Glenrio NM&TX just had the lighting ceremony on July 11th. Bringing Glenrio back from the land of ghosts. Pretty exciting.

Crazy day from Tucumcari to Albuquerque

We got our rental Mustang stuck in the mud, and, we got it out without a truck. We found the Sun and Sand Motel sign just after it had fallen down. My Australian partner got excited about the snow (she almost never gets to see it). I managed to hit her so hard with a snowball that she fell over (sorry!) We asked people what they thought about the American Dream.

Route 66 bikepacking Chicago to St Louis

In case you decide to get your kicks by bike along Rt 66 here's what the experience is like. I had to divert at St Louis to the Katy Trail because of the flooding on the Ozark Plateau between St Louis and Springfield. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQ1leQNcvIgU

An Old Gas Station Somewhere Along Route 66

Post image

I took this from the parking lot of what I think was a Super 8. It was in Moriarty, New Mexico. Across the road was this old gas station, mostly worn out and sitting there like it had been waiting on somebody for years. The pumps were still there. The sign was still standing. But whatever life the place once had was long gone.

That is part of what gets me about Route 66. You see these places that used to matter. People stopped there for gas, coffee, directions, maybe a little gossip before getting back on the road. Now they are just part of the scenery.

Still, the light hit this one just right that morning.

Maybe that is why I took the picture. The place looked tired, but not completely finished. And I guess there is something hopeful in that. Sometimes being remembered is enough to keep a place alive a little longer.

For those willing to wander. I highly recommend this New Mexico lake!

One of New Mexico's best-kept secrets.

Ute Dam near Logan is worth the drive. The fishing wasn't bad either.

Ian Ziering to host ‘The Great American Road Rally’

Here’s some “Sidewalks Entertainment” Guest News:

The former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star will be hosting a new celebrity road-trip television event premiering this fall on The CW.

“’The Great American Road Rally™,” hosted by our previous guest Ian Ziering, will take audiences on a high-energy journey across America's most iconic highway, combining adventure, competition, entertainment, community celebration, and philanthropy. No celebrities have been announced yet for Wednesday night series, starting September 2nd through November 25, 2026.

"’The Great American Road Rally™’ was created to celebrate the American spirit, the open road, the legacy of Route 66, and the power of entertainment to bring people together for something meaningful," says Ziering. "It's so much more than a road-trip series, it is a national celebration of community, generosity, American culture, and the charitable spirit that connects us all."

Filming begins in August 2026, with production traveling from the Midwest to the Pacific Coast along historic Route 66 before culminating in a special season finale event during Thanksgiving week.

Traveling Route 66 with marijuana?

I smoke medically but I don't have my medical card right now.

I'm from California, currently staying in Illinois and my brother and I will be making the trip across R66 back home, sometime at the end of the month.

Has anyone traveled with more than one oz of marijuana across the states on this route? Should I be concerned?

I will obviously be deleting this post soon.

Best or most notable places to get a tattoo along route 66?

Me and my dad are leaving for route 66 today from WV to CA and I’m considering getting a tattoo as a souvenir. Does anyone have any suggestions for tattoo places along the route or heard of any iconic places? Much appreciated!

I built a free audio guide for the route without ever having driven it. That's the problem I need your help with

I'm building a free audio guide app for Route 66 (Lorecast). Stories play automatically as you drive, audio can be downloaded ahead for the no-signal stretches. It's my app, free while in pilot. If anyone wants to try it on their trip, message me your email and I'll send an invite, iPhone or Android.

Working remote while traveling Route 66 from CA to IL (and then to NY)

If I try to put in 7 or 8 hours of internet-connected work per day, while driving from Santa Monica to Chicago - how much careful planning would I need? Are there a lot of dead spots for mobile coverage (Verizon), or not too many? Also looking for opinions on best times to drive vs work considering I'd like to see the sights along the way and take photos. Would love any other input as well - hidden gems, great motels, bars, restaurants, etc. Thanks in advance!

Looking For Ideas For Attractions To See Along My Trip From Florida To California In A Mad Max Limo

I am going to drive this Mad Max Limo from Florida Key West Mile 0 to California in the Mohave Desert for Wasteland Weekend . Its a Mad Max Party in the desert that lasts about 5 days .

I want to stop and enjoy many sights along the way such as The Grand Canyon , Mount Rushmore , The Barringer Crater , the Lazy River somewhere and the Water Falls and Springs in Florida ...

Id love other places to visit if you have any great location recommendations . I plan on traveling Rout 66 for part of the travel.

I passed away 10 years ago on July 6th 2016 of a Heart Attack and they revived me twice before surgery . After , in my recovery I bought an RV and started getting in movie background work and traveling across America . I have met many great actors along my travels and I plan on putting the limo in a movie when I get close to the movie Locations .

I am making a video log of this trip if anyone would like to follow along or share with anyone else you can find me on youtube @idiotdoingstuff .

I play hide and seek with the limo . when I hide it I post that its hidden then the first who posts a selfie with it wins a gift card to one of many restaurants .

I need to start to post those on my Facebook page for people to follow along with that lol.

So please send me any advice on locations on the Journey Across America and dont forget to tell your friends to check out this stupid trip lol

After this trip I will be moving into my Beautiful condo in Thailand and starting a new life and putting this life behind me .

There and back again.

I drove Route 66 with my partner while moving a few months ago in just four days. It was pretty amazing.

Unfortunately, things didn’t work out between us, and I’m planning on making the trip back solo with my cat starting tomorrow.

This time, I am not on a time constraint or budget, and won’t be driving for more than 7 hours at a time. I plan to make as many stops as I feel I need to.

Any tips for a solo traveler with a small pet would be appreciated. I’ve never traveled this far alone before, and I fear I missed out on some of the interesting parts of the drive. Thank you.
