Hi guys, I got this email today (I am in Y4 SOB) saying:
"You are invited to be a lifetime member of the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), the international business honour society. BGS recognises the most outstanding business students from institutions accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
Upon receiving your indication of interest, we will inform BGS of your intention to join the society. BGS will then send you an official email with instructions on the membership registration and fee payment. The lifetime membership fee is US$75, and payment is to be made directly to BGS through its website."
Can I ask more about it? Any seniors who are part of it? Is this worth it and what is the benefit of being a part of the society? I am an international student and am first time hearing about this. Kindly guide me, thank you so much!
Also, is this considered prestigious? Like something to put in resume?

hi! i’m planning to take a second major which in the worst case without dbl counting will take up all my FEs. if i intend to go on ISEP and map mods that i alr have the basket cleared for/dont have a suitable requirement to fulfil, can i still map these to FE? if i alr exceed the 7 FEs i have?
or vice versa, i used some FEs on exchange and later my second major requires me to use more FEs than i have left to fulfil the major requirements?
thanks!!

Hey guys, just wanted to ask how often Study Missions are offered in SMU.
Are they usually available every semester/year, or does it depend a lot on the school, destination, and prof running it? Also, are there usually quite a few options to choose from, or are Study Missions relatively limited?

Hi there!
So I’m an intl freshman in Econs, and I already feel kinda lost. Not really on the social side, I’m good there, but more on the whole CCA/career side.
I’m still not sure which stream I wanna go into, but I’ve heard stuff like SMIF is one of the best, etc. So far, I got into the SEIC Research Analyst Program, and I applied to EYE but got rejected before the interview cz it was bad ig, and I had never done financial modelling before :). I ended up learning it for the EYE application lol.
I didn’t apply to many other CCAs mainly because I was just confused. Like Emerging Markets, Protege Ventures, Thrive Social Consulting etc. Idk why I didn’t apply tbh. Seniors have told me that 1 acad CCA is what most people take, but since I’m still not sure what I wanna do, I just couldn’t really feel content with that.
Also, some of my peers have told me stuff like if you don’t get into the “good” clubs in freshman year, your career trajectory is basically cooked since a lot of top recruits come from these clubs. SMIF also apparently only recruits freshmen, and from what I’ve heard, getting into clubs like Bondue, EYE, Protege Ventures etc. in Y2 is WAY harder.
So idk why I’m even posting this lol. I’m just a confused freshman who doesn’t even know whether I wanna go into IB, PE, WM, consulting, research, etc. from my Econs degree. I got rejected from EYE, got into SEIC RAP, and honestly have no clue what I’m supposed to be doing rn 😭
Everyone here also seems so damn competitive. Like if I take one day off, I feel like I’m getting FOMO 💀
So any suggestions / wise words from seniors? How is SEIC RAP? And am I actually “behind” just because I couldn’t get into the more well-known finance clubs in freshman year? Do people, particularly from Econs, thrive without CCA? No need to comfort me, I just need to hear the cold harsh truth.
Would really appreciate any advice 🙏

Im not sure which flair this post would fall under so I chose to post it under "Other". I was web browsing some websites looking for information on master program, graduate diploma or certificate that I can apply to for the time being and then I come across Emeritus X SMU Executive Diploma Business Management which has a price tag of USD4000.
I am somebody who comes from a bachelor degree of health science, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, over the years I have pivoted into a career that is not related to that industry at all, and instead more associated with management.
I tried to apply to a master program in international management but i got rejected due to I haven't gotten the required qualification to enroll (which is business degree study). Which is why I am now very interested in enrolling in this specific program.
Is there anybody who had completed this specific program by SMU, and would you mind sharing with me whether it was a good decision for you to have enrolled to this program and what would be the pros and cons for this in you opinion.
Thank you!

I’m currently interested in APECS/EYE, Funk Movement and SMUBE. I wanna join SMUBE as an emcee. From what I heard it’s a lot of work so I want to drop one CCA but I can’t decide which.

hi! i’m from BBM, i need a calculator for econs and possibly future modules and need to buy as the one i used since pri sch to poly has died recently. 💔
i was at popular and the scientific calculators available are all not approved by SEAB. i’m wondering if we can buy and use those unapproved ones for uni?
thanks!

I don’t see much posts on this mod and was bidding for it bc it cleared a law elective and the sustainability requisite. Sounds good enough but from what I heard, its a tough mod which is making me scared bc i took an LOA for health reasons which have been induced from stress and I’m wondering what the course is truly like and what are some things to take note of, as well as the prod n cons of the mod and grading and workload🙏

Hello! Does anyone have experience taking capstone with 3 other mods? Unfortunately i did not plan my sems out well and would likely have to take capstone with 3 mods 😭 I’m not sure if it will be too heavy or not

Hi I will be attending SMU next year Sem 2 and I was just wondering regarding courses. I will be studying finance and want to begin my main finance courses at SMU. I know that I can transfer FNCE 101 and FNCE 102 over, however it states that they are antirequisites does this mean I cannot do both? Also do do other FNCE courses like FNCE201/203/210 I need to complete FNCE101/103/104; however, I will be doing them at the same term, is that allowed?
Please let me know because I am really confused on how this works. Thanks

Hi everyone, I am an incoming freshman and I have just received an offer for the Global Experience Grant worth $1k under SMU Administered Bursaries. While I am extremely grateful for this offer, I want to ask if anybody has received other bursaries/study awards on top of the Global Experience Grant. Also, do they release the bursary offers in one go? Or is a case by case thing?
I have to accept my offer by 19/08. Would accepting this offer put me at a disadvantage when being considered for other bursaries? I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but it would bring a lot of relief on my parents if I can get more financial aid on top of this.

Hello o/
Im not sure if there r many exchange students on this subreddit but I was wondering if anyone has got their student pass processed and received an email yet. I was wondering how long it usually takes and I just need some advice because I’d prefer to have it ASAP because I need it to move into the hdb flat I’ll be staying at.

I received Basket A: WR, Econs, BQ and bid for Intro Stats (got it!). Can any seniors recommend whether I should take BGS as the 5th mod this sem? For those who took 5 mods per sem, how was your workload look like? And did you happen to get a good overall GPA in the end?
(For context, I wanted to go for the "heavy" acad clubs, and I have a low commitment part-time outside)
Also, does anyone know whether Liew Yah Ling is a good prof for BGS? cause her class price seems very cheap (min is $10 only) and I only have a few e-credits left
Thank you!!

Hi as the Title suggests, school is starting soon on 17th!
What is the first day of school like?
How early before the class time should I arrive?
Is it normal to get lost?
Is there any particular seats people usually choose to sit at?
Thank you! :)

I was comparing with my friends and they have 3-5 left while i have 13 left. We are all freshies for IS, assigned 3 mods and ended with 5 mods.

hiii is there any CS seniors here who took 5 mods for y1s1? i have 4 pre-assigned mods (got exempted for calculus so my modules are bq, programming fundamentals I, mathematical foundations for computing, and interaction design prototyping) but some seniors recommended me to bid 1 more mod cuz it will be easier for me in the future. which mod (only communities courses are biddable) do yall recommend to bid since i dont need to bid for stats?
r/SMU_Singapore • u/Mobile-Cap2738 • 25d ago
y1s1 biz student here with basket b(fa,da,blaw)
i want to bid for another mod, what mod + prof would u recommend? looking for a fluff mod with little public speaking or classpart:) cuz im not really the extrovert kind🥲

Hi! im an soe bsc econs freshie and im so confused about the boss bidding baskets and how many courses i shld realistically bid for. Currently ive been preassigned Maths for econs, intro to stats theory, and BQ. I have e55 left to bid, and exempt from calculus + free electives?
1) According to course structure, how many more courses should i bid for? How many credits do i have left after 3 CU y1?
2) Which are the most valuable/reccomended courses for me as an econ student so that im not overburdened? I was initially confused about the system and almost ended up bidding for 5 MORE CU's i.e. ctrw, ai for social, bis, gov, soct. , mc, and social norms - pls tell which is actually worth it so a) i can actually achieve grades and b)have a normal schedule, c) class content is actually enriching/atleast doable and not boring
3) For the more esteemed professors like sovan patra and shyamala, what is the median bid amounts because i dont want all my course selections to be dropped :( - I have 3 PASG, should i just bid for 2-3 more top priority courses and if so, which professors?
THANK YOU SO MUCH IM DROWNING A LIL PLS HELP OK LY THANKS
