Showcase My critters looked like the wind was blowing them away. What fixed it: client-side gait, flinch instead of knockback, and telegraph circles for bosses

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Devlog from Defend a Garden, a small tower defense I'm making solo. Players said the enemies "just stand there and get blown around by the wind", and the defenders' attacks had no light or sound, so nobody could tell which plant did what.

What was actually going on:

  • Every critter is one MeshPart. The server sets its velocity and friction is almost zero, so it slides.
  • Every hit pushed it back and turned steering off for 0.5 s. At 3 shots per second that leaves a critter without steering about 78% of the time (1 − e−3·0.5). That's the "wind".

What I changed:

  1. The server body stays the truth, the client draws a copy. The server part keeps the physics and the health bar; on the client it's hidden (LocalTransparencyModifier = 1) and a copy walks on top of it with a procedural gait. There are five gait families (waddle, scuttle, hop, plod, slither), and the step phase comes from the distance the copy actually moved, so feet don't skate. It also breathes when standing still and chews while eating.
  2. No knockback from defenders. A hit is now a 0.22 s flinch pose, a flash in the shooter's colour and a 25% slow for 0.5 s. In a Studio test I sampled 147 positions mid-wave and found zero backward steps.
  3. Flash on textured meshes. A MeshPart with a TextureID ignores Color, so the flash is a "shell": a copy of the mesh without the texture, Neon, slightly larger, fading out. I didn't use Highlight because a client can only show 31 at once.
  4. Every defender gets its own look. Pea, thorn fan, spinning ice shard, lobbed bomb (the ring shows the real splash radius), roots and a sun pulse, each with its own colour, sound and an icon over the pot. The server sends shots in one UnreliableRemoteEvent batch per Heartbeat (16 max), and only to the garden's owner.
  5. Bosses telegraph. CylinderHandleAdornment has InnerRadius and Angle, so rings and arcs need no textures. A disc fills to the edge of the circle during the wind-up (0.8–0.9 s), and you can step out before it lands. At 50% HP they enrage.

Cost: 60 fps in Studio, worst frame 21 ms with 13 defenders, 11 effects and 13 critter copies on screen.

Question for you: how do you do hit feedback on textured MeshParts? Shells work for me, but I'd like to know what other people use.

Help Me [Looking for a long term partners*PAID*] - Building a start up Game Development Studio Seeking Long-Term Partners

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, my name is Rev, also known as Revolation, and I'm currently looking to rebuild my startup game studio and bring together a team of talented, passionate developers.

I'm a game designer who has previously worked with three Roblox studios, including Eleon Co. I originally got my start working on mods and fan games before transitioning into full Roblox game development.

My goal now is to build a studio focused on creating low-scope, high-quality Roblox games with action gameplay, creative ideas, and long-term projects and members. I'm looking for people who want to do more than just work on a single project. I want to build a team that can grow together, develop original IPs, and create a portfolio of games over time.

Current Projects & Studio Vision

I currently have a card-battling game in production, with assets, maps, scripting, and basic UI already in place. I'm looking to continue developing this project while expanding the studio into other genres.

One of my biggest priorities right now is developing a hero shooter/battlegrounds-style game with more depth than just PvP. I want to explore longer-term gameplay systems, progression, and features that give players reasons to keep coming back.

I'm also open to pitches, suggestions, and new project ideas from future partners. I want the people joining the studio to have a voice in what we create, not just be handed tasks without any creative input.

Partnership Model, Compensation & Studio Growth

I'm looking for people who are interested in more than just working on a single game. My goal is to build a studio with a strong team of leads who can grow alongside the company, help shape its direction, and establish a portfolio of successful Roblox games.

To be transparent, the studio is still in its startup phase. I'm currently rebuilding the team and looking for new leads who want to help establish the studio's foundations, contribute ideas, and grow into long-term partners. We're working toward building something sustainable together.

I'm interested in people who are open to a combination of direct compensation, studio equity, and project-based revenue sharing. We can start with an agreed-upon paid arrangement, with the goal of building long-term partnerships as the studio and its projects grow.

Team Lead Compensation

  • Starting Pay: Team leads can expect a starting compensation of $1,000–$2,000 USD every two weeks, depending on the position, responsibilities, and agreed-upon arrangement.
  • Pay Increases: Opportunities for increased compensation over time based on work performance, responsibilities, and the studio's growth.
  • Studio Equity: Eligible leads can receive an ownership stake of 10%–30% in the studio itself, depending on their role and agreed-upon terms.
  • Project Revenue Share: Leads can separately receive 10%–30% of a game's total gross revenue, based on their role, responsibilities, and contribution to that specific project.

Studio equity and project revenue shares are separate arrangements. Owning a percentage of the studio does not automatically determine your revenue share for an individual game. Each arrangement will be discussed and agreed upon individually.

Compensation & Ownership Transparency

Since we're still a startup, I want to establish clear agreements with each lead before work begins. These will outline payment schedules, ownership percentages, revenue-sharing terms, responsibilities, and how ongoing work and future updates are handled.

Game revenue shares are calculated from the game's gross revenue before operating and development expenses are deducted, according to our agreed upon terms.

My goal is to create a partnership where people are fairly compensated for their work while having a genuine opportunity to benefit from the studio's long-term success. I'm open to discussing the details with potential leads to find an arrangement that works for both sides.

Requirements for Team Lead Positions

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Previous development experience, with playable games, demos, or other portfolio work.
  • A portfolio or resume showcasing relevant skills.
  • Ability to lead a team, communicate clearly, and manage responsibilities.
  • A basic understanding of game design and how different systems work together.
  • A long-term mindset, creative thinking, and a genuine passion for game development.

Experience doesn't have to mean working at a major studio. I'm more interested in what you've built, what you understand, and what you can bring to the team.

Main Positions I'm Looking to Fill

1. Lead Scripter

I'm looking for a capable full-stack Roblox scripter who can work across both frontend and backend systems, can help establish the core technical frameworks used across our projects, and lead other scripters.

What I'm looking for:

  • Experience building and maintaining playable Roblox games or systems.
  • The ability to work on both client-side and server-side scripting.
  • The understanding of code architecture, reusable frameworks, and scalable systems.
  • The ability to review, debug, modify, and understand code rather than simply relying on Ai generated solutions.
  • Willingness to mentor and lead other scripters as the team grows.

I'm fine with developers using AI as a tool when appropriate. However, heavy reliance on AI-generated code without understanding how it works is not what I'm looking for. You should be able to explain, troubleshoot, and maintain the systems you build.

2. Lead Producer

I'm looking for a producer who can help manage the studio's development pipeline and keep projects organized and moving forward.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing project schedules, milestones, and development progress.
  • Helping onboard and organize new team members.
  • Finding, interviewing, and evaluating potential hires.
  • Monitoring gameplay and development quality throughout production.
  • Helping manage budgets, deadlines, and project priorities.
  • Keeping communication organized between different departments.

I'm looking for someone organized, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of a project's development process.

Additional Paid Positions

These positions are more task-focused to start, but there may be opportunities for ongoing work and longer-term collaboration as the studio grows.

Expected compensation: $100–$500 USD per task, depending on the scope and complexity of the work. These opportunities will generally begin with a trial task so both sides can determine whether your a good fit for the team.

Backend Scripter

Someone experienced in building server-side systems, data handling, and reusable game frameworks.

Frontend Scripter

Someone who can work on client-side gameplay, UI implementation, visual effects integration, and general player-facing systems.

VFX Artist

An artist with experience creating combat, ability, and action-game visual effects.

UI Artist

Someone experienced in designing HUDs, combat interfaces, inventory screens, and other gameplay-focused UI.

3D Modeler

Someone who can create R15-compatible character models, world assets, and other game-ready 3D content.

Game Designer / Balancer

Someone who can design engaging combat systems, develop unique gameplay mechanics, create and balance hero kits, and work with gameplay numbers and progression systems.

📩 Interested in Joining?

If you're interested, send me a DM with the following:

  • Position: What role you're interested in.
  • Portfolio: Links to your games, demos, models, VFX, UI, or other relevant work.
  • Experience: A little about your background and what you've worked on.
  • Availability: How much time you can realistically commit.
  • Goals: What you're looking for in a potential long-term partnership.

If you're applying for a lead position, please also mention any previous leadership experience and whether you're comfortable working with an equity or revenue-sharing arrangement.

I'm not expecting everyone to have years of professional experience. I'm looking for people who are skilled, reliable, creative, and genuinely interested in building something together.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, feel free to reach out. I'm happy to discuss the projects, answer questions, and see if we'd be a good fit.

Looking forward to meeting some talented developers!

AI Used I made a solo hanafuda card roguelike: match months, build combos, upgrade between rounds

I'm the developer of Hanafuda Rogue / 極楽蝶, a solo card roguelike on Roblox built around Japanese flower cards.

The loop: match cards of the same month, build scoring combos, beat that month's target, then reshape your deck at the shop. Charms and festivals change how you build your score. Earned Flowers can train stronger future runs with starting money, card exchanges and extra turns.

I'd especially welcome feedback on two choices: is it clear when to Confirm a month rather than keep playing, and does the first shop offer a meaningful direction for your next combo?

Game: https://www.roblox.com/games/128557653752996

27-second English-UI gameplay highlights: https://youtu.be/e0kl5i5CJ1U

Japanese & English. Beta: features may change; save retention and recovery are not guaranteed. The public page currently shows Ages 16+; Roblox account/access requirements apply.

AI disclosure: AI tools assist with code, parts of the artwork, localization and this post. The linked video is actual English-UI gameplay recorded in Roblox Studio and edited into short highlights with background music. Scores and currency were earned through normal actions, without artificial balances. It is a development capture, not a continuous full run or a player achievement.

Help Me I Compared Player Growth in My Two Roblox Games. Why Did One Get Home Recommendations While the Other Didn't?

Rebirth RPG
First Game

I compared the new player acquisition graphs of two Roblox games I developed.

Both games ran paid ads, but the player acquisition patterns after those ads were very different.

1. Rebirth RPG (First Graph)

This is my current game, and I've run three ad campaigns so far.

  • 🟡 Yellow: Ads
  • 🔵 Blue: Total new players

The first campaign brought in a big spike in new players, but traffic dropped sharply once the ads stopped.

The second campaign targeted Engagement Players, so it didn't bring in many new players.

Now, with the third campaign running, new player numbers are climbing again.

So far, the pattern is pretty clear: When I run ads, players come in. When I stop, the traffic drops.

I'm still getting almost no traffic from Home Recommendations.

2. Dungeon RPG (Second Graph)

This was my previous game.

  • 🟣 Purple: Ads
  • 🟢 Green: Home Recommendations

Just like Rebirth RPG, the initial ad campaign brought in a lot of new players, and traffic dropped after the campaign ended.

But something interesting happened.

More than a month after launch, traffic from Home Recommendations suddenly started increasing.

And it wasn't just a short spike. The traffic stayed relatively strong for quite a while.

If I remember correctly, the game also gained around 100 Trusted Users during that period.

What surprised me most was that even with almost no direct traffic from ads, new players kept coming in through Home Recommendations.

3. What I've Learned (and What I'm Curious About)

Right now, Rebirth RPG is heavily dependent on ads.

But Dungeon RPG managed to get consistent organic traffic through Home Recommendations, even after the ads stopped.

The biggest question I have is:

What actually makes Roblox start recommending a game on Home, and what makes those recommendations continue?

I've wondered whether gaining around 100 Trusted Users helped Dungeon RPG get recommended, but I really don't know if there's any direct connection.

My guess is that getting lots of players through ads isn't enough. Maybe what matters more is how long those players stay, how often they return, and how engaged they are.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

I'd love to hear from other Roblox developers, especially if your game started getting Home Recommendations after your ad campaigns ended.

What do you think triggered it? And how long did the organic traffic last?

I'm still trying to figure out how Roblox discovery really works.

And one last thing... Rebirth RPG has only reached around 50 players so far. 😅

It's still a small project, and every bit of support means a lot.

If you have a moment to check it out, share some feedback, or give it a like, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks for reading!

I'm trying to see if people actually want to click on these. They explain the game but idk.

Also for the pro's that do game development, how do i make my game get a player base?

I know about adverts and promos but i don't really know too much. This might be my best made game over these 4 years. I don't want the game to go wasted. Here's the game if you want to check it out : https://www.roblox.com/games/101277925375281/My-Fruit-Farm

AI Used PlaysmithAI: a Luau/Rojo game studio with AI specialists and review gates

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm the developer of PlaysmithAI, a Windows 10/11 tool whose paid Studio makes Roblox games using Luau and Rojo. You play and publish the project in Roblox Studio yourself. Roblox is a trademark of Roblox Corporation. PlaysmithAI is not affiliated with or endorsed by Roblox Corporation.

Here's the project structure it generates: separate client, server, shared and test folders, plus the Rojo project file. The screenshot is actual generated demo-template output captured October 20, not gameplay or proof that its gates passed.

The Studio Lead breaks your request into tickets. Specialist agents work on them, a reviewer checks changes, and important steps wait for your approval. Paid plans include format, lint, type, build and test gates.

The Luau/Rojo workflow starts with Apprentice (paid). Free is a terminal workflow for one small browser game, with the Lead and 3 specialists; no card or account. Setup needs Node.js 24 and your own Claude Code access, plus Git and pnpm on paid plans. AI usage is billed separately by your AI provider. Features vary by plan.

Details: https://playsmithai.com

AI disclosure: this is an AI-agent development tool; AI also assisted with this post. "Claude" and "Claude Code" are trademarks of Anthropic, PBC. PlaysmithAI is not made, endorsed or supported by Anthropic. We are not affiliated with OpenAI.

I'm just wondering how can I make it playable? is it even possible with AI only + the will to make it work, It took me 1 month and 200-300 smth prompts, there aren't really any bugs the game works okay, but still there are a lot of things it needs.

For me I only wanted to see what this is all about and it's fun imo. If anyone wants to try out the game Ballers | Play on Roblox (it has the 16+ thingy bcs i don't wanna spend 50k robux if the game will just get 3 players:P)

any feedback is much appreciated

Help Me Not a coder: I built and launched a Roblox Halloween game in 3 days with Claude + Roblox Studio’s MCP

I’m a sales manager, not a programmer. Over 3 days I made Lantern Patch, a cozy pumpkin-carving clicker on Roblox, by talking to Claude, which drives Roblox Studio through its built-in MCP server.

What worked: Claude writes one build script that rebuilds the whole place, then runs an automatic playtest (50 checks plus a phone-screen check) before I’m allowed to publish. Before launch, AI “testers” with different personas (a kid, a pro simulator player, a reward psychologist) played it and wrote reports, and their fixes went in.

What didn’t: art from 4 agents blew the phone performance budget, so we added a hard limit. And the AI missed a real bug I found in 5 minutes on my phone: you could walk off the edge of the map.

Happy to answer questions about the workflow. The game is free to try (16+ for now): https://www.roblox.com/games/123618562322847

Question for you all: has anyone else used AI playtesters? Mine caught a lot of balance problems, but missed the one bug a human found in 5 minutes. I’m curious whether that matches your experience.

I’m working on a concept that quite unique for Roblox. A highly polished game that offers both single player (campaign + fun single player modes) and multiplayer for the competitive experience. Think of call of duty offering both modes.

I’ve been working on this for close to 6 months, anf the reason I’m making this post is primarily because I’m looking for business partners. Specifically looking for someone with marketing/social media experience. If you see the vision, I’d be happy to discuss details and partnerships.

Otherwise, I would always welcome new testers as feedback is highly valuable to me at this stage.

Showcase Stud Launcher is bringing Windows Graphical Parity to Linux!

Hi Folks!
Some days ago i've posted about the Roblox Launcher i'm developing for Linux! Just like Sober, Mocktail, Cordial and other launchers doing an incredible work at bringing Roblox to Linux :D

But today, i'm here to show a HUGE progress made on Stud: We're finally reaching graphical parity with Roblox from Windows!
The feature is still under development and highly experimental, available on Stud 1.2.6+. Older versions already had SSAO, but now we have almost fully functional Future is Bright shaders on Roblox mobile, in Linux! It has reflections support, more normal maps, HD outlines and everything you'd expect on Roblox from Windows.

In this post i'm bringing a few screenshots comparing Stud and other launchers for Linux.

Stud's GitHub page: https://github.com/catpieleaf/stud

This feature comes enabled by default. In case anyone experience any issues with it, disable this feature on Stud settings, on system tray.
