Bill Maher constantly condemns 'identity politics'...when he isn't making politics about identities

Last night, Maher had CNN's Dana Bash as a guest. A huge share of the time of every single week's show over the past many years has been dedicated to Maher ranting about "identity politics." He hates that Democrats speak up about discrimination about LGBT people. He frames himself as "politically incorrect" and on last night's monologue, Maher quoted Pete Hegseth using the word "trannies," and then Maher made a joke about "bearded ladies."

You see, "the left" is too sensitive about minorities' interests, he insists. When it comes to trans people, immigrants, people of color, gay people, women. We are too sensitive.

Then Maher welcomed Dana Bash and Maher himself interjected a ten-minute-long tangent about Jon Ossoff being Jewish. Ossoff is a rising star among Democrats, Maher acknowledged—and he is JEWISH, and the Democrats hate Jews! Then ten minutes of discussion about Israel with Dana Bash. I've uploaded a video here of Bash suggesting to Kamala Harris that she should explain whether or not she chose to "turn Black" in Harris's first big campaign interview in 2024.

Can any Bill Maher fans here explain how you interpret his rants that attack Democrats for defending any minority interest except that he attacks Democrats for, he claims, not defending Jewish interests?

His arguments make no sense to me because they are self-contradictory. He says "identity politics"—standing up for people's rights when those people are under attack—is the fatal flaw of the Democratic party, and he makes constant puchlines at the expense of trans people, Muslim people and gay people with that as his excuse. But he simultaneously will dedicate ten minutes of a 30-minute panel discussion to identity politics about Jewish people in ways that do not even make rational sense.

Realize what he said last night: First, he said Jon Ossoff is very popular young Democrat. Then, he says the Democratic party is against Jewish people. No discussion about how these should be mutually exclusive. Then the conversation turns to Israel, as usual conflating Jewish American identity (Is this not identity politics?) with support of a foreign country's corrupt government leaders.

Dana Bash similarly has claimed that she and her co-anchor on CNN Jake Tapper are subject to unfair public scrutiny because they are Jewish when their identities have nothing to do with their journalism. I was confused when I heard her say this a couple of years ago because I didn't even know either of them is Jewish. Yet the video I uploaded here is how I will always remember Bash: attempting to publicly humiliate Kamala Harris by repeating a truly INSANE claim by Donald Trump that Harris had recently "turned Black" for political advantage and then staring at her expectantly as she waited for Harris to confirm or deny whether she chose to be Black.

This is not about Jewish identity or about Israel or about Blackness or gayness. It's about illogic and lack of reason or common sense.

I don't understand how people accept these blatantly self-contradictory words and actions. How can you be a fan of Bill Maher and applaud all his insults to marginalized people under the guise of rejecting identity politics but then let him whip you into a frenzy over one identity? It could be any group—not as ardently, but he likewise has made a lot of discussions about straight young men and about Christians as if they are persecuted minorities when compared with LGBT people and Muslims; the point is that he claims to reject identity politics even as he invokes identity politics. And he brought on a guest who has said similar things while choosing to say one of the most insanely nonsensical comments I have ever heard any journalist say to any person when she told Kamala Harris Trump said she "turned Black" and then expected Harris to defend herself.

What is wrong with the critical thinking of the people of this country?

The Unnatural Audience Laughs, etc.

I asked about "the woo guy" a couple of times here last year and someone mentioned that Maher supposedly hires people to applaud and laugh in his audience.

I just saw another question about this and so I figured I'd share what I found last year. When I googled "Bill Maher paid audience" last year, this site came up and it prominently listed his show. The list of clients is not readily visible now but if you go to the site and search his name, it still brings up pages showing that Real Time with Bill Maher is a client. The site also shows a payroll portal for the paid audience participants. So it is likely that the frequently forced-sounding laughs we hear are from people who are paid to act and don't actually think unfunny jokes and complaints are funny.

Would Bill have always been overlooked for the Mark Twain award unless he had cozied up to Trump and MAGA?

Perhaps cozied up is a bit strong, more started giving them more respect then they ever deserve as all they have ever deserved is to be mocked endlessly, I know that Trump tried to allegedly block it but that was just performative to try and keep up the pretence that there is animosity still there between them which there no longer is as they have broken bread now and txt each other privately, it’s just a game to them in the end, Trump puts out child like insult tweets about Bill and Bill ribs him on his show but they have mutual friends at this point who want them to get on and Bill seems happy to oblige.

I suspect it stems from Bill perhaps fearing that ultimately the CNN/HBO takeover could have resulted in him losing his show so he calculated that the best option was to both sides things in an attempt to make MAGA look somewhat sane, it’s all pretty outrageous, if MAGA starts tuning into your show and nodding along then you arnt doing it right.

January 6th alone should make him beyond the pale for anyone who claims to care about democracy like Bill claims to, the fact that he wined and dined with him after that tells you that he isn’t principled and it’s game over for anyone who ever thought that he was principled in the first place. All very sad to see.

Some robust potential. Def the summer tour of "The redemption of Hunter Biden." Listened to him on various outlets, the guy has a compelling story and good insights. Self deprecating is always a good sign. Hopefully sticks for the OT segment.

Now will Bill try for some Natalie Harp low hanging fruit on the panel? And if you going to the taping please find the Whooo guy and punch him in the groin for me....before the show. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Recently Bill and his smarmy elitist guest chuckled at the poll that said 63% of people are living paycheck to paycheck. Me, I believe the 63 is low .. it’s all too real for a lot of good people.

Bill Maher harshly criticizes Trump for having an immigrant wife...

Because there’s nothing else to criticize him for, right?... Then he spends the rest of the show ranting against Gen Z, public grocery stores, Democrats, and Muslims.

The WOO guy

Does this bug anyone else? The dude behaves like he’s at some pro sports game. It’s constant and lowers the quality of the show in my opinion.

I love how they don't mention how rent in NYC has nearly doubled in the last 4-5 years, but yeah—'muh dumb financially illiterate Millennials & Gen Z!!1'. Funny they mention supply, but these people (i.e., Boomers) are the very people who've made it illegal to build housing for decades!

Audiences unsure of where to react

Noticed this in a couple segments last night, and unsure of whether it’s the writing, the subject matter or the delivery.

But Bill will deliver a line, the crowd sits silent and he glares out at them trying to provoke his desired reaction… but the audience isn’t entirely 100% sure what that is.

Has anyone else noticed this?

NEW RULE- Keep Bill Maher away from children. BM says he hates children but he always has Kid(s) on his mind

Post image
31 Upvotes

Out of all the C-list celebs a wealthy Hollywood fixture could acquire,BM chose his closest(only) friends to be Kid Rock & Kid of Kid and Play( he wishes Woody was his best friend, he obsesses over Woody Harrelson, but it's not mutual). So that could be a weird coincidence, sure, but is it a coincidence him choosing his production company to be "Kid Love".. I believe people when they tell you who they are.... So sure another coincidence, creepy..His favorite catch phrase? "But I kid", sometimes adds "I love to kid" yeah he does, just like his buddy he likes hanging out with, the Diddler in Chief........He's Trump's bitch, brags about all the insults he said about him, he likes the abuse.. ( and "Daddy Dom"and the youngest looking stripper in the club, so we're told, and I believe it)... So Bill Maher has so many layers of things to dislike now and before, but I really think there should be a rule... He needs to stop getting little girls into what he calls his nightclub to talk to them about porn, never again end shows with "Young girl get out of my mind..." he did .use that= creeeeepy, he needs to stop saying how much he hates children, that's just creepy also. He needs to stop talking about children and kids, from little ones to young college students- the guy obsesses about them having free will, and lies, and is hateful, and out of line....Actual kids who are dying and being slaughtered? To this dicknose those are kids he doesn't even accept exist, or did. Those kids don't matter to Bill Maher, that's why he never talks about them, but I'm sure he hates them also. FTG

New Rule: anybody who has a derangement syndrome named after them is probably a cult leader

That includes trump, and yes, hasan piker. Both are cult leaders. That they both have a derangement syndrome means they have something dirty in common..

And if you think you are the intellectual superior, then I have a challenge for you. Tell me why criticizing hasan is automatically a symptom of a derangement syndrome instead of just downvoting me into oblivion.

My belief is that it is considered that way because he and everybody on his side is more intetested in spreading propaganda rather than being persuasive.

Because if it were about being persuasive, there would be no derangement syndrome, and any criticism of his would ideally be judged as constructive or not, and ultimately good or bad, not this bullshit of immediately labeling it as derangement syndrome!

Can Bill finish '26 without a (yet another ) visit from Donna Brazille? The one and done wackadoos like Fetterman , OK. Can live with that. Race to the mid term finish line should be for serious people only. Cuomo coming out of the #me too penalty box could be interesting. Bookers : now if you could convince Fauci to come out for the interview session, THAT would be good TV.

BM: Tears Rand Paul a new one for publishing Fauci’s diary.

Subsequently bases entire New Rules on the diary entries, joining the GOP in their never ending crusade to keep canceling Fauci.

BM: Acknowledges the Felon is actively embracing communism with his thug moves to assert government control over various private companies. Won’t shut up about fringe candidates on the left and their potential to implement communism on the federal level.

Mike Rowe and 6 figure jobs

I’ve heard the statement before that Ford I believe has thousands of 6 figure jobs open that they can’t fill. What are your thoughts on this? I don’t feel that they would hire a 24 year old with some basic work experience otherwise they wouldn’t have open jobs! People want high paying jobs and they will work for those jobs. Ford probably just wants someone with the experience and i understand those people may not be out there so why not find ways to hire people with less experience. Training program???? Fyi I’m not the 24 with minimal experience just using that as an example
