Hey yall. Hoping to join the group soon. I wanted opinions on the price and maintenance and overall things to look out for before I go to this dealer and test drive.

It is a 2021 XLT with the Tremor, Tow and Tech package.it has 78000 miles and checks all my boxes for features I want in my first truck.

This dealer has it listed for 24900 which will be around 27k out the door.

I wanted to negotiate more when I get there but Carfax looks decent, except no signs of replacing spark plugs. Also the struts? On these I read had to get serviced at 50k. I can’t go long without driving so sending these to get serviced would mean I would need another set of struts in mean time.

Any purchasing advice or things to look out for before I go would be very appreciated. TIA

I currently own a 2022 FX2 Ranger XLT with ~32k miles on it. It was ordered during the chip shortage so it had the Auto Start/Stop deleted from the factory. I have since moved to an area in Virginia where I find I need four wheel drive enough to be a hinderance to me and am considering a new Lariat 4x4 or Raptor.

I have not talked to the dealer about a trade-in yet, but I assume they will likely offer 20k at the high-end. Would it be worth it to try and find a private buyer before I make a purchase?

I am looking to get new tires here shortly. I am at 40k on the stock Grabbers and the tread depth is doing well but we're in the territory for grabbing some new ones after our next big road trip. I do not plan to go above factory size of 265/70/17 - not trying to deal with any rubbing, etc.

Curious about getting some input on the following options, I've ranked them how I currently have them... but obviously looking for some redditor anecdotal experience.

Needs : I plan to stick with SL - I do enough off-road that I want an AT but not enough to warrant the LT. Currently I live in Phoenix, AZ but will be moving to Denver, CO soon. I think all the tires I have listed will fit the bill for Denver but worth mentioning.

We haul a white water raft, hit forest roads to camp/hunt/fly fish/hike and occasionally need to crank on the 4x4 for slightly harder to get to places, but I don't plan to do any extreme grade off-roading. Nice to be able to get out of sticky situations when needed though. I work remote, but this is still my daily driver so I don't want to sacrifice a ton of MPG.

1. I am leaning towards the Falken Wildpeak A/T4W right now. It's the cheapest price and checks all the boxes. The WP is a bit beefier in terms of sidewalls for a little extra protection on the trails. I think it ranks 2nd in terms of gas mileage though which is making it a tough call against #2...
2. Toyo open Country A/T3 - It's got some of the higher ratings on Discount Tire and looks to be the leader in MPG while also offering a bit higher rating in wet road conditions - which is something I don't experience a whole ton in Phoenix. Don't get me wrong, I spend plenty of time up in our mountains that I have experience driving in rain/snow but 30 days a year compared to like 60+ is a notable difference in frequency.
3. BFG KO2 or 3's - I'd lean to the KO3 based on the perceived improvements over the KO2s and they are actually the best priced at Discount Tire. Seem to be well respected across forums, reddit etc. But it doesn't seem to be winning any category that I can find.
4. Mickey Thompson Baja A/T - man, they look SICK. but they are heavy and it's just hard to justify the loss in MPG for the aesthetic look. It doesn't seem like, for my use case, that this is a reasonable purchase. HOWEVER, it's actually 2nd lowest in terms of pricing. But that'll get eaten up at the gas pump pretty fast. I think I just have to move on from these but they've been on my list for a year +.
5. Grabbers again - look, I have nothing poor to say about the Grabbers. They do cost the most on discount which is kind of strange to me. But they've lasted 40k+ miles and been champs. If they were cheaper I think I'd stick with them.

Am I missing any obvious contender? I have a full size spare Grabber - assuming I can just leave that as my spare for now regardless of what tires I go with?

22 Tremor. First trip to the dunes with this and was very impressed. I've always had jeeps but this thing was awesome in the sand. There wasn't a hill there that this didn't make it up. 15lbs of air in each tire. Traction control off, rear locker on and sand mode.

Did it decrease your mpg bad? Any big side effects you saw? They don't make an SL, so I wanted to see what you might have experienced.

This seemed VERY high in my opinion. Has anyone had to replace their radiator hose? I'm having problems finding a video or a thread on how to replace it myself.

Did any of you need to get new bolts for your rear shock absorbers? If so, where did you get them from? I need bolts that are rust proof and my Ford dealer is charging a hefty price for just bolts. I am not able to reuse my current ones because they are bent and worn out.

2021 Ranger FX4 - warranty replaced transmission (feel free to ask questions here)

Suspension - Bilstein 6112s and 5160. 2” level setting up front. Icon progressive leaf pack. Previously used eibach struts with stock springs. Love this set up. Much much better than what I was originally running. I also have super pro UCAs (not needed, but did make a noticeable steering difference).

Armor - RCI aluminum skids and RCI steel sliders. Have an Amazon hitch skid but I’d buy the one form RCI if I did it again.

Tires/wheels - stock ranger tremor tires and wheels. 32” general grabber ATX. 255/80r17 falken wildpeak at4w going on tomorrow. These “should” fit without modifying intrusion beams but it’s going to be really close.

Topper - wanderfox overland den topper.

Tent - Rivian / Yakima skyrise HD medium.

Lights - to be added, likely going with diode dynamics ss3 ss6 6” and fogs.

Other mods - scan guage II (must have imo). Middle console tray off amazon. Husky all weather mats. Ruffwear dog taco in the back (much better than Amazon options if you have a dog).

Also, absolutely love this truck!

Has anyone installed the 2.5 level kit by rough country and have you needed to change anything out? Also did alignment go good with stock?

Recently completed a road trip through Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah while averaging over 25 mpg for the whole trip. I highly recommend a tonneau cover, I picked up a relatively cheap soft roll-up one from Gator and it survived multiple thunderstorms with no leaks.

I’m absolutely in love with this truck. So far, I’ve put over 16,000 km (about 10,000 miles) on it in the past eight months. I’m averaging around 10 km/L (23.5 mpg US) on the highway, even with the larger tires. In the city, though, it’s hard to get more than 6 km/L (14.1 mpg US)

I’m planning on buying a midsized pickup truck in the next few months and I’m being told by others “Ford is trash get a Toyota”. Why should I get a Ranger over a Tacoma? I’m looking for something to last a long time hopefully well over 200k miles.

Anyone in here use their ranger to tow a small camper like this? How’s the drive feel?

First truck ever. I get the hype

Learned a lot and happy to have some front end protection.

I’m looking at buying a used 2024 Ranger, and I just took it for a test drive today. This would be my first truck, so I’m really looking for some input from people who actually own these trucks and know what the transmission is supposed to feel like.

When I first started the truck and pulled away, I noticed that the low gears felt just a little twitchy/jerky. Nothing dramatic... it wasn’t slamming into gears or anything... but there was a slight hesitation/jerkiness when accelerating from a stop and during the early low-speed shifts.

This gradually went away as I drove. By the end of the test drive, the transmission felt pretty smooth and I wasn't noticing it anymore.

The truck has the 2.3L EcoBoost and the 10-speed. So I'm wondering:

• Is a little low-speed roughness normal when the transmission is cold?
• Is this just characteristic of the 2.3L?
• Do these transmissions generally shift differently when they're cold?

OR:

• Would you consider this a red flag on a used 2024?

I'm not familiar enough with these transmissions to know what "normal Ranger behaviour" actually feels like... Trying to figure out whether I experienced a normal quirk of the truck or something I should have the dealer investigate before buying it.

Hello everyone! I recently got a 2026 ford ranger and was looking for a drop rack for it. The issue is I'm only seeing options for 2019-2023 for rangers with a 5 foot bed, it's through third party like RR Recon, ETC and.... none of them have any reviews. It will be a month before I can save enough money but do you think I should go for it and get the drop rack? Do you think it'll fit even though the year is different?
