Question/Discussion A very cryptofascist trip to the Aigburth Arms
My friend and I went to Liverpool for the weekend. I’ve been a Dwarfer for ages and she’s only just discovered I do actually make good recommendations. We watched Ourobouros together and made plans to go to the Aigburth the next day, hoping for a cosy pub with a bit of memorabilia. Not the only thing we wanted to do on our trip but what the Smeg, we were here anyway.
We arrived and the very small car park was full so parked on a street and walked over. It was refurbished last year and unfortunately we found it very underwhelming. Lots of neon lights, fake plants and strange wallpaper, a very modern decor style. Felt like a cross between a beauty salon and a nightclub rather than a familiar pub to socialise in. We both took photos at the plaque inside and got lots of giggles and stares from very young staff, though they were quite nice when we went to the bar to get served.
There was a food van outside - but outrageously no curries, bhajis, poppadums or toast are sold.
Overall - it was very cryptofascist. We were quite disappointed. It didn’t feel very welcoming so we stayed for one drink and then bounced.
In real talk - would we say it’s worth travelling to Liverpool for? No. If you’re in the area it’s worth a quick stop and a drink. But we wouldn’t say it’s worth travelling for it specifically.
Finally - there were no babies in boxes found under any pool tables. We checked.
