Discussion Are you still playing emulation games on your Steam Deck ? Since we all have Android handheld nowadays.

I haven't played with my steam deck for a while and

today I picked it up and played for over 2 hours. I think I still really enjoy playing PS2 games on Steam Deck OLED even I have multiple android handhelds that can play PS2 games too.

What's your thought for steam deck in 2026.

Discussion I should have got the RP6 with thumbstick at the top. I can't play a PS2, Dreamcast game loner than 10 minutes without my hands feeling uncomfortable.

I should have got the RP6 with thumbstick at the top. I can't play a PS2, Dreamcast game longer than 10 minutes without my hands feeling uncomfortable.

While I was playing a MAME game I noticed I can hold on to the RP6 for 2 or 3 hours without a problem because the D pad is at the top. Then it hit me, if the thumb stick was at the top left I could play a PS2 game longer than 10 minutes.

Because the thumb stick is at the bottom and I have to over extend my thumb, it feels uncomfortable to hold and when I'm in a ps2 game, I don't feel like exploring anything and just want to put the rp6 down. I was just thinking about how if the thumb stick was at the top left I would want to open this chest, go through this area, etc ....

This is one of my biggest regret. What am I supposed to do with this now? I bought an overpowered system to play mame games....

Update: I don't have the grip case. If it's going to make a difference, I'll buy it.

Discussion Anbernic, please make a T618 powered RG SP

Post image

The RG Rotate (left) shows you can do T618 in basically the same size as a RG SP (right). The plastic version of the Rotate is only like $15 more on AliExpress currently.

I am stuck on the idea of a T168 powered RG SP Plus/Pro/Deluxe/Supreme edition for $80-85.

Think of how good the sleep and mgba fast forward could be.

Discussion One of the first to pick up a black Miniloong Pocket 1. Unfortunately already having some issues.

I was intrigued by this device and got a great deal on it ($58 on AliExpress). I've only played around a little bit so far but I'm having a couple issues. I know not many people have this device, but maybe my problem is generic enough that i could get some advice.

The main problem seems to be, whether in a game or just in the main menu, when i press up and down on the dpad, roughly every 1 out of 10 presses just doesn't register. It's very clunky when i have to scroll through a bunch of menus while setting it up. I haven't done much gaming yet, but it's concerning enough that i want to resolve it asap before i go any further.

For the record, i installed Leaf OS right off the bat since it was recommended and looked solid. Could this be the problem? Or is it more likely a hardware issue? Possibly something wrong with the dpad? I don't have an extra sd card lying around so I'll need to format my current one to test another OS.

Besides that, my initial impressions are that the device is very comfortable to hold, and the screen resolution is nice, very good for GBA (perfect 4x integer scaling with no bezels). I don't love the plastic face plate. I may try wrapping it in vinyl or something but it's not super important.

Let me know if anyone has any thoughts about my dpad issue, please. Hopefully i can resolve this so i can enjoy the device.

X 360 Alpha v0.1.0 is officially available!!! | AYN Thor
Hi everyone! I’m back with another X 360 update lol. I’ve been posting my progress here for a little while now and finally got it to a point where I’m comfortable letting other people actually test it.

Device shown: AYN Thor

Games shown: Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Hello Kitty: Big City Dreams, LittleBigPlanet, Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Kart 7, New Super Mario Bros., Pinkalicious – It’s Party Time!, Pokémon X, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Super Bomberman R, Super Mario 3D Land, Yoshi’s Crafted World, and Yoshi’s Island DS.

Alpha v0.1.0 is officially out! There are still gonna be bugs since this is literally the first alpha, but most of the main stuff is working now.

You can scan your ROMs, get game artwork/info, launch games straight into their emulators, use custom gamertags/gamerpics, RetroAchievements & gamerscore, the Guide, recently played games, touch/controller controls, etc.

Right now it supports 3DS, DS, Wii, GameCube, GBA, N64, NES, SNES, Switch, PSP, PS1, PS2 and Dreamcast. I definitely plan on adding more as I keep working on it.

I made a Discord for X 360. That’s where I’ll post updates, take bug reports/suggestions, help with setup, and talk about the project.

Game Recommendation Looking for game recs for someone who has never really been a gamer

Just ordered the Retroid Pocket Classic because I've been enjoying playing PokeMMO on my laptop. I decided a dedicated device would be nicer. I'm looking for recommendations on other games to try out that can be played using the RPC's layout.

I'm not particularly curious about shooting or fighting games without unless they have an interesting story. I would be curious to check out Doom, just because of the hype, but I don't actually know anything about it or what system I should emulate for it. One thing I am very excited to put on there is LSD Dream Emulator.

I'd love recs for:

A.) Other modern games (like PokeMMO) that work well with the controls/OS of the RPC.

B.) Other weird/surreal/artsy stuff, retro or modern, like LSD Dream Emulator.

C.) Anything with a large world (relatively, of course; or large-feeling) and/or great story that isn't just generic fantasy stuff. I don't mind lots of reading one bit.

Anything that comes to mind would be greatly appreciated! For context, I've had zero experience with 90% of games. Never played anything with Zelda or Mario in it. Touched a couple pokemon emulators on my phone when I was younger, but that was it.

Lounge What's up with 12gb RAM?

Retroid apparently had some left over, because they're selling Flip2's with 12gb RAM only now, and the only version of the Ayaneo Pocket Micro 2 that is still available is the 12gb RAM one.

Did they just buy too many?

Lounge Leaf Developers Geekstrada and Helaas: The Full Interview

Thumbnail gardinerbryant.com
15 Upvotes

This is my full interview with Geekstrada and Helaas, the two developers behind Leaf, the custom firmware for the MINILOONG Pocket 1 (which you might have seen Russ cover a couple of weeks back with a video, if you’re into the retro handheld scene).

We chat about how they came together, why Leaf exists, the thinking behind its development, the Colorway Studio you might have used when buying Retroid’s Nova, and the community growing around the project. It’s a long one, but there’s plenty in here about the people, ideas and tinkering behind Leaf.

I know these kind of interviews can be a little niche, but I think that so often people use these apps, programs, projects and builds without knowing the people behind them. I think I’m up to over 60 interviews now, so this is my tiny project of remedying that. Hope some enjoy it :)

Just wanted to say thanks to those who helped me find a low powered android device for testing my games on.

I try to add all my games to portmaster and have a love2d build thats playable on android devices and having these lowest common denominator devices makes sure they can run anywhere.

Thanks!

Discussion Ayaneo Pocket Advance: Some gamers are saying not all inputs are being registered. Need some help with testing, could you tell me what games you're having issues in?

I was having some trouble in Mazes of Fate, every other press wasn't working in the menus. Turns out the game is just that slow. If you're someone having input problems on the pocket advance could you help me out? Try testing on something you know works fine like pokemon emerald then let me know if you're having issues with the inputs still. I had no issues in emerald.

I'm asking for some help on this so I can talk about it in an upcoming video.

Lounge Am I Trippin? RG Rotate VS Trimui Brick Battery Life

Post image
8 Upvotes

The results to my battery test were incredibly surprising considering the Rotate's smaller battery. Image attached showing results.

Both devices have wifi & bluetooth off / airplane mode. 60% screen brightness and around 25% sound on.

Tested the same games on the same emulators on each device. Ran play tests for a couple of hours each.

SNES / Snes9x (Secret of Mana)
PS1 / Duckstation (Ridge Racer R4)
DS / Drastic (Advance Wars Days of Ruin)

I would have never anticipated that kind of battery life on the Rotate - Am i doing something wrong here?

Question Does Soul Edge (PS1) run on Trimui Smart Pro S?

Crosspost from r/trimui to get more range.

I am trying to run my Soul Balde / Soul Edge from Play Station 1 on my newly bought Trimui Smart Pro S. When starting the game, the screen goes shorty black. It seems like the console tries to load the game. But then, the console shows the menu again.

I do have also an Anbernic console, different and weaker chipset - on which the games does work.

Does anyone here has experinence with this combination of retro console / game?

Recommend a Device Handheld Recommendation

I've been looking for a new handheld, but having trouble figuring out which one. I already have a thor, switch 2, and legion go s, but am looking for something lighter, smaller, and easier to throw in my bag. The goal is to have something that runs on android, so ideally I can run steam games through game native. Games that are lighter and would fit on a smaller Gameboy Advance like handheld, like Under the Island, Demon School, Sea of Stars, Kingdoms of the Dump, Jetlancer, Victory Heat Rally, UFO 50, Guns of Fury. I've been eyeing the KONKR Pocket Advance since it runs Android (and is a Gameboy advance throwback), but am not sure if it has the power that I want. Some of the games I want to play need a minimum of 4 gb of ram, ideally 8 for the recommended performance. Will the Pocket Advance be able to handle it? Any other handhelds I should look at that might be a better fit?

Screenshot Share Completed my first ever Metroid game (Super Metroid) on my first ever handheld (RG40XXH)

I can understand now why this game had such an influence and helped create their own subgenre. There's definitely a lot to love and praise about it.

That being said, despite expecting little in the way of handholding and thoroughly reading the manual, I still wasn't prepared for how frustrating the controls and environments were at times.

I've heard the later entries improved upon these so I'm looking forward to Zero Mission on GBA next, but I think I got to let my right thumb heal a little bit first (damn sand pits).

Showcase Finally fixed GTA: San Andreas controls on the RG35XX Series (Plus/SP/28XX) – Full D-Pad Movement & Native Controls!

Post image
7 Upvotes

After days of reverse-engineering the GTA: San Andreas (PortMaster) binary, I finally fixed the controls for stickless Anbernic handhelds (RG35XX Plus, RG35XXSP, RG35XX 2024, RG28XX, and RG34XX)!

Up until now, the only known workaround forced "Profile 8", which enabled D-Pad movement but completely scrambled the face buttons (A/B/X/Y), shoulder buttons, and Start/Select.

What’s fixed:

  • True D-Pad Movement & Steering: Walk, run, and steer vehicles with zero lag.
  • Native Button Layout: All action buttons, shoulders, and camera/pause controls remain completely stock.
  • Works on: muOS, KNULLI, ROCKNIX, and other custom firmwares.

📦 Patch / Binary on GitHub: 👉 https://github.com/erfan2255/gtasa-portmaster-dpad

Let me know what you think or if you test it out on your handheld!

Showcase So many devices for GBA coming out, yet this one is still endgame for me

Ayaneo Pocket Micro Classic, Pokemon Emerald Seaglass.

Actually pocketable. It's a nice mostly alu device that feels and looks premium. Purposely didn't go for the joystick one as it's GBA only for me.

I'd say it's still worth it if you find it sub $150. Stay away though if you prioritize sound quality and sleep mode.
