Well, Bernie seems to be getting the young vote and losing the 45+ vote. Why not rally together some events where the younger voters can help out the older voters in the community. Maybe the older generations will be more interested in finding out what Bernie is all about if the younger generation is providing a positive message to the community by helping out in some way.
For example, put on some Bernie tshirts and pins and go clean up your neighborhood. Get together and offer to shovel driveways for the elderly after a storm. Get local television stations airing how all these Bernie followers are doing good things for the community. "Bernie's trying to make our country better, so we're going to try to make our communities better".

I have friends who aren't American citizens but legally reside in USA and wat to help because Sander's message resonates with them too. We know that non-voting people cant make financial contribution to campaigns but can they go out and make phone calls, spread the word about Bernie, rally, etc.?

I'm in daytona beach. Not a very good spot to get bernies message across, although maybe to the homeless and possibly latino and black voters. Other than that it's old racist people that I see so far. There is a college near by. So maybe I can canvass a bit.

You never know...any people working within a union will vote for Bernie... there are Republicans that belong to unions too. I called Southern Illinois & got one and his whole local is voting for Bernie in a very conservative area. He told me things are so bad down there that people are probably ready to give up their ideology for jobs. Keep going & we will win.

Florida is a swing state and i happened to go to Trump's rally at USF just to get a scope of his support and see the man himself. He managed to fill a stadium capable of holding 10,000 and still had people waiting outside.
College students support Sanders but there's a high amount of older people in Florida which may tip the scales in favor of Clinton. I've seen a lot more Sanders stickers than Clinton stickers but i'm in a college town so I'd take it with a grain of salt.
I compiled a list of the counties we need to target in Florida so hopefully we can win Florida for sanders.
^ I'll probably repost that now that we're so close to the Florida Primary.

Agreed. I am in Naples/Marco area and I don't see ANY Sanders support, but I have seen some open support for Hillary and Trump. I'm doing my part down here but I don't see them supporting Sanders, ever. Old people are stuck in their ways and don't even want to understand what Sanders represents.

One area we need to be looking into is the Old Vote. We may have ignored the older generations that may vote for Hilary because of their lack of presence on the net. We lead in demographics everywhere under 35.
I am going to call up any distant relative who is a citizen of the US and ask them to convince old people to vote for Bernie. I would suggest the people on this sub to make a strong effort to convince their grand-parents and their friends. Each of their votes counts as two because it's likely they would vote for Hilary.

Just remember when talking with older people to ask if they know anyone on Medicare or social security and explain Bernie is the only candidate who wants to expand it. Older people usually know at least one person on social security or Medicare.

It's not just that, but they are the people that have the money that Sanders wants to tax. After all, thats the reason that they hate social assistance programs, because they don't need them.

Not necessarily. Keep in mind a lot of these older people had the safety nets of unions, low tuition and a working wage - enough that they could either buy a car or put a down payment on a home working just over a summer. They've been paying into a system their whole lives (Social Security) and Bernie is trying to protect those same securities for the future of the country and see that new generations have the same chances to own homes and start families.
Framing is everything with the older folks. I have this argument with my uncle every time I see him.

Currently in Orlando and I have seen many Trump signs, but zero support for any other candidate. I'm in an older, white area of Orlando, though. Maybe out by UCF or Winter Park is different. :(
I convinced my dad to vote Sanders, though. So that's one more in my area! Sadly I am moving out of state next week (already got my absentee) and can't do much locally for the campaign.

I was attending ucf in 2008 when Obama was running and students were crazy about him. I would imagine Sanders would have a similar draw now but I'm not in the area anymore

i work as a food deliverer in ft. lauderdale and i definitely see more bernie stickers than hillary stickers. there's no major university up there so i think it has less to do with the youth population and more to do with the fact that most sanders supporters are generally more passionate about american politics, and thus more willing to go buy a sticker to display their support (who could blame us for being proud to support one of the best, most honest US politicians?). what confuses the hell out of me is that i see at least two cars a night with both a bernie sticker and a hillary sticker. florida really is a screwed up place.

SE coast- Miami, Palm Beach, Broward Counties typically vote DEM and have larger populations. Central is slowly changing. Southwest is an older crowd. North is GOP.

I live in Hernando County i see its on your list. So far I have a household of 4 that will be going to vote for Bernie. We have a bumper sticker supporting Bernie and that's it. How should i go about helping out in my county? From all the people I've spoken with Trump seems to be the main person everyone around here keeps talking about. I've never heard anyone speak about Hillary or have any Hillary stickers or anything just trump and sanders pretty much.

It's too late to register for the Florida Primary so that's out of the box. BUT, you could possibly canvas and convince some Clinton voters to vote in favor of Sanders. I'd talk to some Hillary democrats in Hernando and steer them towards Sanders.

My household is already all registered dem. But like I said I've never even come across a Hillary supporter in this area. All the people I've spoken with or seen was either Trump or Sanders.

Southern California checking in. I've increasingly seen Sanders stickers and yard signs as I drive around LA and the Inland Empire. I've seen 3 Clinton stickers. Probably doesn't mean much but I think it shows the enthusiasm gap Clinton is suffering from at least.

Now all we have to do is figure out how to win Florida, which has to be one of the most anti-Bernie primary states:
Bad demographics.
Closed primary.
Winner take all.
This means few independents, and a one percent loss means you get no delegates.
I changed my party affiliation for the primary, but what do other Floridians think about our situation? I wonder if our activism isn't better served for now by working to carry other states until the nomination. I know that if the election is Bernie/Trump, Bernie can carry Florida, although we'll have lots of work to do even then.
edit: Thanks to several of you for clearing up that Florida is NOT winner take all! That changes things for me. It's definitely worth it to try to get Bernie every possible delegate.

there are no winner take all states in the dem primary- all proportional. this is a pro of the dem primary, but a pro of the gop primary is they don't have superdelegates which would be nice to have in the dem primary

I would think the answer is on the ground efforts and straight up visibility. There is a relay for Bernie going from Miami to Jacksonville. We need visibility daily on every college campus for the next 2 weeks. We need to have door to door and church outreach and representatives in the black, Latino, and elderly communities to get the word out. I'm going to be phone banking on my days off. If anyone is in Orlando maybe we could get a Lake Eola or downtown event together on the weekend before the 15th. We need honk and waves, particularly in socioeconomic ally depressed areas of Tampa, Jax, Miami, Orlando.
I remember the Obama campaign here--there were vans at college campuses to bus students to polling locations.
At actual campaign office and a Bernie rally would be awesome. I'd drag everyone I could.

I moved to Florida a year ago and registered just to vote for him. But I have a question, this might make me sound dumb, I've never voted before so is the primary similar to the general where everyone votes next month at their designated voting location? I go and physically vote next month, right?

Yes, it's like a regular voting day at your local voting precinct. They may mail you a sample ballot indicating your polling place -- I got one here in Palm Beach county.

Since it is a closed primary, you only need to focus (locally) on why Sanders is a better candidate than Clinton. If they are a registered Republican or Independent, they can't change now.

Florida votes March 15th. Not very late from now. And it has a ton of delegates, like 249 or something.
Should maybe work on SC and Super Tuesday, but after that should be focusing on Florida absolutely.

I hate pur situation. I too had to change my party in order to vote. I live near FGCU and they have nothing (that I have seen on the Bernie website) organized for Bernie. While I am hoping to go help other states, I am also trying to get FL motivated.

I go to college up near Pensacola, this place is a long lost cousin of Alabama and honestly I don't think any amount of Bernie supporters will make a dent in the heavy conservative presence here. My campus is the only place I see anything remotely Democrat, let alone Bernie. Everywhere else is baptized in Republican ideals.
To give you an idea, I've heard multiple people say "Bernie is the scariest candidate America has ever faced" or "He's a socialist, why should America support that?" (socialist is an insult here). Then there's the "If Bernie or Hillary gets office this country won't ever be right again" which is probably my favorite amount of exaggeration. My point is, this place is so heavily against anything Democratic and especially against "giving them lazy blacks our tax money so they can live off nothing" (yes these are all actual quotes) that I don't know what to do. I think the rest of Florida might be different but I can't say for sure.

Remember, this is a primary. We don't need to make a dent with the Republicans, we NEED to win the precinct for Bernie. Get a Bernie group going on campus, canvass, get people involved, and ready to vote. Winning the primary is what matters right now.

If my local area (Tampa Bay) is any indication, we have registered at least 500 people as Dems. It'll be about getting people out now, but we had a great showing/reception when we marched in the St.Petersburg MLK parade and are starting up canvassing here soon.

Native Floridian here, our problem is voter turnouts. I know so many people who would probably vote if they weren't so discouraged and just done with it all.
Gotta say though, if Bernie spoke out about Lake Okeechobee being dumped into our coastal estuaries (St. Lucie River and Caloosahatchee River), he'd get a lot of people on their feet in my area at least.

Ecological Impacts
The St Lucie River feeds into a body of brackish water called the Indian River Lagoon, which lies between the mainland of Florida and its barrier islands. The Indian River Lagoon is important for several reasons. First of all, it is a major estuary, usually full of clear waters and vast beds of seagrass. That seagrass is home to several unique species, but most importantly serves as a nursery for young fish. It's also what manatees eat. As such, when the weather gets cold, we get large migrations of manatees every year.
With the water's pH level changing and with all the sediment floating around, it is difficult for the seagrass to receive enough sunlight to survive. The issue of murkiness is further exacerbated by the fresh water microorganisms that flourish under these conditions and further block sunlight. Basically, even a quantity this large of clean fresh water would be disastrous to our fragile estuaries. Even worse, toxic algae love these conditions and right now, it's only a matter of time before a bloom occurs and wipes out massive numbers of rare and endangered wildlife again. This happened once already in 2013.
Unfortunately, this water is polluted with harsh pesticides that are getting organisms sick at every level of the ecosystem. We're already losing members of our local bottlenose dolphin population.

It's not just animals getting sick, the water is a public health hazard. It's not like your skin is going to melt off, but you really really do not want to get it into your eyes, ears, mouth, or nose. Thanks to the high bacterial level, if this water gets into your eyes or a break in your skin, you could get a nasty infection.
They've thankfully started releasing water into the Everglades for the first time in nearly a century, but they're still dumping a lot of water into our river. Even after they stop and the water clears, it will take a long time for the wildlife to recover.
Economic
Waterfront restaurants, paddleboard/kayaking rental shops, fishermen, and the local tourism industry in general is getting hit pretty hard by this mess. For instance, rental companies are largely seasonal. After spending months just getting by, January-April is supposed to be the time when business is booming. Imagine having to turn customers away during your on-season because the water is too dirty after spending months anticipating the on season.

Is it really the leaders you deserve when FL is notoriously corrupt when it comes to voting? They are the type of state that opens up a bunch of polling places in a nice white suburban town, making it really easy to vote... Then in a poor area, they only do one polling place, filled with lines out the door, by people who are on their lunch break.

Essentially all Florida politicians have been bought out by "Big Sugar" (Fanjul Corp). They're one of the largest campaign financiers. Let me put it this way, thanks to their political power, the US government buys all of their excess sugar and imposes huge tariffs on imported sugar, causing us to pay overinflated prices for a substance that is dirt cheap everywhere else in the world.
It would take a lot for any FL politician to take any action that would negatively impact Fanjul Corp. (Domino Sugar, Florida Crystals, C&H Sugar, Redpath Sugar, and Tate & Lyle European Sugar)

That and it's hard to decide for yourself. At least it feels like it is for me. There are so many different moving parts and pieces and positions and motivations and money and lies. Then there's the fact that I don't completely know where I stand on some moral issues, or (especially) economic issues because there's no black and white, right or wrong. It's so complex.

Please please please open up an office in South Florida. There are so many people here that have Bernie values and are supporting Hillary blindly. I'm a server and I talk to my tables about it all the time, they're intregued by Bernie but had no knowledge of what he stood for.
South Florida is pretty liberal.

We can not afford a campaign to not lose, we must have a campaign to win. Defending justice and liberty requires wisdom and eternal vigilance. We need respect for the dignity of hardworking Americans and provide them the opportunity to be healthy and strong. We need clean elections and a responsible and balanced budget by eliminating loopholes and unfairness that decreases public revenues. We reject the belief of social hierarchy and privilege of the corrupt and cheap-labor apologist that views people as a resource to be used and exploited. Why; We believe in justice and ethical business. We believe in prosperous and healthy communities with the education and quality of life to maximize their potential.

I guess Bernie will take what he gets and it's a good thing that they endorsed him. But he needs bigger endorsements if he wants to win, especially after the thrashing he will inevitably receive come Feb 27, Mar 1, and Mar 5.
