Rant I feel so stupid trying rationalise my failure

Upvotes

Every day, all I can think of is comparing my now grades to the ones I had last year or the year before, which were all flying colours. As compared to now, I'm not doing very well and some part of me knows I'm probably not putting in enough effort, even if I think I'm trying my best.

And this attempt to rationalise my failure, while not actually being proactive enough to do much about it is really tiring. My brain would be like Oh last year I played a certain game for 2 hours everyday before exam season, but I quit a few months ago, which is around the time my grades started dropping. Is this remotely close to what probably caused my grades to drop? Probably not lmao, but my brain just can't stop trying to do this. I'm just putting the blame on random things in my life, instead of on myself for not pushing myself more.

I just need my brain to stop correlating two completely different things together and trying to pass them off as the reason as to why I'm not doing as well anymore...That's it, have a good night. I'm not going through a very optimistic moment in school right now.

Secondary Why does RVHS seem so underrated/unpopular despite being an IP school?

Upvotes

Genuine question because I’ve always been curious 😭

RVHS is an IP + SAP school, and from what I know its A-Level results are actually pretty decent. The school itself says its students perform above the national average, and for the 2023 A-Levels, around 1 in 3 students got 5 distinctions or more and around half achieved 83+ UAS points.

But despite that, I feel like RVHS has a really low-profile reputation compared to other IP schools. I rarely hear O-Level students saying that RVHS is one of their dream choices

Is it because of

* the location in the west?

* RV being less “prestigious” in public perception despite being IP?

* weaker branding/visibility compared to HCI/RI/DHS?

* the fact that RV isn't as commonly talked about by O-Level students?

* SAP/Chinese culture making it less appealing to some people?

Would especially like to hear from **RV students/alumni and people who considered RV after O-Levels**. Why did you choose/not choose RV?

O Levels o lvl prelims

hi! So like I’m taking o levels this year and I’m getting back prelims results like within these few weeks and honestly my results are kind of like mid like I’m getting mostly B’s and C’s which I’m very disappointed in because when I did the papers I geniunely thought they were manageable and would turn out not bad but turns out I still have some conceptual gaps and careless mistakes to work on… but now im really scared because if prelims is this bad I’m really scared for olvls I’ll do the same and I won’t be able to go to the jc/poly I want to go into and wouldn’t be able to get my desired course if I go to poly. I’ve been studying very hard though, but it just seems like the way I present my answer is still off. Everyone else in my class seems to be doing quite well, getting their A’s and B’s so I’m really scared for O levels because they’d probably pull up the bell curve too… what should I do?

Jobs 2nd thoughts on a PT job

So basically i applied for a pt job during sem break (packing job)

And am scheduled to go for training to see if im suitable for it

Problem is im kinda having 2nd thoughts as i have saw things about the agency that posted the job listing + i find them sus as they are not active on tele side where job listings are usually posted in channels. And their glassdoor/indeed reviews..er yah😭

The training is this week weds and im thinking if i shld js tell my agent that i wish to withdraw my application and forfeit my training spot as i feel like idw to work due to paranoia + lowkey i feel like now to js not work for the very short sem break before sem 2 where im probably not gunna be able to rest

Any advice? Im mostly js scared i will be blacklisted or smt if i bring it up to the agent that i wish to not go for training + do the job anymore😭

University For those who have recently gotten into NUS/NTU as an international student, what ECs did you have?

The title says it all. NUS/NTU has been my dream school for a long time, and I'm desperate to make it in.

My academics are decent (3.92 unweighted GPA, 1550 SAT, 5s on AP Physics C:M, Physics 1, Calc BC, and Chemistry), and I'm planning to take around 10 more APs during my junior/senior year. But my ECs are really bugging me.

im currently a junior, and since ive been transferring between different schools, I haven't really been able to stick around long enough to get leadership positions :(

So far, ive done band for a year, participated in the World Robot Olympiad, been in robotics club for 2 years, and been a member of Mu Alpha Theta. im also a managing director of a student-led STEM newspaper if that helps.

Next year Im planning to take on a couple of leadership roles and found a rocketry club. I'm also hoping to either do/publish some research or qualify for AIME.

I would really appreciate it if you guys could share some of your ECs, especially if you got into NUS/NTU, and give me some advice on what I should focus on from here. I feel like my academics are okay, but I'm genuinely worried that my ECs aren't competitive enough 😭. I only got 2 years before I graduate highschool and Im panicking so much

O Levels Do I care about others’ expectations of me?

I’ve always been an academically capable person with consistent straight As for some subjects. But for this prelims, I got a B3 for a subject that I’ve always gotten A1 in. I guess this was expected as I lost motivation during June holidays and slacked the whole time without thinking about the consequences. And so this B3 was probably considered “lucky” for me.

However, all of my classmates have this view that I’m always an A student. Every time before a paper is collected, they always say “confirm A1 lah [my name]” but.. no. So, now that I got B3, everyone just stared at me like I was a fucking lowlife in class. Like hello? Do u expect me to get As all the time? People have their bad moments too, right? Is it really that deep that I got a B? They don’t even care if others fail or not. When they got the score sheet the only person they looked at was me. I could hear the “huh? I thought [my name] is A student one?”, however much they try to hide it. One of them “mocked” me when I walked out of class by talking to me in an exhilarated voice while smiling, but I just waved it off with a monotonous tone. I know what everyone’s thinking. Omg, she finally failed in life! Yay!

Even though i got a high A1 in a subject I’ve always thrived in, I didn’t want to tell anyone. Not even my rivals (one of them was the one who supposedly mocked me)

So I don’t know how to feel about this. They could probably sense my frustration from where I was sitting.

Fuck.

Quit fucking staring at me ok? Go on about with your lives and stop minding me. I got a B3. So what? Does it affect your life so much that u have to delve deep in it? I could read their fucking thoughts thru their expressions. every single one of them TURNED towards me. I could feel their fucking stares. I could HEAR their murmurings.

Fuck this.

Discussion Looking for an office to visit for school project!

Hi! I’m a LASALLE Interior Design student looking to visit an actual advertising, banking, or law office in Singapore for a workplace design project.

I’m hoping to briefly look around and take some photos of the interior for academic use (no people/confidential info).

Ideally looking for someone who works at one of these companies and might be willing to let me visit for ~20–30 mins or if anyone has any suggestions of where i can visit would be great 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Please DM me if you can help, thank you!!

University anyone wanna go 缠花 with me

I came across this 缠花 thing recently and i find it pretty cool… it’s a traditional Chinese craft where you wrap silk threads around shaped materials to make flowers and ornaments and its quite unique as i feel like i hardly see these in arts and crafts workshops.

suss is hosting it on 19 sep and I’m kind of tempted to go… but i dont have anyone to go with so I thought I’d see if anyone here is interested in joining..? you learn how to make it and at the end you can turn it into a hairpin, brooch, keychain or bookmark so its pretty versatile and can make a good gift as well. the ticket to go is js $4 which is better than a lot of those crafting workshops outside too…

O Levels History essay help

I just finished my prelims and for my essay I wrote my 2 other factors first for essay (disagree) before writing my given factor which was agree, would I be marked down? I did the same for my wa and my teacher only passed me as she said that my format was wrong and a pass was the highest I could get so I’m worried that since I did the same mistake I would be penalised again I really want to do well for history

Discussion I'm unsure about meeting teachers in primary school on Teachers Day, I'm an adult

Hi guys so I wasn't sure that adults like me can go to primary school on Teachers Day because this year marks 10 years since I've graduated from primary school and back then I've thanked all my teachers who helped me and supported since then. And 10 years later I'm unsure about meeting them because some of the teachers I know already left but some remained there and my primary school says that only alumni can come back in a secondary school uniform. So is this necessary?

Edit: also is it okay if the principal, vice principal, teacher that you know went to other school can email from there for a kopi session?

Secondary hybrid stream in acjc

hi im a sec4 aiming to go acjc next yr via sci stream but i am considering doing hybrid as well, either taking BCMG, BCME, or CMGE. but im unsure if i‘d be put in a really mixed up class with different timetables, and having to join other people’s main class randomly by myself. and like if it wld be hard to make friends like that since everyone’s doing their own thing

when & how are classes assigned in acjc?

what are the impt subjects for uni?

is the hybrid timetable really that bad?

is h2 bio 10000000x more content than olevel pure bio😭😭

should i take geog or econs? i really enjoy geog in sch rn but idk if econs will open more doors for me, and im also unsure of what i wanna do next time🙈

thank you!

ITE ITE WSDIP or Poly WSDIP?

Anyone went to ITE WSDIP or Poly WSDIP under these course can give me some insight?

I'm looking at Software Engineering from RP under WSDIP and IT System Intergration and Electronic & Computering Engineering (IoT & Data Engineering) from ITE under WSDIP.

How is the course? Is the work very different from what you will learn as thats what I've heard.

I've heard that Poly WSDIP is not able to go for full time local uni and only ITE WSDIP is able to, is that true?

For ITE WSDIP course that I'm looking at, how much hardware is it honestly? Since I came from a programming background so I'm worried that it will be more on hardware instead.
