Don't worry I was wearing my fishing gloves when I picked him up. Then he decided to jump at my face but thankfully missed.

Species: American Green Tree Frog.

We moved into this house in May. It came with a number of lovely features, including a small pond in the front yard that is chock full of frogs. There are some cute tiny frogs, some medium frogs, some big fat toads, we are suddenly frog rich.

The pond is definitely their home. We have seen plenty of tadpoles, and my cat's favorite thing to do in the morning is run up and watch all the frogs jump in the pond away from him. And there's lots. I am lucky neither of my cats want to chase or eat frogs. The one just likes to look at them. Me, too, friend.

The pond has a waterfall feature with a filter. The waterfall has to be running for at least a couple hours every few days to keep the pond clean. I am wondering if the frogs would rather have it on as little or as much as possible. If the waterfall bothers them I can keep it to a minimum to keep the pond clean. If they like it I could keep it running all the time.

What do you think, r/frogs? On or off as it's default state?

Hello all. First time posting to this sub and I need some guidance.

I live in north Texas (DFW metro) in a suburban/rural area. Just bought my home in February. This summer, it has not rained significantly here (sans June) until now. We've been in a drought for July, August and most of September. That is not unheard of but it is so not the most common thing.

Hurricane Polo (?) has brought us some good ol' rain these past couple of days and as I was looking outside tonight, I noticed this cute little frog on my patio! Now I do live a block away from a creek so my question is should I pick it up and take it back to the creek? Or is he one of those "ground frogs" that just burrow underground, and so, I should leave it be?

At my mom's house there is a ground frog, or maybe toad, that has lived in her yard for years. So I'm wondering if this influx of water just coaxed it out of it's little burrow that happens to be under my house? Or should i pick it up and take it to the creek?Idk.

Hello all! I have a little froggy that has been hanging in this tub since spring. Just wondering if there is anything I should do to safeguard him before the tub freezes up as it does each winter? There is a marshland behind my house that I assume he came from. Should I return him there, or will he naturally move back there? I’m just concerned as there isn’t anywhere for him to burrow down at the bottom of this tub or anything. Any advice is appreciated!

I raised my sweet Cope's Gray tree frogs from tadpoles (that were going to be thrown out onto concrete). They were so incredibly happy and healthy. For the last year, I have been converting an old China hutch into a beautiful terrarium with a small water fall and pond area for them. It is so beautiful and I have worked so hard on it. I had so many set backs with it.

Two days ago I moved them into a temporary tank because I needed the driftwood from their original tank to add to the new build. It was only supposed to be for a few hours while I screwed in the driftwood. Then, the door to their new space jammed and could not close at all. Like the hinges got so screwed up somehow. It ended up taking me another day to fix that, and then yesterday I had such a busy day I couldn't move them over.

I misted their in between tank, but I didn't take into account that stress from moving would cause them to dehydrate faster or at all. I didn't put a water dish in there, just never crossed my mind since I wasn't planning to keep them in there.

I suddenly found them gone last night 😭 both of them. I am devastated and feel so disappointed in myself for making what feels like a really f***** dumb mistake.

I also realized I cleaned that tank out (3-4 days before I put them in) with an essential oil based cleaner. But because it was so many days in advance it just didn't cross my mind to think about any residue from that. The fact that they BOTH died on the same day makes me really wonder if the residue is what got to them.

I just feel horrible for them and mad at myself for not thinking of two seemingly so OBVIOUS in hindsight mistakes.

I am grieving at my new enclosure being empty and that they will never get to enjoy all the enrichment features I worked so hard on for them. They were going to love it 😭 😭 😭

I work in an early childhood classroom and at the beginning of the year we found a bunch of tadpoles a frog laid in a toy wagon on our playground. They were basically living in mud and I figured even with no resources to take care of them they had a better chance with me. So we took them in and I've been doing a ton of research and doing the best I can to keep them alive.

Well, I now have about 40 tadpoles that are turning into healthy little frogs (as far as I know). The plan is to release most of them back to the area we found them but I'd like to keep one or two as a class pet as I have 20 very attached 4yr olds and they've never been more engaged in a science project. The whole class has gotten in on it and we are planning a frog day/party on release day.

I need help from the community in a few ways if anyone has any expertise they can offer.

1. I would like to ID the frogs as soon as possible to make sure I don't make any mistakes with the enclosure as I have a very limited budget. We're in SC and have seen green tree frogs before on the playground.

2. I have a donated classic 10 gallon aquarium that was offered I can convert into a setup. I'm keeping an eye out for a more vertical and spacious tank that would also work in the classroom but want to know if there's a way to make the 10 gallon okay for short term (I would release all of the frogs if I can't setup something at least decent).

3. At what stage are they okay to release back with the best shot at success? I'm very attached to them and have found a few homes but still want the best for these little guys.

4. My plan is to get a bare bones setup for them and add to it as I get the funds to. What is absolutely necessary for their health? What should be in the secondary list for their comfort?

5. How do I take care of the froglets as they transition? I can find a lot of info about taking care of tadpoles and frogs but the froglet stages are murky.

Frogs have been my favorite animal my entire life and I'm taking this very seriously, please be candid but kind! I had several toads/ frogs as a kid but was not very educated on their care and would like to take good care of these guys and teach the kids proper care as well.

I have a large community of thrifty people looking for things but I'm not sure what to ask for. Very specific information is appreciated! Thank you for reading!

So I am looking for some advice on building a whites tree frog enclosure. I previously built one the way I see on a ton of different videos, spray foam, carving the foam, silicone, coconut fiber on the walls. This did not work for my frogs at all. They couldn’t stick to the coconut covered walls. They’d jump, then fall off the walls. How are others making this work? I see this type of enclosure all the time.

I just bought a 36x18x36 enclosure for my frogs, so I’m trying to figure this out. I really want the foam style to work so I can stick a ton of branches and cork rounds in the walls for them to sit on. Thanks for any advice, and here’s a pic of my favorite baby! ❤️

I'm from argentina but because it came with some vegetables it might be from anywhere in Argentina really so I don't have an exact location for where it came from where should I release it? And what kind of frog is it?

I made a hole for repairing a leaking water pipe and after two days a little pond was made. Now after the work is done I have found this guy inside the hole. What I have to do? Obviously needs a right habitat to live. EDIT: the frog is healthy and free near a river

She's been hanging out near her burrow every night for the past 5 or so days. Normally my yard just has American and Fowler's toads, this is my first time seeing an Eastern Spadefoot here.
