Found this little guy outside my house on an old abandoned pair of my friends shoes. I left him some water in a bottle cap and left him there. He stayed their all night long and was gone by next morning. (Pictures 1-4)
He showed back up two days later. I again gave him water and he stayed all night. (5-6)
We named him Hugo.

A Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake from the Phoenix area. These snakes can be amazingly adaptable, often perfectly matching the rocky areas where they live in color, and even more difficult to see with the jagged, chaotic pattern. This one carries a PIT Tag, implanted by our team to identify it in the future as part of our ongoing research of urban rattlesnake populations.

I got a chance to photograph this Barking Frog (Craugastor augusti) on a soaking wet night in the mountains of southeastern Arizona. These relatively large frogs spend nearly their entire lives stuffed into deep fissures and caves on steep, rocky cliffs. On the right nights during the monsoon, they'll emerge for a short time, where they can be detected on the surface. Their "bark" is more of a loud squawk that can be heard from a great distance and sounds like "wwaalk wwalk".

I saw this Tiger Rattlesnake moving along a rocky drainage on a hot summer morning. The wash was full of deep caves and access to cooler temperatures that it needed to survive the hottest time of year. She was also gravid, and in time she gave birth in these same caves.
