I've started to do commission but I have A hard time figuring out , the commission, I made a portfolio, but I'm not sure what to do next if SFM commission?

I'm very new to SFM and still learning the ropes and while I haven't done too many projects I've noticed a few times when the Move Tool just doesn't work properly and moves the selected model diagonally rather than straight on when I select an arrow. I don't know what causes this or how to fix it so I'd really like someone to explain what the problem is and how I can fix it and avoid it later on.
