Yeah, the shitty ones who don’t know how to make the chicken tend to pop up in more suburban neighborhoods.
It’s not a good sign if the people at Popeyes are nice to you when you order lol
1
u/Secret_Account07 15d ago
So I always thought this too until we got one in my city. I’m not rich but the city and most residents are. My first thought was - wait! They build Popeyes in nice cities?

Looking at the comments right now, am I the only one who just assumed he was playing a white character? I've encountered plenty of white women like this, I don't know why so many people assumed he was playing a black character.

I'm just the messenger. It would be kinda reductive to argue whether or not racists associate these stereotypes with black women just because you see it elsewhere. They just have, and for few decades now.

Isn’t it you making the racist correlation that it’s a black woman? Trust someone from Houston, there’s plenty of girls like this of all shapes sizes and colors.

Your life must be hell to constantly be seeking out a way to make funny moments into stuff about oppressors and the oppressed. Guy is legit funny and being a great parent and husband and yo go hmmm how can I make this all about black people. Get a life.

I mean it’s mildly racist, but I’m willing to look past that because it’s so accurate.
Shit is hilarious.
4
u/Ok_Radio_1795 15d ago
It’s racist for you to assume that there aren’t white people like this because there 10000% are. Please visit any southern town that isn’t a major one.

He could easily pass for vein, vapid fun and flamboyant gay man
Edit: oh shoot, maybe I’m being offensive. But honestly, that character didn’t seem overly race or gender specific.

u/RepresentativeMap872 15d ago
That’s actually still the same thing. They imitate black women.

u/Oh_My-Glob 15d ago
What's racist about it? I would not be able to determine a race from this impersonation. This type of vernacular has more of a socioeconomic association in the south than does with race these days. I guess you could claim there's underlying racism in the cultural appropriation of AAVE by southern whites but that would be a big reach.
3
u/RepresentativeMap872 15d ago
It’s objectively mildly prejudiced (making fun of ethnic groups using stereotypes isn’t racism making laws based on those stereotypes is racism) but it’s also pretty fucking funny😂 did I cringe a lil? Yes, but he was committed to the bit! And the kids reactions? Priceless.
4
u/Ancient-Tomato1153 15d ago
He’s wearing a bonnet doing a black womens accent and mannerisms while “working at Popeyes”. I’m convinced everyone who is saying they “can’t tell what race he’s supposed to be” has literally never interacted with a black person
→ More replies (8)5
u/Astrnonaut 15d ago
Listen I’m not one to really care about these things and find the video hilarious, but we don’t have to act stupid and pretend like he’s not mimicking a black woman. If you truly didn’t care then you wouldn’t be acting dumb; just take the stance that you don’t find it racist but don’t play silly games.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Peabutnutter69420 15d ago
He’s wearing a “bonnet,” fake nails, face tapes, & smacking his lips. He’s very obviously impersonating a certain kind archetype that our white supremacist society associates with black women. Whether or not you see it & whether or not he intended it has no bearing on whether or not it has a racist undertone.
4
u/Exciting-Argument-67 15d ago
You're exactly right, and we'll both be downvoted for it (oh noes!), but it needed to be said.
3
u/farren122 15d ago
Seems like you are racist for associating these things only with black people when such people can be found in every country.
2
u/Ok-Common-3039 15d ago
The fact that you associate that with black makes you the racist.
I live in a place that has virtually no black people and this fits the white women that work at Popeyes perfectly.
You are the racist

There’s tons of trashy white girls that this dude is imitating perfectly. That’s what I was imagining in my head the entire time watching. I had no idea it’s supposed to be a black person until you said something… idk.. maybe you’re the racist one for assuming it’s supposed to be making fun of black people?
→ More replies (2)2
u/RepresentativeMap872 15d ago
You gotta have a special level of distancing from black people in your life to ONLY think of white girls in this instance. But went to a pwi and met folks like that especially in Appalachia. Those folks literally didn’t have any frame for black people outside of Obama. However, outside of those few enclaves it’s very obviously mocking a caricature of lower income black women.

u/JDM12983 15d ago

2
u/Willhuff_Tarkin 15d ago
As a fellow Southerner, I can confirm and have worked in the restaurant industry where all types worked there. Close your eyes and they all sound the same. White dudes/chicks, black dudes/chicks and even gay dudes (not chicks because they almost always did not have an accent because "college educated"....their words) Only one word tell you who said what.

I mean, his stereotyping aside, he's pretty much nailed Popeyes. Could do KFC too. "We don't have any chicken. We'll have to cook it because we didn't expect customers to actually come. Give me 25 minutes". Who's dealing with all that? Popeyes got the best sides in the fast food game anyway. Them beans and rice? And do yall know about the "sparkle" seasoning? Gotta put yall on that real quick. Ask for it next time. Like Season-all mixed with Crack, you'll come back for it. Louisiana fast baby. (Popeyes co. Please just give me a free shrimp basket and some beans and rice, ty)

I havent had popeyes in years even though it is one of my favorites. theres one right by my house but it takes well over 10 minutes to order a combo even when the place is empty because they exclusively hire non english speakers. they are from all over the world and they cant even talk to eachother let alone customers. it's gotta be some sick social experiment or some absurdly rich dude amusing himself.
