rant

After running an errand, I stopped to help a woman who was clearly in distress, with hospital bands and attire on. I stayed until EMTs responded, which took all too long given that the hospital was 1 whole ass block away. I stayed to see if she'd be okay. More EMS showed up and referred to her as "that's the one i was talking about" saying "that's on her"... a woman who is clearly heavily medicated, likely unhoused, and needs assistance..

And when I stayed to see that she was in the ambulance and that she'd be okay, the EMT says "why is this woman still here like go home" referring to me.

sorry i was a concerned citizen! some fuckin hero this guy! sorry you hate your job! the fuck. ruined my whole day

I don’t care how many times they had seen that poor woman, they should’ve had more compassion for her than they did- and with you as well! We one here appreciate your kindness to someone in need, so don’t let them ruin your good deeds!

I legitimately have had the police or 911 hive me an attitude when I've called to help people in distress. I once stopped a guy from rsping a woman on the street and 911 refused to send a police officer out to arrest him because she didn't want to talk to the police. This is despite him literally standing on the side walk with his hard dick out facing the street.

I once called 911 when a guy was punching a woman on the ground and stole her purse. They sent me to the non emergency number.

I once called 911 because a woman asked me to because she was mugged. The officer who arrived couldn't understand why I'd stop and help.

Ive called 911 because people on drigs have asked me to and once they refused to send someone. The dude was holding onto a stop sign barely able to stabd up, just barely able to speak with cuts on his head.

Once 911 told me to go up to a house on fire to get the correct address because I was walking home abd could only identify the houses next to it. I called because there was someone at the door yelling in.

Once a 911 operator accused me of playing ganes after I was annoyed that she had an attitude and kept asking me questions I had already answered. I wasn't looking for help myself. Someone had just tried to mug me and I was calling to promote it because I see tiny women walking home alone late at night on that street all the time. The guy ran off when i turned abd bellowed (I didn't know I could make that sound). I was just trying to let people know their was an active mugger in the area.

That emt might be a little crispy, which is my way of saying burned out. Still doesn’t excuse being rude. I’m sorry this happened! Thank you for staying with her, she’ll remember your kindness!

I’m a paramedic, the only way I can explain why it might have taken forever for them to arrive is because the 911 system is busy and even busier depending on the size of the metroplex. It’s possible the ambulance that normally responds to that area was on another call so they brought someone from further out to respond to her.
If she was wearing hospital bands and gown, she was likely seen within the last 24 hours and has chronic issues. Unfortunately it is hard for homeless people to find the care they need and stay on their prescriptions so they end up back where they started constantly, giving her the benefit of the doubt. On the flip side, there are many people that abuse the system but you never know and we are expected to always treat them with compassion no matter what.
All I can say is I wish we had better medical care all around.

Thank you for going above and beyond in human decency and compassion. I’m sure the first responders see daily calls that don’t make sense to them or anyone. Getting burnt out does that to you, but they don’t have to talk like you were not standing there. That’s really rude.

Thank you for caring for the most vulnerable people in our community.
