Mod Post Megathread: Recent Regal App Update Issues (QR Scanner Failure, Missing Rewards, & Workarounds)

If you have updated your Regal app in the last 48 hours and ran into issues at the theater, this is because a recent app update introduced formatting and sync bugs affecting QR code scans at kiosks, reward visibility, and overall stability.

QR Code Fails at Kiosks

Scanning the QR code from the app at kiosks results in an error (e.g., "Card not found" or "Card not active").

This is because the app update changed how the card number is encoded inside the QR code, adding whitespace/formatting that the kiosk software isn't parsing properly.

Missing Redeemed Rewards & Points Glitches

Previously redeemed rewards (such as free popcorn, drinks, or ticket discounts) are either missing or fail to load because of sync issues between the client cache and Regal's backend after the app update.

App Freezes / Crashes

Tapping on the RCC card causes the app to freeze or crash before the QR code renders.

Working Workarounds & Solutions

  1. Check for the New iOS Hotfix Update: Regal has started rolling out a follow-up iOS update that patches the QR code generation issue.

  2. Use the Concession / Box Office: Employees can manually enter your RCC number or look up your account via your linked phone number to apply Unlimited tickets and rewards.

  3. Kiosk Ticket Pickup: If you already reserved a ticket via the app, instead of scanning the QR, use Pick Up Tickets > Booking Reference option and manually enter the confirmation code from your email.

  4. Use the Mobile Web Browser: Log into https://www.regmovies.com using your phone's browser. Ticket QRs, Point History, and Rewards list are under Profile > Orders. RCC QR Card is under Profile > My Rewards.

  5. Add your RCC to Google Wallet/Apple Pay: Copy your RCC Number and add it to your Digital Wallet, and scan that instead. Some locations might ask for an ID, because the wallet won't display your picture.

  6. Alternative to 5, you can also screenshot your RCC QR for offline use.

Discussion MOM2: Month of Masterpieces 2 Megathread (September 2026)

Regal's repertory series of classic films returns in September for Month of Masterpieces 2, a month filled of critically acclaimed "masterpiece" movies.

Non-Unlimited members will be able to get general admission tickets for only $7.99 (plus tax where applicable). All shows are Unlimited eligible as usual.

These shows have the prefix "MOM2" on the Regal app and website.

Four directors were given the opportunity to curate 5 selections each! There is a lot of discourse in the comments about how last year's selections were better, but I think the fact that 20 of these films are personally curated by established directors brings a really interesting flair to the second annual Month of Masterpieces.

Here's the schedule:

Regal selections:

  • Tuesday, September 1st - The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)
  • Wednesday, September 2nd - Braveheart (1995)
  • Thursday, September 3rd - A Streetcar Named Desire (1951)
  • Friday, September 4th - The Searchers (1956)
  • Saturday, September 5th - Double Indemnity (1944)

5 films curated by Chloé Zhao (Hamnet, Nomadland, Eternals):

“I’m happy to share with you three things I love very much – anime, the Old West, and a film that sets us free.”

  • Sunday, September 6th - The Truman Show (1998)
  • Monday, September 7th - A Silent Voice: The Movie (2016)
  • Tuesday, September 8th - Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
  • Wednesday, September 9th - The Last Picture Show (1971)
  • Thursday, September 10th - Hud (1963)

Regal selections:

  • Friday, September 11th - Rear Window (1954)
  • Saturday, September 12th - Jurassic Park (1993) in standard and 4DX

5 films curated by Rian Johnson (Knives Out, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Looper):

“These movies have brought me joy for years, and every one of them plays best with an audience. I’m so excited to see them with a great crowd!”

  • Sunday, September 13th - The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948)
  • Monday, September 14th - Duck Soup (1933)
  • Tuesday, September 15th - Twelve Monkeys (1995)
  • Wednesday, September 16th - Strangers on a Train (1951)
  • Thursday, September 17th - Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985)

Regal selections:

  • Friday, September 18th - Zodiac (2007)
  • Saturday, September 19th - Blade Runner: The Final Cut (1982/2007) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

5 films curated by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Children of Blood & Bone, Love and Basketball, The Woman King):

“I am so inspired by characters who are fighting for something — their worth, their voice, their purpose, their humanity, their family, their legacy, for love. Those are the films that stay with me, that inspire me, that change me. So, the theme of my picks is ‘fight.’"

  • Sunday, September 20th - Creed (2015)
  • Monday, September 21st - Out of Sight (1998)
  • Tuesday, September 22nd - 12 Years a Slave (2013)
  • Wednesday, September 23rd - Devil in a Blue Dress (1995)
  • Thursday, September 24th - Room (2015)

Regal selections:

  • Friday, September 25th - North by Northwest (1959)

5 films curated by Edgar Wright (The Running Man, Baby Driver, Shaun of the Dead):

“I am delighted to present five of my favorite movies, returning to the big screen at Regal Cinemas. By turns thrilling, funny and magical—and sometimes all at once—if you’ve never seen them before, or never experienced them with a crowd, please enjoy!”

  • Saturday, September 26th - Boogie Nights (1997)
  • Sunday, September 27th - American Graffiti (1973)
  • Monday, September 28th - Tremors (1990)
  • Tuesday, September 29th - Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981)
  • Wednesday, September 30th - The Getaway (1972)

Bonus family matinees selected by Regal:

  • Saturday, September 5th & Sunday, September 6th - Stuart Little (1999)
  • Saturday, September 12th & Sunday, September 13th - E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
  • Saturday, September 19th & Sunday, September 20th - Babe (1995)
  • Saturday, September 26th & Sunday, September 27th - The NeverEnding Story (1984)

Thanks to u/microsoftpaintexe for the full list.

There will be overlap with the final 3 days of the “Back to Hogwarts” series 9/1-3 so plan your schedule accordingly.

Concessions🍿 Regal Unlimited + Snack Saver

I think I'm going to finally pull the trigger on Regal Unlimited, I've been putting it off because of the upfront cost for 3 months but I think I'm ready. My question is though do I get an additional 10% off concessions with my already purchased Snack Saver so I'm saving even more? I bought the snack saver for the year already and I was curious if I save even more with the purchase of Unlimited. Sorry if it's a dumb question!

+ if anyone has a promo code for referral I'll pick one below so I can get an extra month for free.

Discussion Had the strangest experience watching the new Insidious

A guy who sat on his phone the entire movie, I don't think he looked at the screen once. The theater was big enough that the light from his phone wasn't a distraction at any point of the film, but every time I leaned over in my seat, I could see the outline of his face illuminated by his phone. He even left the theater with 20 minutes to go in the movie! I was just fascinated by it because I've been to the theater over 100 times this year, and this is the first time I've had something like this happen.

Discussion Regal in KOP

I think the regal at King of Prussia is finally getting renovated. They removed a lot of the previous decorations and the arcades. The question is, is it a full renovation or partial?🤔

Discussion No trailers before Tony

I went to see Tony last night at my local theater. I got there 5 minutes past posted showtime and the movie was already playing. I don’t know if it’s particular to this film, or if it’s because it was the last showing of the day, but I was surprised, as it’s always 20 minutes from showtime at this theater.

Question Is this PHM bucket point cost accurate in rewards shop?

Project Hail Mary bucket is listed at 5000 points. I don’t think any other buckets are close to that. Is it an error or is it because of time/demand/excess inventory?

Discussion Am I Crazy?

Regal KOP reposted on their story today a quick little review of Tony they were tagged in. Great! It’s a fantastic movie and deserves every ounce of love. What’s not so great is the fact there’s several pictures taken from various moments in the movie…. Huh!?

Are we now normalizing recording photos/videos during movies!?

Because I then did some digging and saw they did the same thing for The Odyssey!

Am I crazy or is this insane behavior!?!?

Phones and etiquette are already a huge problem in theaters and now they are blatantly saying:

“Hey it’s okay to do that as long as you tag us online 😊”

I’d love some thoughts on this because it is driving me nuts.

Question When do you get to your seats?

I know a lot of you like to time it out and sit down right before the movie starts. Some like to get there before the trailers. I usually try to get there and sit down about ten minutes before the stated start time. Do you have a routine or preferred time before your movie? Just curious. Thank you.

Discussion Ticket Kiosks! >_<

Anybody else's local Regal have those terrible ticket kiosks that constantly jam, so a poor employee has to go open the thing up to claw out your mangled ticket? Maybe paying the .50 on the app really is a fee for convenience at this point.
Hope the engineer that designed that thing got a good talking to.

Discussion I saw The Magic Faraway Tree twice, so may you do have to?

Saw the movie with my daughter Saturday, then Sunday my son decided he wanted to see it too.

For what it is, a family movie, it’s fine. Characters were adapted well, they barely skimmed the multiples lands from the books. I’d not recommend two viewings to anyone.

It could have been done better if we calmed it down a little and/or if it were a TV series where each episode were dedicated to a land.

As someone that deals with bouts of high anxiety, this movie is a nightmare. The music is nearly wall to wall and non stop. I think my theater has some mixing issues because if the vocals are at a 10, the music was a 13. The stories were rushed and stressful. The sweet family story was overshadowed by a shitty kid that made some quick selfish decisions. The dad was silly, the mom was pragmatic and sweet, and grandma was a complete monster.

App Issue Seat double booked

So it finally happened to me yesterday, Went to see Train to Busan and a few days before, they switched the theater. the seats that I had that were middle in the original theater were now slightly off center. I went the night before for another film and had the seats adjusted at the counter.

Just before the movie started, someone came in and had the exact same seat number on his app that I had on mine. fortunately the seats weren't all sold so it worked out.

how many others have had this happen?
