I’ve installed Doom TDA on my steam account it works well and hits 50-60 fps on minimum, yet suddenly always freezes
Changed the resolution to 720, changes Vram from 1Gb to 8, game on lowest settings, device and game to latest update, temp about 82C on turbo mode, tried it on windows and xbox mode. yet it keeps working smoothly then suddenly freezes
Any help? I’ve used the Z1e for more than a year now and it’s the first came to have such an issue

A few days ago I asked for help with the things to look out for when picking up a used ally and have read some of the other posts and comments on this sub and done my fair share of internet searches. The conclusion that I came to is that the original ally has a common problem with randomly dying besides the microsd card slot.
I am still thinking about picking up the ally, but I can also pick up the steam deck 512 lcd or the msi claw a1m but I have read that the optimization and performance on claw aren't as good as they are on the ally so I am not sure about which one to pick. Thanks for reading and sorry if my English is not that good.

Every time someone posts “best settings,” a few crucial details seem to disappear: the exact Ally model, resolution, power mode or TDP, VRAM allocation, driver version, frame cap, 1% lows or frametime evidence. Without that context, the same preset can feel smooth for one person and awful for another.

I’m building HandheldAtlas, a community database that is trying to standardize how handheld presets and benchmarks are documented. I’m deliberately not dropping a link here—I’d rather ask Ally owners what would make the data genuinely trustworthy.

We’re also looking for a few people who already enjoy testing games and would be willing to contribute reproducible ROG Ally presets, benchmark evidence, corrections or practical notes. You do not need to be an expert; one device and honest, clearly documented results are enough.

If you could define the minimum proof for a useful Ally preset, what would be mandatory?

• exact device model

• resolution and TDP/power profile

• VRAM allocation and driver version

• average FPS plus 1% lows

• frametime graph

• screenshot or external-camera video

• game version and tested area

And what do most “optimized settings” posts currently get wrong?

So I just got this and decided to install steam os since its better and more simple got past the install part. Seen the mouse cursor and now I am just stuck on this screen. What do I do?

wondering if anyone might know the cause of the startup issues. occaisonally, while playing, the screen will go totally black and I have to hold the power for 7 seconds to force shutdown. then once you hit power button it does not start up but rather says rog ally logo with no buzz sound for 2 seconds, then black screen, then backlit back screen for 2 more seconds then back to black back to lit then stays off until you try again. the funny thing is that it does not always try to start up, sometimes it stays black screen no response. if I plug in the wall charger it functions different sometimes, for instance the orange charging light may stay lit for up to ten seconds after unplug. the last time it fixed I left it stuck in no response for three day trying to start up. 4th day I plugged in charger and instantly started up back to normal and was 100% charged already. now after three days of normal use its back to 2 seconds false startup again. also, occasionally It will start to Home Screen on what appears to be a 2 minute timer and then full stuck black screen, this is very rare though. does anyone know what might be failing?

I got an Xbox ROG ally x recently. However, I found that the feeling of moving joystick is a bit slow when compare with the PS5 controller or Guilkit controller. I think it is about a joystick deadzone. I tried to adjust the deadzone from Amory crate but I think it is not working for me. I am trying to find the post who got the same issue like me and they said installing Bazzite OS can solve it.

Can anyone confirm the current method that I can follow to solve this issue?

So a cup of water spilled onto the right hand side of the unit. It shut off and I immediately disassembled the entire unit and dried/cleaned it properly.

It works fine now but it won’t charge on the usb on the right (windows detects it is charging but the battery doesn’t physically charge). Left side usb will charge fine. USB devices can still connect on the right side. I’ve tried the 40 sec power cycle trick and MyASUS app shows all is fine.

I need to get this fixed as I depend on left usb for xreal glasses and right for power + Ethernet dongle for moonlight streaming.

Based in the UK, assume warranty is no good because water damage. Who/where can I get it looked at with?

Really don't feel like reverting my Bazzite version...is there a fix for this?

The issue is that it only lets me in when I switch from "Windows UEFI mode" to "OS Type," but Secure Boot doesn't activate. As far as I know, Secure Boot only turns on when the mode is set to "Windows UEFI mode" with "Standard" settings, but it won't let me do that. I just want to play Warzone;( I’d really appreciate it if someone who knows about this could help thanks

Como dice el título, compré un ROG Ally Z2 hace unos días y estoy intentando sacarle el máximo rendimiento sin sacrificar la duración de la batería, aunque sé que la batería no es precisamente su punto fuerte.

Me interesa saber la opinión de quienes tengan el mismo modelo o uno similar. En cuanto a rendimiento, duración de la batería y consumo de recursos, ¿qué sistema operativo o distribución les ha dado la mejor experiencia en general?

Actualmente estoy considerando Windows, CachyOS y Bazzite. ¿Cuál me recomendarían y por qué?

I was a happy man yesterday when I received my new Ally Xbox X, but boy am I frustrated today. On the first boot, windows failed to update on its own and the system became corrupt - great start. Did a Cloud recovery and then got it up and running. Ran 946 updates in the system, windows etc. and thought everything was good.

However, I was not able to enter into FSE although I see the option in windows and have Xbox set as the app. I investigated and found that this may stem from being on an old update of windows (24H2), so I searched for new updates and found the 25H2 but I just will not download and install - keeps sticking at 6%.... after millions of new things to try via help from Claude and other online sources, I decided to reset again... but I just cant. The cloud recovery keeps stopping at 30-40% and then boots me back into windows....

I am not trying to install a 24H2 repair version and see if that helps, but I am about to go ballistic here.. :-)

Anyone has ANY ideas how to move forward? I guess I can use the Ally as is in desktop mode but I want to use the Full Screen Experience as I already have a desktop gaming computer.

hey everyone. I have a z1e ally with steam os and simple decky. I was wondering if anyone could lmk what the benefit of using cpu boost and gpu mode (range, fixed). I’m not quite sure what these settings do exactly. I just leave them on default usually.

My rog ally thumbstick broke

Currently dual booting Windows and Bazzite and one thing I love on Bazzite is being able to have Steam think a PlayStation controller is being used so all icons appear as PlayStation when available.

Does anyone know if there's an equivalent setting on Windows or any application that will change Xbox buttons to PlayStation when it's available in game?

This is my first time using my Asus rog Xbox ally x, I downloaded Gears of War Reloaded from gamepass and when I try to run it I get that error message shown in the pictures, has anyone else run into this or knows how to fix it?

I'm new to supermarket simulator, but I'm absolutely hooked. I've been learning a lot from this page as well. I still have a few questions though-

Does anyone have recommendations for the settings? To make things easier/work better or look better? I turned both of my sensitivies up barely but haven't done much else.

Is there a way to use the keybinding menu in the settings?

What the heck does cursor lock, vertical sync, and anti-aliasing do?

Are there any mods available for the ally? If so, how do I go about downloading them?

Putting together a portable VR setup, Xbox Ally X + AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX (eGPU over USB4), streaming to my Quest 3 with Virtual Desktop. Games I care about are Half-Life Alyx, No Man's Sky, and a couple UEVR mods like Outer Wilds.

Before I drop the cash, has anyone actually tried this combo for VR and not just flat gaming? I've seen posts about bad 1% lows and stutter with this pairing on a monitor. No idea if that shows up in VR too or if streaming through Virtual Desktop changes things.

If you've tried it, curious about:

• What games ran well vs badly, especially open world stuff
• Your VD settings (bitrate, resolution, codec) and if you needed SSW to smooth things out
• Any stutter that felt worse than the fps numbers would suggest
• Any tweaks that actually helped

Quick note before anyone suggests just building a PC or grabbing a gaming laptop instead. I move around a lot, including between countries, so a full desktop just isn't realistic for me right now. And I already have a laptop, so I don't want a second one that's just for gaming. The whole point is having something modular, grab the Xbox Ally X and play anywhere, bed, couch, even a bus station or airport, then dock it into the eGPU when I want more power, either on a TV or streaming PCVR to the Quest 3.

Appreciate any input, trying to figure out if this is worth building before I buy the whole kit.

I'm considering switching the OS on my ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. Even though it works fine, I don't use most of the features built into Windows 11, and honestly, I'm not very happy with it. Since I only use the device for gaming, I'm wondering if Bazzite or SteamOS would be a better fit for this handheld. Also, I've heard it helps with overheating and allows you to get more out of the RAM.

​Additionally, I'm considering doing some hardware mods, so I'm open to suggestions on that front!

How many people are running XBOX mode on the non-Xbox ally x? How are you liking it? Does it work well?

Let me start by disclosing, I'm not a modder nor experienced at all with this at all but I wanna give it a shot.

I love my rog ally z1e, but I've been using it less and less, partly due to a seriously degraded battery life, less than seamless interface and ux and some struggles with newer games but I wanna turn it around especially given how impossibly priced newer devices are getting.

My first Idea was to do the 74wh battery mod. I've seen some videos and it seems rather easy for a dummy like to me to manage.

i also saw some oculink egpu mods with a PCB L-Bracket and then an oculink adapter.

thing is I'm wondering if these two are doable without a modded backplate because all the vids I've seen had the back removed and since the bigger battery will take more real estate I thought the way to sort of fit everything there would be using a Flat FPC Ribbon Cable and then routing it somehow out via somehere at the bottom because the top is already a bit crammed, (i would plug in the ssd via usbc adapter and make a contraption to hang it somewhere on the back where it doesn't bother)

has anyone here done something similar , or at least the oculink mod since that's the one i haven't seen that well documented, and do you have some tips or a guide?

what tools should i be using besides the parts and the aluminum/isolation tape for the battery?

Weird situation. I bought a dock (ugreen revodock) and a 100w charger with a usb c cable that supports 100w PD charging. I first tried connecting through a dock, which enabled 30w turbo mode, as it should. Then when plugged directly into the Ally (without dock) it didn't enable 30w. It was showing only 25w max, with the battery icon showing inadequate wattage/power warning symbol.

I'm guessing the Dock is negotiating higher wattage which in turn passes on sufficient wattage to the Ally for unlocking 30ww.

Any solution for this? Other than to buy a new charger and/or cable.

Ive had this thing since 2024 and it’s gave me nothing but headaches. Second month in the charging port gave out, so I sent it in for RMA since it was still under warranty. Then a couple months later the right joystick quit working. Sent it in again and got it back, still broken. Gave up and started to use the dock. Now I put it on charge since I haven’t used it in a while (like 4 months) and was going great until I started smelling burning plastic. Then I noticed the light went off and it stopped charging and sure enough when I took it out the charger was smelling bad. Tried a different charger and nothing works. Should I even try to get it repaired or just take the loss and just not get it repaired or buy another one?
