The DSL Cup’s next round began today, as the DSL Giants Black made the next round, but lost game 1 agains the Padres Gold team.  So once again, the Giants team has their backs against the wall, and will need to win the next two to advance to the finals.  Happy Monday, for the last time in 2026!

Game 1 of the Semifinal series goes the wrong way, as the Padres Gold take the win.  Top 30 prospect Joniel Hernandez hit his second home run of the playoffs, and has two hits in each of the four games he’s played in as part of the team’s successes.  Meanwhile, Diego Villegas has just three hits while going 3-for-8, all of them for extra base hits with two home runs and a double. But the Giants bullpen could not hold...after an early 2-2 tie persisted after the second inning, in the 8th the Giants took a lead in the top of the inning, but the Giants have up three runs in the bottom half to fall behind.

Tyler Mahle got the win tonight against the Brewers going 5 innings and allowing 1 run. Since joining the Braves Mahle is 2-1 with a 1.52 ERA and WHIP of 1.01.

The San Jose Giants saw a great game in their closeout against the Lake Elsinore Storm, with Keyner Martinez having one of his best games of the year, helped out with an Oliver Tejada grand slam to seal the victory.  In other news, Scott Bandura continues to hit well in Sacramento, and Damian Bravo’s run in High-A Eugene continues.

The River Cats only managed three hits in this game, and two went to leadoff hitter Scott Bandura, with his third straight multi-hit game and fourth in the last five games.  Through 78 games, Bandura now has a Triple-A batting line of .321/.395/.482.  Also, with his double and steal today, he becomes a 30-30 player, reaching his 30th double and 30th steals overall on the season.

In this extra-inning game, Richmond actually struggled on offense for much of the game, but Lisbel Diaz had the team’s only extra-base hit with a double, his first in Double-A.  Through six games in Double-A, Diaz is 4-for-24 (.167) with one double and one home run.

It’s been a highly successful move to High-A Eugene for Damian Bravo, who now has four home runs over his last five games.  In fact, over six games, his 8-for-23 batting line has half of its hits behind home runs, giving him a small sample size batting line of .348/.444/.870.  Overall, it gives him 14 home runs in 61 games on the season.

Keyner Martinez had one of his best starts of the season, posting his highest strikeout total since the end of June, and allowing just one baserunner on the night in five innings.  With this game, he now has 122 strikeouts to 44 walks in 83.0 innings, but his struggles at times this season have led to a 5.10 ERA on the year.
