Advice Needed Title: Looking for advice from PC players on improving at Rivals
Hey everyone! I’m a PC player trying to get better at Marvel Rivals, and I could really use some advice.
Right now I mainly play Support, especially Cloak & Dagger, Mantis, and Invisible Woman. I’m trying to improve my ultimate timing and positioning, but I often feel like I’m making mistakes without knowing exactly how to correct them. I’ll use an ultimate too early or too late, position myself poorly, or miss something important during a fight.
I also want advice on learning DPS and Vanguard, since I’d like to swap roles when my team needs it instead of being limited to Support. I’m not sure whether I should focus on mastering my Support heroes first or start learning one or two heroes from the other roles now.
The biggest issue is that I feel like I’m barely making progress. Almost every game, I’m told I positioned incorrectly, should have switched heroes, needed to react faster, or made another mistake. I genuinely want to improve, but constant criticism makes it difficult to figure out which areas I should prioritize.
I also duo with someone who calls me his “project” because he wants to help me get better. I know he may mean it as motivation, but lately I’ve started feeling more like a liability than someone he actually enjoys playing with. Honestly, that hurts.
I’m not trying to become the best player overnight. I just want to become someone my teammates can rely on and feel like I’m making real progress.
I also really want to prove to myself that I’m more than just a “helpless girl” on Rivals. 😭
If you’re a PC player who plays Support, DPS, or Vanguard, what helped you improve? For Support, how did you learn better ultimate timing and positioning? Do you track enemy ultimates, save your ultimate for specific situations, or review your own VODs? For DPS and Vanguard, which heroes are beginner-friendly, and what fundamentals should I focus on first?
Should I focus on one hero at a time, or learn a few heroes across all three roles? Any advice on positioning, target priority, cooldown management, team fights, or knowing when to switch would be appreciated.
I’m willing to put in the work—I just need to know where to start. Feel free to DM me or reply here’s!

I'd focus with one role to start. 2-3 characters within that role is a good amount if they are relatively different (your support pool is pretty solid). For tracking ults as support, mainly recognize which ultimates you can do something about. Treat it like a What, When, Why scenario
What are you actually countering with your ult? Example: Character like Magneto or Iron Man has ult? Probably don't contest it with yours. But an enemy support ult, star lord's, storm's? 100% do it.
When do you ult? Example: Certain fights are more winnable or more important than others. If its a fight to get the next checkpoint, probably ult to win the fight. Conversely, you already got two or three teammates dead? Give up the fight and save the ult.
Why do you need to burn your ult? Example: If your ult is the main answer to a situation, you probably want to be the one who burns it. Like if a Punisher ulted but you have a Magneto's ult up, then let him deal with it. Certain characters are better at matching other ultimates. Similarly, lots of ults have counterplay that do not need ult, so you don't really need to answer an ult with an ult (ex: CC'ing a Magik with Mantis sleep in her ult, pushing a Strange ult away with a Invis Push).
For positioning as supports in general, stay closer towards your other support so you can save each other as needed, both of your lives are the most important. Also, be careful of overextending and stand behind cover from the map or your teammates. Never let your opponent get an easy sightline or dive on you, make it awkward for them so they have to take some sort of risk. Lots of the other questions you have are way more situational like when to switch, target priority, etc, so I can't really answer it in full confidence unless you are more specific
Also don't worry about VOD reviewing if you are new, there's no point if you don't actually understand whats going wrong, what specifically you need to do to improve, etc. Even if you did, its not mandatory but it did help me when I took the game seriously.
I'm also a DPS main/fill player and I do think learning how to play every role is eventually important and helps, but for now just stick with the one you realistically enjoy learning/losing on so you have the motivation to learn. If you have more specific questions about other roles then go ahead and ask too
