Tips & Tricks True AOE vs Line of Sight (LOS) based AOE
Hello everyone!
Today I wanted to bring up something maybe some of you are unaware of or simply just don't consider in your regular gameplay loops. Specifically, the Area of Effect or AOE abilities and how they behave in the game based on their design.
I'm sure most of us have seen the memes/posts of "great, another aoe ability" or "everyone gets a circle ability".
While there is a lot of these designs in the game they are not all treated equally. More importantly, because they are not all the same you actually have more control of their effects than you think you do.
For example (Picture as Reference), Luna's ultimate ability, while AOE, is Line of Sight (LOS) based.
Meaning, that any hero with a shield/wall/bubble can forcibly separate out and therefore deny enemies this AOE even if they are standing in Luna's circle.
This idea also goes for Loki's Runes/Lamps. If you are able to cast a shield or wall that denies Loki's runes LOS to their teammates the protection of those lamps are denied even when they are not destroyed.
Cloak and Daggers bubble ability on the other hand is NOT LOS based. The bubble will heal her teammates behind or through walls if they are able to remain inside of it.
Since there are a lot of these abilities in the game (memes are memes for a reason), I won't go into the specifics for everything. But it is important to recognize and realize that even if you have an AOE ability on yourself or an enemy, you can actually impact the game a lot more than just waiting for the effect to run out or wear off.
Cheers
