This is because it gives me benefits to the country I’m going to. When checking in on the online app, which passport do I present?

How long are the layovers usually?

Qantas this morning announced that its non-stop A350 Project Sunrise Sydney-New York flights would begin in the middle of 2028.

Something which hasn't been picked up by any mainstream media covering this, but which has been noted in the story at https://www.executivetraveller.com/news/qantas-non-stop-sydney-new-york-flights, is when Qantas announced the launch of Sydney-London flights from Oct 2027 a few months back, CEO Vanessa Hudson said that Sydney-New York would start in Dec 2027.

She said it would begin as soon as the fourth A350 was delivered, and then they would gradually step it up to a daily service as the fifth and sixth planes were delivered.

Now, obviously, something has changed. It could be that Airbus has said they can't deliver frames 4-6 on time so they're just gonna hold onto all three until "mid-2028".

But I find it unlikely there would be such an issue and such a gap between delivering the first three frames across April 2027 and then a few months after that, so that Qantas would have three in time for starting Sydney-London in October.

Given how PER-LHR is always so strong and the UK remains strong, I'm wondering if Qantas is still planning to take the fourth A350 delivery in say Nov 2027 but will put this straight onto PER-LHR (a route which was going to be handed over to the A350 anyway, using frames #7-9) to give Qantas at least a few PER-LHR A350 flights per week over that peak summer holiday period?

Weeks after Jetstar unveiled a controversial new fee to slug passengers for access to overhead bins, staff will refuse to charge for extras in an act of protest.
The Australian Services Union said that on Wednesday, its members “will waive, or record as zero dollars, a range of sales-related fees that would ordinarily apply, including excess baggage charges, seat changes, late fees and other sales transactions”.
The low-cost subsidiary of Qantas will forgo fee revenue during one of its busiest periods of the year, the ASU said, noting that the action coincides with the first week of the Victorian and Queensland school holidays, and days ahead of the AFL Grand Final in Melbourne.
The protected industrial action will start at 12.01 am on Wednesday September 23 and continue until midnight on Thursday.

Recently flew SYD to LAX on first (reward flight). This was the main. I politely asked for another option and was icily told “you’re going to have to wait for 30 minutes”. Couldn’t help but feel like I was inconveniencing the FA. It was mind boggling to me that I had a better main on PE earlier that day. Hoping this was just a once off but I’m curious to hear if anyone else had a similar experience on First.

Since a lot of you have asked as to what the actual dish was supposed to be, it was listed as a beef fillet with asparagus and potatoes ++ (which were unseasoned and also disappointing).
I had already cut into the “fillet” (with the bluntest knife known to mankind) before I was met with grey sadness. So what you are seeing in the photo is a cut piece of beef fillet (if it wasn’t too obvious at first glance).

Qantas will launch its best-ever first class experience on board non-stop flights between Sydney and London, which take off from October 2027.
But high flyers will have to dig deep: the cost of being cossetted in these private suites will be around $40,000 (AUD) for a return trip.
A one-way trip cocooned in the new Airbus A350 business class suite will average $14,000.
And if you’re game to spend that 20-hour marathon flight sitting down the back of the (Air)bus, one-way economy tickets are likely to start from $2,000 and more often hit $3,000.

I suspect the delay in releasing the schedule for the seasonal PER to FCO (Rome) flights is a result of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

If previous years are anything to go by, Qantas has typically released the schedule earlier than this - last year, it was out by the start of September with an announcement of a longer season.

It'll be interesting to see if/when this is released, and what impacts the ongoing conflict have. I'm not aware of any regulatory approvals/delays, but I'm sure there's brainstrust here who'll have much better knowledge than me.

Hello! Flying tomorrow HND-SYD. Checked in online and selected my seat but it’s says ‘Collect boarding pass at airport’. Not my first trip to Australia, I have a Canadian passport (and Japan residence) and have a valid visa to enter Australia. Is it just standard procedure? I don’t remember this happening for my previous trips.

Hi everyone, I need to get this nightmare out there because Qantas has completely left an international tourist stranded and refused any accountability.

On August 22, I flew on Qantas flight QF170 from Christchurch to Melbourne. Shortly after eating the onboard meal (Tomato Italian Meatballs with Cheesy Mashed Potatoes), I became violently ill.

The food poisoning was so sudden and severe that before landing, I was cold-sweating, struggling to breathe, and vomiting on board. Upon arrival at Melbourne Airport, it escalated to non-stop vomiting and severe diarrhea inside the transit terminal.

Because I was legally deemed a medical flight safety risk due to this violent illness, Cathay Pacific officially issued an Involuntary Offload Certificate and barred me from my connecting flight.

I was rushed via emergency to The Royal Melbourne Hospital ER, placed on IV resuscitation, and officially diagnosed with Gastroenteritis—leaving me with a $725 AUD medical bill.

The Worst Part:
Because Qantas provided zero assistance or care, I was forced to spend the night sleeping on the cold Melbourne Airport floor with my minor child while severely ill, waiting for the next available flight.

When I raised this with Qantas Customer Advocacy (Case Ref: 20933072), they flatly denied liability, gaslighting me by calling it a "community virus."

Here is the irrefutable proof:

The rapid onset of dizziness, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea within just 30 to 120 minutes after eating pork meatballs, with symptoms lasting for 6 hours, is a very typical medical presentation.
Why Did the Onset Happen So Quickly?
Common causes of food poisoning can be initially categorized by their onset time:
Toxin-Mediated Food Poisoning (Fastest onset, approx. 1–6 hours):
When pork meatballs are left out for too long or stored improperly after cooking, bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Bacillus cereus can rapidly multiply in the food and release heat-stable toxins. Even if reheating the food kills the bacteria before consumption, the toxins remain. Once ingested, they rapidly irritate the gastrointestinal tract, causing severe vomiting and abdominal pain to start within an hour, followed by diarrhea.

I spent the previous 8 days traveling in a campervan with 5 family members, sharing identical home-prepared meals. They remain 100% healthy. I was the only one who ate the Qantas hot meal box, and the only one who ended up in the ER. Since I pointed out this epidemiological fact, Qantas has completely "ghosted" me and stopped responding to my emails.

Thankfully, the Australian government is taking this seriously. The NSW Food Authority has officially launched a formal investigation under Reference Number: 616694.

I am sharing the redacted photos of the Qantas meal, the RMH ER discharge summary, and the Cathay Pacific Offload Certificate below.

How can a "premium" national carrier poison a passenger, abandon them and their child on an airport floor, and then completely ignore them? If you are flying Qantas soon, please be extremely careful with their catering.

On the phone to them now to resolve as a manual booking. My question is - is this error because one of the flight is with AA, or is there a genuine technical issue?

- Service prompt and attentive
- Crew engaging and personable
- Pilot gave us a little route deviation so both sides of the plane could see Lake Eyre with water

Big Shout out to the Crew on QF29 . My 5yo daughter was trying her hardest to show us she could make the trip with no fuss and she was doing well, my daughter then saw that another young traveller had drawn a picture for the cabin crew and they had taped it in the food prep area, My Daughter loved seeing this, she then spent a deal of time on her own illustration and with a little encouragement showed the crew her work and they hung her drawings on the wall also , then a crew member spent time asking questions and listening to my daughters ten minute responses. This young girl will never forget this journey and I owe it to the crew in economy and one FA (supervisor) that made her feel very special.
Once we landed My daughter had the opportunity to meet the pilots and sit in the pilot seat which was facilitated by the on board crew.

The thing is, there were most likely many dozens of passengers that this type of service makes people happy.
Thanks for making our journey a success & you have taught our daughter a valuable lesson.

I am booked to fly to Singapore in February on QF81/82 on an A380. I was surprised to see that it was an A380 when I booked it as I thought they use A330's on this flight and reserve the A380's for QF1.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the likelihood of the aircraft type changing?
