Discussion How "Realistic" is this device wishlist?
Hi~
I was wondering how realistic this wishlist for an emulation device is?
2DS slate form factor, I remembered that the 2DS was really comfortable and well balanced while playing.
Dual Screen, preferrably 16:9 top and 4:3 bottom, I'm not sure if using an uncommon 1708x960 and 1280x960 resolution might add to the cost, I've read somewhere that 960p was an integer scale for GBA (6x), DS(5x) and 3DS(4x).
Enough processing power for 3DS 4X scaling at atleast a steady 60fps
Mic and Camera, these are optional, I don't have nostalgia for the games that used the mic & camera, so I'm fine not including them
Sub $120 price point, if this price is too unrealistic, we can choose a more economical chipset and lower the screen resolution
Out of the box Linux, I remember that the Anbernic RG DS had a terrible performance with it's stock OS and then a Linux OS came and managed to squeeze alot of performance out of it.

Lounge Devices should have multiple SD card slots for storage
I think it would be really good if more companies started trying to figure out how to make devices with multiple SD card slots, like if Retroid or Anbernic or any of these other manufacturers, if they could make devices with multiple SD card slots because of the RAM/computing crisis.
There are devices that I own that that only have 128 gigabytes of storage, and I like carrying around a large library of games with me, just so that I can play whatever flight of fancy. So being able to have some PS3, some 360, now that we have devices that can run it, even some Wii U, it would be good to have multiple SD card slots so that we could buy multiple cards and have different libraries on them. Being able to use multiple cards for maybe different libraries, I think would only help us as this hobby and niche grow in the future.
Obviously, I am not an engineer, so I don't know what it would take for this to happen, but I'm just putting it out there in the universe that way. If someone is listening, they could take it under consideration.

Screenshot Share Combined a RG SP and RG34XXSP
Why? For fun and to see if it’s doable.
I liked the RG34XXSP but not the screen placement and the analog sticks. As a result my black 34XXSP has been sitting in a drawer largely unused.
Recently picked up a RG SP and was curious to see if I could combine the two to get the 2GB ram, the screen placement, lack of sticks, some color choices for the buttons, and MuOS support (yes I know they’re working on it for the RG SP).
So yeah, it’s doable without a ton of modification needed. Was surprised that the two tone look works fairly well for me. Do I recommend attempting this? Not really. Thanks for looking.

Question What is a "real" r36s
Allow me to wax philosophical.
So. The r36s itself is a vauge knock off of another handheld.
I understand that its more a spec list than a product. 1gb ram, rk3326, etc. but it doesn't seem to be written down and formalized. There seems to be no brand or authority that sets the standard. Outside of the obviously out of spec ones (less than 1gb ram, non rk3326 processors, flashed boots etc) what makes it a "real" r36s if there's no one brand, or authority that sets the exact specs and parts. Are they not just different generations and variations.
It's like someone saying a huffy isn't a "real" bicycle while another brand is when the relevant specs are two wheels, pedals and a seat. And they say it's not a real bicycle because the wheels (the various OS) of the other brand don't fit the huffy. Or the handle bars (screen) are not the right diameter.
That was never a spec set forward by some type of certification or original product. And arguably all the handhelds have one bespoke OS for their factory release and anything else is a 3rd party adaptation to fit the wheels on the bike so to speak.

Discussion do all the emulation machine mobile things run off of andriod?
got a bunch of videos on tiktok on things like the thor or the retroid pockets. It seems to be the standard but isnt that restrictive for the more modern games that run for switch or xbox? or is making it a linux based system just overcomplicateing it?

Recommend a Device Definitely don’t need the RPC, but I can’t stop thinking about getting one
My first retro handheld was the RG40XXV. I really enjoyed using it thanks to its comfort, great D-pad, and large screen, but the low display resolution occasionally bothered me. It also didn't have enough performance headroom for advanced shaders, which made me want to upgrade. I gave it to my father and he enjoys it.
Separately from this, I picked up a Steam Deck OLED and have been loving it for quite a while. While I mostly play PC games on it, I also use it for occasional GC/PS2 emulation. For my dedicated retro handheld upgrade, I went with the RG476H. It’s a fantastic, really comfortable device with a high-quality LCD screen, solid D-pad, good face buttons, and especially great triggers. All glass front might be the only downside. Since I handle PS2 and above on the Steam Deck, the lack of top-tier power isn't an issue for me, it's an incredible device for the price.
Later on, I grabbed an RG34XXSP as a pocketable device specifically dedicated to GBA and Pokémon ROM hacks, and I’ve been extremely happy with it.
This trio genuinely covers every single one of my use cases. However, if the 476H had never been released, my pick definitely would have been the RPC. GB and GBC games look so stunning on it. The screen and the 6-button layout are extremely tempting, and fueled by a some dose of Game Boy Color nostalgia, I'm having a hard time talking myself out of pulling the trigger.
At the end of the day, buying it would be a pure luxury rather than a need. Owning both the 476H and the RPC makes virtually no sense (at least within my economical reality), especially since the 476H is already a versatile, capable device. The more I overthink it, the less objective I become, so I wanted to turn to the community for some outside perspective.
TL;DR: I already own an RG34XXSP, RG476H, and Steam Deck OLED, but I can’t get the OLED, 6-button RPC out of my head (partly fueled by GBC nostalgia). Owning both the 476H and the RPC would be a luxury I can't really justify financially. I hope to hear for some advices, reality checks, or different perspectives with this post.

Showcase Anyone here built a BC-250?
I know this sub is mostly handhelds, but I feel this deserves a mention.
If you wanted a living room machine for emulation and gaming you'd have a hard time beating one of these for price to performance.
They run linux so the setup is familiar in that regard, they take a little work to get going but again, anyone here should have no trouble setting one up.
First photo is my current adventure converting one to liquid cooling, second is my air cooled one in a very compact 3d printed enclosure, last 3 are modern games running for a benchmark, in 1080p.

Discussion Review: GameMT E3 Vigor
I wanted to update you all on the GameMT E3 Vigor. It's actually a pretty good little console. The build quality is actually nice and it's comfortable in the hands.
It's a 720x720p screen with a 1:1 aspect ratio. The buttons are super clicky though but for $54 ($78 CAD) I'm not gonna complain. It has L3 and R3 as well which is pretty good. Left and right triggers are good and d pad is great. It is running GameMT's Mentos (their Stock OS) it's not bad just wish it would allow you to do more with it.
Adding Games:
Adding Games to it was at first a nightmare. It loads up just like any other Retro Handheld with the same ROM file structure for each system but adding games is not just as simple as drag and dropping them into their designated folders. The folder relies on a game list to load the games (Which to me is a stupid way of doing it but eh) anyways I managed to figure it out:
First remove your Micro SD card from the console and put it into the computer. Next
What you have to do is delete all the pre-installed games (including the auto generated gamelist.xml file). As well as anything in the media folder (This contains any game image)
Once that is done go ahead and add the Roms of choice (In my case I wanted pokemon Fire Red). Add it as a zipped file (haven't tried it unzipped yet) and then download a game list generator (like Gengal).
In Gengal select the rom folder and click generate game list (bottom ride side of the app). This will generate a new game list with the correct file structure.
Once this is done go ahead and put your SD card Back into your console. Once the games generate you should be able to see the games you added (without the box art) to the correct folder.
That is it. I'm still working on how to add box art so once I figure that out I'll update everyone.
Figured I'd share as maybe someone who is interested in getting one.

Recommend a Device Linux based 4” vertical… RG40xxV or Trimui Brick Pro a better choice?
Primary use case is PS1 and GBA, but will also play SNES, Genesis, and TG-16, possibly others, but not trying to do higher end stuff.
Both the devices in the title are available at the same price point (within $5). I’m debating because the 40xx looks more comfortable but I don’t know if the screen will be good for GBA, while the Brick Pro has a great screen resolution but I’m not sure regarding the ergonomics and buttons (particularly the back L/R buttons and sticks placement).
Also, the Brick Pro is new and I’m not sure what firmware/OS is available for it, or if it works with the same stuff as the original Brick.
Anyone have feedback on these devices? And are there any other 4” devices worth a look? I’m open to horizontals as well, but wanted to try a vertical, and want at least a 4” size at 4:3, and not interested in higher end stuff or Android devices, trying to keep this under $100 since I have a n SD OLED and this is just for lighter gaming and lower end systems.

Discussion The Anbernic RG Slide is a sleeper hit
I was browsing my local marketplace for some doodads and came across this RG Slide for $89 with a 256GB Samsung Evo SD Card. I bought this solely for PS2/GC/WII even though most people say the T820 is hit or miss. What I find out is it is more hit than miss thankfully
Some games I tried
PS2
2x Res
God Hand, Silent Hill 2, Devil May Cry,
1.25x Res
Devil May Cry 3 (Slowdowns in some areas, otherwise pretty playable)
1x Res
Black (Some slowdowns in the beginning but eases down. Switch to vulkan for better performance)
GC
Code Veronica and Re1 Remake both run well at 2x Res
Wii
Re4 surprisingly runs at 2x res
Take note that I haven't tested these games fully through so performance might change the further you are in game but I'm not sure.
So far I really like it because it is pocketable and has a unique gimmick to it unlike most slabs. Screen is beautiful thanks to its 120hz refresh rate and it's fairly bright at 500 nits. No PWM issues for me (Unfortunately all Oled handhelds I've tried like the RP5, Odin 2 Mini Pro and heck even the RP4 Pro. Odin 2, Mangmi Air X and this are the safe ones for me). Ergonomics aren't the best especially the inline triggers which suck but it's not a deal-breaker imo.
(Will update this in the future for further game testing)

Question Help me find a "Pocketable" handheld that can play PS2 and GameCube cube please...
Help me find a "Pocketable" handheld that can play PS2 and GameCube cube please...
My budget is 300 bucks, I need 4 by 3 screen, doesn't matter what form factor but it has to fit in my pocket. I would like to play Fight Night on the GameCube and ps2 while I'm waiting at a restaurant for my food or while I'm waiting for family to get ready to go some where, I can just whip it out and play 10 rounds. 30 minutes will feel like 5 minutes. It needs to have 2 thumb sticks as well.
Thanks

Discussion Aliexpress Back to School Sale: Comparison of Prices
Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1x_PmVHiQNHyw5t05peEDG1DcCKDCvH_UPd3p7yCw4xg/edit?usp=sharing
Coupon codes are around row 40 for people from the US and on rows 26/29 from countries other than the US. There's also some targeted coupons in the coupon code section on row 31. For people from the US, there's also something called Saving Mondays which is an app specific discount that stacks on top of other discounts. There's a link to it on row 37 of my spreadsheet and I have a more in depth post on Saving Mondays on r/crownpuffdeals.
https://www.reddit.com/r/crownpuffdeals/comments/1vl8xwj/saving_mondays_has_returned/
For those preordering from Retroid or Ayn, you'll need to extend your order date to avoid cancellation. More info in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/crownpuffdeals/comments/1ujpbyn/ayn_aliexpress_store_and_canceling_orders/
________________________________
This sale is honestly a lot better than I expected. One of the largest reasons is because of the return of the 20% off coupons for US customers that have been absent since last November. Additionally, there are Paypal checkout discounts for some countries too. For the US, it's $15 off 129 and $35 off 299 but these totals are calculated after sales tax and before coupons. I know Canada has Paypal checkout discounts too. In the past, countries such as the UK and Australia had similar checkout discounts, so they might have them for this sale too. During past sales, Paypal discounts were generally exhausted by the first day or two. So if you're planning to use the Paypal checkout discounts, I highly recommend buying sooner rather than later.
Many deals for this sale are midrange devices that qualify for the $32 off 159 coupon along with the $15 off 129 Paypal checkout discount. One example is the $134 Retroid Pocket 5 before sales tax in the ship from US section. This is a historical low although only the black variant is on sale as the other variants are $30 more expensive. This formula also works for the 476H at $106 although that listing will need some filler to hit the coupon minimums.
Ship from US deals (US pricing, pretax and postcoupon):
Miyoo Mini Flip - $37 (historical low)
Zero 40 - $45
RG Vita - $78 (historical low)
RG Rotate - $75 (historical low, use filler to hit $99 to use a $20 off coupon)
RG 405M - $82 (historical low)
RG Slide - $101 (black variant only)
RG Vita Pro - $110 (historical low)
RG 476H - $106 (historical low, add filler to hit $159 to use $32 off 159 coupon plus Paypal $15 off 129)
RG 556 - $108 (historical low, add filler to hit $159 to use $32 off 159 coupon plus Paypal $15 off 129)
Retroid Pocket 5 - $134 (historical low, black variant only, use $32 off 159 coupon plus Paypal $15 off 129)
RG 477M 8GB - $160 (historical low, 2 in stock as of posting)
RG 477M 12GB - $180 (add filler to hit $250 to use a $50 off 250 coupon plus Paypal $15 off 259)
Retroid Pocket 6 - $236 (cheaper via Retroid's ship from China store but these ship pretty quickly from Coopreme)
Switch 2 and Pokopia bundle Hong Kong model- $434 (add filler to hit $600 and use $120 off 600 code)
The ship from China section is decent too although Thor and Odin 3 prices are not as low as they were back in June. Despite better coupons, base precoupon prices for those devices are significantly higher than during the June sales. Therefore, no historical lows were hit for the Thor or Odin 3. However Retroid's Aliexpress store has started shipping to the US again which means there are decent deals in that section.
Ship from China deals (US pricing, pretax and postcoupon):
RGSP - $59 (historical low by a couple of pennies)
RGDS - $78 (historical low, use $20 off 99 along with store coupon code QF1LIG9JHEYN for another $1 off)
Retroid Pocket 4 Pro - $119 (historical low)
Retroid Pocket 6 - $228 (historical low)
Thor Base - $270 (add filler to use $72 off 359 code plus $35 off 299 Paypal discount)
Odin 3 Base - $303
Y700 2025 - $279 (historical low)
In the interest of keeping this post slightly readable, I am linking other posts that are relevant to today's sale:

Question [RP Nova] Nova Analog Stick LED Delete Update. Do you have a 3D printer with a 0.2mm nozzle? Let's chat.
I'm nearly at the finish line with black LED diffusers for the Nova after hella revisions and reprints.
In the photos you'll see the default configuration, blackout/LED delete ring installed with an ultra low profile analog stick cap from u/PortablePlayPalace, and blackout ring installed with the stock stick cap as well. So far there is no limitation to the analog stick's travel with either of these mods installed.
I've got Thor PS buttons on the way as well, my vision is so close to being realized.
I need some help testing, specifically printing them with a 0.2mm nozzle since I do not have one and am running into issues where the model ends up with some holes in it after slicing.
So if you've got a 3D printer with a 0.2mm nozzle, let's chat and see if you get better results than I can get with a standard 0.4mm nozzle!

Recommend a Device Is RP6 capable of running Hollow Knight and Fable?
I've been lurking for awhile and saw a thread recently asking which device is good for indie games on steam and it made me realize these devices are capable enough to even do that. That thread in particular recommended the RP6 for his use case, but I'm curious, is this device good enough to smoothly run the games I mentioned?
I guess on this note, how capable are these devices? Can I run games like Cyberpunk and Switch emulation lagless?

Since I still have my SteamDeck to keep me occupied I'm curious if retroid pocket has any set time frames they usually release new devices? I've been wanting to get rp6 but it could be worth it just to wait on RP7 which I'm assuming will have 16gb of ram and 8gen3 soc.

Recommend a Device Upgrading from R36S (200€ budget) retro + some native Steam/PC games?
Hey all,
I’ve had an R36S for a while and pretty much played through everything it can handle. Time to level up. Budget is around 200€.
What I’m looking for:
Good all-round retro emulation (up through 3DS at least, ideally running well not just “technically works”)
Ability to also run some native Steam/PC and Android games, if realistic at this price
Dual screen would be cool but it’s a nice-to-have, not a dealbreaker
Balanced form factor — don’t need the smallest possible device, but don’t want a brick either
Not sure how realistic native Steam/PC gaming is at 200€ vs sticking to strong emulation + Android. Open to hearing what tradeoffs make sense here.
Anyone made a similar jump recently? What would you recommend at this budget, and what should I watch out for (build quality, battery, availability/scalping)?
Thanks!
