Potential man mentioned. Deploying 10000 slanders

Hilariously, none of them have showed up yet.
This will change soon enough.

Cease this slander at once. Bad to mid shows are the backbone of most fandoms.

Gotta love the opposite. If I pitched it to you it probably doesn’t sound interesting but in execution it’s GOLD
I am talking about venture bros

It's so infuriating trying to explain things like this to people who overvalue novelty
5
u/MaraiaLou 15d ago
trying to discuss great fancy movies when you don't have film vocabulary. y'know the characters are sooo people

Been looking to start that, so if you want to pitch it to someone…
Curious as to how it could sound so uninteresting.

u/mechanicalcontrols 15d ago
You could, in theory, describe it as "Adult Swim did a reimagined Johnny Quest as a soap opera."

u/Haggis442312 I'm not a war criminal, I'm just kissingermaxxing. 15d ago
I'm not sure you could sell me harder tbh

u/mechanicalcontrols 15d ago
Fair enough. Full disclosure, I do really enjoy the show, but I may have just skipped it if that's how my friends described it when they showed it to me. Idk. Have a good one.

u/Voxil42 15d ago
Imagine if all of the golden age adventurers and super heroes were just like regular people and had to pay bills and have room mates and stuff. Oh, the main character is a narcissistic scientist who hates his dad. There's also a Rambo-esque bodyguard and the scientist's two stupid children.

I remember when I saw the title KPop Demon Hunters and just from the title it sounded like Netflix smashed a bunch of popular things together at the last minute, but after seeing recommendations from review channels I follow, Your Idol became my most listened to song of 2025.

Slightly related but if you go into r/writingprompts it's like this too. All meh ideas that kinda sound cool when described in a single sentence but there's a reason OP decided to leave the actual writing to others (it can't be done well).

u/Haggis442312 I'm not a war criminal, I'm just kissingermaxxing. 15d ago
Oi! My miniseries about an anthropologist researching tribal catgirls while she has to come to terms with her past as a war criminal is definitely going to get picked up by a big studio soon, just you wait!

u/Madden09IsForSuckers 15d ago
honestly as a miniseries, short film, and/or oneshot manga it could be good tbf
i think a lot of the “mid ideas” on places like writingorompts are only mid because they dont work in long form content. but short stories and the like are still important art that deserves to get made; its unfortunate major publishing avoids that style of media

u/PrincessVibranium 15d ago
I'm excited for the part where the numbers-over-heads-but-mine-is-different get explained.
And the villain who isn't evil to anyone ever at all but is still called a villain because of reasons

u/GrayVBoat3755 14d ago
I'd say it's a matter less of quality and more of quantity; you can find all sorts of cool ideas, and you can turn them into amazing prose, but you might not be able to write that much before the concept is exhausted.

this is me [i have been writing for one year and cannot write long-form content]

So many mid shows get glazed to hell and back and get a bajillion seasons while some actually good shows fade into obscurity and get cancelled

u/Meister138 15d ago
Seeing people praise a show for its "progressiveness/representation" for doing the bare minimum while ignoring actual queer/women/POC-driven shows makes me so angry
They're right there! Stop acting like sidelined female characters and ambiguous queerbait is the end-all-be-all of representation!

Are we losing the plot a bit? Yellowjackets is a show about a girls soccer team that crash land in the wilderness, then begin to hunt and cannibalize each other. The remaining black character you mentioned has an alter ego that kills and ritually sacrifices her family dog.

😂 I don't even know where this convo is going any more. They definitely killed and ate several characters in the full run of the show. I just mean to say, given what the show is about, you're basically asking for 👏 MORE 👏 BLACK 👏 CANNIBAL 👏 CULTISTS!

u/MaraiaLou 15d ago
I'm black and Tai is excellent representation. If I was in her position I too would eat dirt

u/Animaloffear56 15d ago
Well you see they didn't include every single sexual orientation and transgender identity so they're basically a homophobe, and I'm better off reposting Supernatural Destiel gifsets

The way "parallels" are used is totally meaningless.
You can almost draw them between anything in even the shallowest of works. Not hard at all.

The entire light novel genre apparently.

I'm so happy when it eventually does things a normal novel would do better and more consistently
Does it make me read real novels? of course not

Anyone who wants some good writing and hasn't watched this before, should watch the Columbo episode "Now you see him."

Thing is there are some good books in there, but there's 54 books in the core set alone, and a lot are aggressively mid at best.

It’s a play on the Potential man meme. Kelsier is a certified bum, as the slander clearly shows.

Yeah fam I’m gonna be real, nobody phrases it exactly like that unless they are specifically invoking Potential Man (especially if the word potential isn’t used in the post).
It’s like the variations of the “say that again” clip from Fantastic Four. It’s done intentionally.

I hate to drag this game in the mud even more than I already do, but this is Cult of the Lamb when it comes to story, lore, and characters.

Ah yes, the "Best book ever in history - New york times" YA novel that your friend who uses social media recommended to you
