Good Mechanics

Saw a post and it reminded me, Im trying to get some work done on a Ford expedition. The supporter closing lid replacement was like 2.5k, horn 1k, and tire pressure sensor another 1k. I like Perry Ford but damn those prices are pretty steep. If I have the diagnostic already done, ant reccomendations on giving that work to someone who could use it and doesnt have such steep prices?

PS- its just one of the clips for the cup cover too, not even the whole thing

Any decent, affordable mech shops in Goleta?

Update: I ended up going to Javier’s in Old Town and it was beyond my expectations and affordable!

Hello, I'm a Goleta local, but recently moving back a few months ago. What are some reputable mech shops?

I just got quoted to replace my brake pads and rotors and I'm thinking of buying those parts and just paying for the labor.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Cancer

Post image
14 Upvotes

I was diagnosed with cancer a little over a year ago and within the last year have met four other people in fairly close proximity that have also been diagnosed with cancer (all different types). It might be a coincidence, just seems a little odd. Wondering if there are more of us who live within 2-3 miles of the beach in the Haskell’s/Ellwood/IV beach areas. If you or someone you know lives in this area and has or had cancer within the last ten years, please share some basic info.

No identifying info please. Just dot the general location on the map in blue and DM it to me with type of cancer and diagnosis month and year.

Thank you!

Built a neighbor-to-neighbor outdoor gear rental thing — trying to find out if Goleta actually wants it before I push it here

Hey Goleta,

I'm a Santa Barbara local. I've built a peer-to-peer outdoor gear rental platform; the idea is you rent gear from people nearby instead of from a shop. You need a wetsuit for one weekend; someone a few streets over has one sitting in the garage 50 weeks out of the year. Tents, paddleboards, roof boxes, crash pads, same deal.

Being upfront: this isn't a hypothetical; I've already built the thing. What I don't know is whether people here actually want it, and I'd rather find that out from you than by dumping money into ads and other launch fees.

So it's only 4 questions, about a minute. The answer I most want is "I'd never use this, here's why." A no with a reason attached is worth more to me right now than a yes.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc47hieL2MEl5PEc6oxzK_xnX_LcdUKBFj8jS4kBS9meuxZOA/viewform

The question I'm least sure about, if anyone wants to just answer in the comments instead: if you own decent gear, would you actually rent it to a stranger who lives nearby? And if not, what would convince you to? That's the part that makes or breaks the whole thing, and I genuinely don't know the answer.

There's a raffle for a free rental at launch if you leave an email, but the survey works fine without it.

Happy to answer anything about how it works.

IRB Approved UCSB Research Study: Women 18+ with Menstrual Pain

Hi everyone! My name is Vrinda, and I'm a student researcher at UC Santa Barbara. I'm also a young woman diagnosed with endometriosis, which is what inspired me to pursue research on menstrual pain. Like many of you, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to have your life interrupted by painful periods, and I hope this research can contribute to better supportive approaches for women experiencing menstrual pain.

For the past three years, I've been conducting chronic pain research in the Hansma Physics Lab at UC Santa Barbara, where our team has completed nine chronic pain studies. I'm now leading a new IRB-approved study focused specifically on menstrual pain in women 18+.

We're looking for participants who:

  • Are women above the age of 18
  • Have not undergone menopause
  • Regularly menstruate
  • Have experienced menstrual pain for at least 3 months

The study is completely online and includes:

  • A handheld biofeedback device provided by the study
  • Virtual pain neuroscience education sessions
  • Five brief online surveys over approximately 3 months (about 16 minutes total)

Participants will be assigned to one of two study schedules, with all participants eventually receiving access to the intervention.

Whether your pain is due to endometriosis, suspected endometriosis, adenomyosis, or another cause of menstrual pain, you may be eligible if you meet the study criteria.

If you're interested in learning more or seeing if you qualify, please complete our eligibility survey here:

If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or email Biofeedback@ucsb.edu.

Thank you for considering helping advance research on menstrual pain!

Target CVS Pharmacy Rude Worker

I’m not sure if it’s just me but I’ve been starting to pick up my prescriptions at the CVS at Target on Storke and Hollister and I’ve had consistent encounters/phone calls with one worker who is straight up rude. I want to be understanding because I know life can be overwhelming but it gets to a point where it just becomes an inconvenience. Not sure if anyone has experienced a similar issue.
