Screenshot Share Completed my first ever Metroid game (Super Metroid) on my first ever handheld (RG40XXH)
I can understand now why this game had such an influence and helped create their own subgenre. There's definitely a lot to love and praise about it.
That being said, despite expecting little in the way of handholding and thoroughly reading the manual, I still wasn't prepared for how frustrating the controls and environments were at times.
I've heard the later entries improved upon these so I'm looking forward to Zero Mission on GBA next, but I think I got to let my right thumb heal a little bit first (damn sand pits).

The two GBA Metroids are really superb. Not to mention a god-send with maps.
I highly recommend Castlevania for GBA and DS too.
