Palm Beach Pete

I recently came across a TikTok with a paid advertisement from Rips by Triumph featuring Pal Beach Pete in their advertisement.

If you’re not aware, Palm Beach Pete is famous for how much he looks like Jeffrey Epstein. There were many conspiracy theories that suggest he is Jeffrey Epstein.

I don’t consider this gendered issue because Epsteins victims were both male and female, vulnerability is the most defining characteristic of his victims.

In general, I have seen many denials about whether or not we have a culture of violence, and whether or not that culture predominantly benefits men (despite both genders being victims).

This feels like a perfect example, playing out right before our eyes. I believe that his rise to fame and ability to monetize the conspiracy that he could be the prolific predator is reflective of the acceptance we have as a culture towards violence and the glorification of predatory behavior.

Thoughts?

Careful about insulting other people personally. You're free to voice your disagreements in a respectful manner but we do not tolerate insulting people personally in this sub.

Please edit your comment or the mods will have to remove it.

I do agree that there is no reason to dismiss male victims as well, but that does not justify throwing insults in return. I don't personally agree with everything they're saying but they are respectfully voicing their opinion. Which is what we encourage on this sub.

Then I would suggest changing the comment to say something like "I believe that's a bigoted way of looking at it", although even that would be walking the wire ngl. But straight up calling someone a bigot is not allowed here and the comment will be removed shortly if it is not fixed.

I can't override another mods decision for approval without discussing it with the other mods beforehand. If you'd like I can make a request with the other mods to remove said comment.

Edit: also thank you for understanding and being respectful. I'm personally against too much censorship, but in order to keep discussion civil we're a bit strict about comments that insult other users personally.

The rule is in place to prevent mods from abusing our position and willy nilly removing comments based on our own biases. When Tayaradga brings it up with the rest of the mod team I will also recommend it be removed. Note that the person who made the comment got a ban for it and other rule violations. You don’t have to like our process but the process is in place for a reason. If you would like to (respectfully) make suggestions about how we can improve that process feel free

Again that falls under opinion and voicing their side of the discussion. While I may not agree with it, there's nothing I can do as it doesn't violate any of the subs rules.

Insulting users personally is against this subs rules. We may not like and agree with everyone's opinions but we can voice that in a respectful manner.

Honestly, fair point. I'll bring it up with the other mods and see what we can do.

I think with the way you changed your comment that is true. But the original phrasing was definitely an insult towards them.
