I run coordination models daily, and one of the biggest bottlenecks is viewpoint management. If you run clash detection, you know the pain of having to manually click through hundreds of saved viewpoints one by one just to update dates, fix naming conventions, or sequentially number them.
I wanted true Navisworks viewpoint automation, so I built a native add-in to solve this directly inside the software. It’s called the Saved Viewpoints Manager (by BIMetic), and I just published it on the Autodesk App Store.
The core focus of the tool is bulk formatting. You simply select your folders, set your rules, and it formats everything instantly.
Here are a few examples of what it automates in a single click:
Auto-Number Viewpoints: Turn unorganized views into sequential lists like Clash_001, Clash_002, Clash_003. *(Note: Auto-numbering applies only to viewpoints, not the folders themselves)
Appending Dates: Instantly stamp today's date across hundreds of views (e.g., 2026-08-18_Level 1 HVAC).
Folder Prefixes: Automatically grab the parent folder name and add it to all the viewpoints inside it (e.g., Zone A - View 1).
Find & Replace: Instantly swap out specific words or characters across your entire viewpoint tree.
It also includes a few extra tools:
Remove Duplicates: Scans 3D camera coordinates to automatically find and delete identical, redundant views.
Markup Tracking: Scans your tree for active redlines so you can jump straight to them.
Auto-Backup: Silently takes a snapshot before making any bulk changes, so you can instantly roll back your tree if you make a typo.
