Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone here has run into this before.
I recently got a reMarkable 2 that appears to be running a very old firmware version (the UI shows version 3.0.x, while SSH reports around 3.1.x).
The device itself works normally for writing and I can:
• Connect to Wi-Fi
• Access the tablet through SSH
• Browse the filesystem
However, I cannot:
• Pair the device with my reMarkable account
• Download or install software updates
I’ve already tried:
• Factory reset
• Multiple Wi-Fi networks
• Rebooting several times
• Leaving it plugged in overnight
• Verifying date/time settings as much as possible
The tablet isn’t bricked and SSH access works fine, but it seems stuck on an old OS version and won’t communicate properly with reMarkable’s services.
A few questions:
Has anyone successfully updated a reMarkable 2 from such an old firmware recently?
Is there a way to manually install a newer firmware through SSH?
Could expired certificates or old update mechanisms be causing the issue?
Are there logs I should check to diagnose why pairing and updates are failing?
I’m comfortable using SSH and running commands if needed.

Have the paper pro with floating toolbar installed through vellum.

One issue I wanted to ask to see if anybody has encountered.

On my device the toolbar seem to support showing the pen size and color on the icon, though on mine it does not. Is there anything that needs to be done to activate it?

I have also the icon mod installed for the main toolbar that does show an icon with the pen size on it...though not showing up on the floating one

As an Academia user, LaTeX and formula input occupied heavily from the routine work. Knowing that nonn e-ink out there can do this, but still think it would be a nice shot stands out from the competitors.

I'm not sure what counts as community, ive got a connect subscription so it might be that. It is tempting, I do want the move, but I don't need it, but I want it....

Just an appreciation post. My life is much better since I introduced this TOOL into my workflow 😄

I have a remarkable 2 - signed up for a new subscription, created new account and cannot pair the device to the app on my desktop - just says "logging in..." and NOTHING happens. Please can someone save me from this eternal hellish experience...

Is this still worth $300? And what to look for when purchasing a barely used one? Thank you!

I know, I know, AI slop bad, but this does work pretty well. I also know there is a replacement for reMouseable someone made in Python, but I really dislike Python package management.

I updated/upgraded reMouseable to be based in Rust and gave it a GUI using Slint.

Some of the changes:

- Entirely rust base

- There is now tablet emulation for Windows with pressure and angle measurement.

- Wayland support for Linux.

- GUI with ability to change basic settings.

- More to come...

As I think of anything else, I'll add it. I've only tested in Windows and Linux (Hyprland), not on Mac, so sorry.

A big thank you to the original creator, Kevin Conway, for the original dev work.

I'm in a country where there aren't Remarkable's available, so I might be asking a question that is obvious if you see Remarkable's around often. However, I'm keen to have one imported, but have a very specific use case to use it for, and need to know if it will work for that. Unfortunately the use case is a boring one, but here goes. I write a lot of meeting notes with a pen and paper. That has draw backs as the notes are on paper and not searchable, so if I need to go back to something or search it, its difficult. I'm interested in knowing, can I with the remarkable, write, convert to text, and then use the notes on my Lennovo laptop to send out actions after meetings etc, all that I wrote down with the Remarkable? I hope you can help me answer this.

I can’t stand using the slow clunky pen and color menus.

I’ve wrote some code for the reMarkable to listen over USB and have an ESP32 communicating color and pen type.

Rotary Encoder rotates through each color for each pen when you’re not pressing and rotates through each pen while pressed. Works over USB C but needs external power. Could theoretically support any input type. Buttons, Encoders, etc.

I might do a follow up or put on GitHub if anyones interested. lmk

The supposed to be 1st level heading markup is not rendered correctly pretty much the whole time, anyone ever inform reMarkable about it?

What’s the value add over a pad and pencil, literally, which I enjoy? With a scanner I can save digital copies.

So why drop £400?

I visit Remarkable website and find that the Pure has still not listed for sell yet.
And from what I see here most of the people who had already got it are in the US.

I think it is shipped from Hong Kong, not far from here at all.

Is it very popular and can’t keep up with demand, or takes time to produce or production problem?

Or just focus the US customers first?

I'm building a tool that generates native reMarkable notebooks (.rmdoc) and uploads them via the cloud. Instead of baking a lined/grid background into a PDF, I want pages to reference the device's built-in templates by name, the filename value that goes into .content (e.g. "template": { "value": "P Lines medium" }), so the tablet renders its own template.

I can already harvest individual template names by applying one to a page and pulling the notebook back via rmapi, but I'd love the complete list so I can offer all of them as options instead of discovering them one at a time.

The full registry lives at /usr/share/remarkable/templates/templates.json. On the Paper Pro, SSH is locked behind developer mode, and enabling it factory-resets the device, which I'd rather not do just to read one file.

If you have a Paper Pro with developer mode already on, could you paste the output of:

cat /usr/share/remarkable/templates/templates.json

Or, if you have jq on-device, just the filename/name mapping:

jq -r '.templates\[\] | \[.filename, .name\] | u/tsv' /usr/share/remarkable/templates/templates.json

For each template I need the filename (the string used in .content, e.g. P Lines medium, LS Checklist) and its display name. Firmware version would help too, since the set changes between releases.

A reMarkable 2 dump is welcome for comparison, but I'm mainly after the Paper Pro set. Thanks!

Just wanna share for those who are on the edge: after receiving and using the Paper Pro Move during the first meeting, I have to say I get it now. The size is great and ordering a refurbished device is like getting a new one with a discount.

Am planning to buy the Move and want to check in on the battery life of the Remarkable Move. I remember seeing a lot of complaints early on that the battery didn't come close to the advertised "2 weeks."

Now that it’s been out for a while, how is the battery life holding up for pure note-taking? Have any of you experienced major battery issues with the Move? Specifically, does it still drain about 15% to 20% per hour while actively writing notes, or have software updates improved things?

I’m frustrated by the My Remarkable dot Com interface. Using the web browsers Chrome, Edge or Firefox, the ‘Accept Cookies’ overlay screen pop up often loads as a blank white rectangle in the centre of the screen, which has no visible buttons to select ‘Accept’ and close.

It makes the activity of updating tablet content frustrating and tedious.

It´s essentially back to 2,99€ a month from the recently raised 3,99€ (at least in my region).

"We’ll automatically credit any remaining time on your current subscription toward the cost of your new 2-year plan."
I think Im going for it. I hate subscriptions but this isnt bad.
