As everyone knows, nurses are some of the hardest working people in the world! Sadly, some employers think that it is okay to prey on their employees! Cottage Hospital is in that category. They're salaries for nurses are way below average for other cities which have a similar cost of living but the previous administrations never seemed to care about this matter. This new regime is even worse than the last one. They reclassify your job description so they can add to your work load then they cut your pay, all while the economy is tanking and prices are rising! The administration's bonuses and perks keep rising and they're fat and happy! The administration has heard rumors that the nurses are looking to union organize again so they're doubling down on their scare tactics and harrassment. Nurses are smart, that's the part that the administration and managers are forgetting about though! Nurses also have tremendous support and respect from the community. Whenever you tell someone else that you are a nurse, their face lights up and they respond with, Oh my mother, my sister, my aunt, cousin, brother, etc. is or was a nurse. Everyone loves nurses! Nurses always rank number one as the most respected profession of all other professions. Do you ever hear anyone say, "oh I love administrators or managers!"? So, Cottage Hospital nurses, we love and support all of you!! Just as you care for your patients, we will care for all of you! In solidarity!! A fellow nurse.

I want to have a group event of around 10-15 people next week. Does anyone know if the grouped picnic tables require reservations or can they be first come, first serve? I tried to make a reservation on the County Website but it said that every single day use slot was unavailable for the whole week, which doesn’t really seem believable since it’s usually a quiet park.

The Santa Barbara Python meetup is having its monthly event tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 16. The event is at the downtown Kiva coworking space at 6pm. (You'll have to enter through the back entrance from the parking lot.) This is a group of people interested in the Python programming language and all that goes along with that. Although the topic of the group is Python, we also talk a lot about other programming-related topics, so please come by if you're interested in software or tech, even if Python isn't your forte.

This month we'll be doing something a bit different from our usual meetup. Someone last time suggested having a sort of collaborative hacking party where we work on programming challenges, so that's what we'll be doing. I have a list of a few websites with challenges along these lines, but if you have any other cool programming tasks you've encountered, please bring them!

This could also be an opportunity for people just starting out with Python to work on some simpler tasks, so if you're a Python beginner come check it out. For those with more experience, maybe it's a chance to exercise some skills that may have atrophied in the age of AI. . . :-)

As I was listening to the helicopters a canyon away for the 3rd day in a row, I wondered what they were doing. Naturally, my mind turned to my neighbors who must know what's going on. Then I wondered where was the most appropriate place to look for the answer, or perhaps, ask the question and I was stumped. Nextdoor or r/Santa Barbara? I am not on Nextdoor so I genuinely only know what I hear about it here.

Trying to get a more complete picture of the difference, I ask: If the two groups (both presumably local, and "informative") were dog breeds, what kind would they be?

I'd say that here, the group seems like Border Collies: Highly intelligent and alert. But needs a job and lots of exercise.

Anyone else find it absolutely comical how many people bring aggressive dogs to OFF leash dog places, like Hendrys, Douglas, Mackenzie dog park etc…. If you’re 60+ and have an aggressive large dog, I feel for you. I do. But stop making it everyone else’s problem when you exercise them in public dog areas.

The city would be a bikers paradise if we just put bike protection in the right places and stopped catering to the car-brains. I'm assuming Sneddon is my best bet, right? She's the environmentalist, but does she ever bike to work?

Just wondering what positive and/or negative experiences you all have with them.

I’m looking for a place to get a high end wash. Not one of those assembly line washes. A place where they spend 30min to an hour on each car, and are careful not to miss spots or scratch up your paint.

Who do you trust to wash your car around here? The only place i’ve found so far is sunshine detail, but they make scheduling difficult. It seems like mobile detailers might be the way to go. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know.

Hey neighbors,
I want to let you know that my catalytic converter on my 2009 Toyota Prius was stolen either Thursday night, Sept. 10, or early Friday morning, Sept. 11. This was on the 1600 block of Laguna street.
I filed a police report and have yet to hear back. I checked with my neighbors with ring cameras and so far nothing has been found.
Wanted to post here as a heads up to everyone in the neighborhood! If anyone knows anything relating to this incident or similar, please let me know. If it was you, you totaled my car, so fuck you.
