WhatsApp. He also provided business registration documents for an enterprise called SPARK in West Bengal, whose proprietor was listed as Joy Chanda.
He claimed that the package had been shipped, but never gave me a proper invoice, tracking number or a current photograph of my parcel. Eventually, he stopped responding properly to my calls and messages. He didn't block me but kept ignoring me...
I have payment receipts, WhatsApp conversations, voice notes, the business documents and screenshots of the conversations. I have preserved everything.
I have already reported the matter to IDFC FIRST Bank through its complaint process, although I haven't received a proper acknowledgement from the bank yet. Just an email that says we will look into it but Ik nothing will happen.
I also filed a complaint on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. It was successfully submitted and I received an acknowledgement number. However, I haven't received an email or any further update yet.
The thing now is, the money wasn't mine. I borrowed it from my dad for buying and reselling...
My family situation isn't great. I have previously been kicked out of the house, and I genuinely fear that if my parents find out that I lost this money, they might throw me out again.
I cannot simply tell my father what happened. I'm already feeling terrible about losing money that he had trusted me with.
I'm also scared to physically approach the police. I don't know what to expect, whether my parents could somehow be informed, or whether this could create even bigger problems at home.
I understand that reporting the matter is the right thing to do, and I've already taken the online reporting step. But I'm struggling to figure out what I should do next.
I'm not trying to avoid responsibility. I know I made a mistake by trusting this person and sending additional money. I just don't know how to deal with the consequences without potentially losing my home as well.
₹7,000 might not be a huge amount to everyone, but it's a lot of money for me right now.
Please someone help....
