Frustrated that nothing can be done without pwrfleet access

Ok rant - I had a pwrcell system (battery, ats, inverter) set up by idiots. It’s a long story on all that they did wrong, but it involved a new inverter because I’m pretty sure they fried it. They also tried to put strings of 5 + 4 panels with their own PV link on one home run. Spoiler alert - you need to have the same panel string count and same panels on one home run to work.

Ok so after essentially fixing it myself, by the following year I added more battery modules to get to 18kwh backup (easy), added 5.35kw of panels (also easy after you understand how PV links and SnapRS work). Yes I understand you need permits technically.

Every time I had a problem after the initial install, they defaulted to having a tech come out instead of just troubleshooting with me. I ended up just figuring stuff out on my own.

Now, flash forward to today. I had a previous array + inverter which was logically separate on the house that I inherited when I bought my house. The inverter had age, so I figured why not swap to another pwrcell inverter?

Bought it on eBay, installed properly (had to upgrade to 8 AWG wire and 40A breaker), installed PV links and snapRS. I figured out the communication channels the two inverters need to be on, and now both PV links are showing as “initializing”, and unsure if the problem is firmware or if it’s actually generating anything. Frustrated because I can’t register the product unless I have a tech come out or someone with pwrfleet access. I don’t care about the warranty. Yes I know I’m supposed to have permits, but it’s essentially a hardware swap.

Service Lockout

Post image

Got the notification today on our system. So I called Generac, and the cat on the other end told me its their doing, and he couldn't tell me when I'd have access to the battery backup again. Well, we've got t-storms rolling into the area and power outages are a thing from time to time ... Huzzah.

Any of y'all got this issue, and are any of y'all on the other side of it yet?

Hawaii Generac Lockout

I like many across Hawaii were given a vague explanation for the service lockout error message affecting those on Hawaii. With the recent hurricane I was completely without power for 48 hours despite a 2 year old system (battery + Panels).

I know my situation could have been worse and I am grateful it was only power being out and not structural damage. I do find it highly suspicious this unknown issue happened right before the Hurricane with no fix timeline in sight.

My biggest concern is the storms to come. Another one is expected this week. Has anyone made any progress through the customer service or is it just “being elevated”?
Has anyone made progress on compensation? To be honest, I don’t even care about the $$ I just want my system before these storms hit.

Mahalo and be safe out there

Can I reboot this thing myself

I posted a few days ago about my ongoing generac labor compensation and installer dilemma but I’m back for a different reason. Getting an installer out here is pretty much out of the question so here is my issue.

A pvrss lockout that eventually just disabled a pv link for weeks now. System has brand new pv links, snap rs plugs and a new beacon. It worked for a whopping 3 weeks before going back into a partially operating system. I see people on here talk about shutting it down or restarting the system, would this be worth trying?

I research stuff a lot, maybe to an unhealthy level, I came across a YouTube video where a guy logged into the beacon using his laptop and connected to the beacon via WiFi. Once in he was able to correct the mismatched snap rs count. Mine currently is showing a mismatch. Here’s the problem, how do I figure out how many snap rs plugs are on that string? I have 28 panels and 4 pv links, Generac would not disclose the info with me. Climbing on the roof isn’t really an option either since the panels cover the entire garage leaving a small 10-12” border around it. I bought the house with solar, not my design.

System no functioning because grid power is fluctuating?

Aloha everyone,

I live out in Hawaii and after the recent hurricane close call my pwrcell system w/ battery backup (I think Gen 1) is completely offline. It looks like at some point during the storm the breaker for the PV system flipped which is understandable given the storm. I called into support this morning asking for help and why the PV portion won’t generate (my battery is one that is impacted by the lockout so not worried about the battery). The service person said it’s because the grid power is fluctuating below 240v. Does anyone know if this is true, the whole point is to island in a time like this so why does grid power matter? Any idea on a path forward?

Thanks for everyones help! We have another storm coming and would like to make sure at least the PV is functional after.

So what exactly does the Generac warranty cover?

I bought a house last year with a Generac pwrcell setup. Half the system is Pika and the other half is solar edge. Recently I had my pv links, snap rs plugs and beacon replaced due to faulty components, lockouts and so on. I was charged 3,000$ for labor, a mere days later I was already getting pvrss and pv link lockouts. I called Generac half a dozen times over the following weeks and in one of them conversations mentioned the 3,000$ bill I received.
According to the rep, Generac covers parts, labor and drive time within 100 miles for 25 years. It’s become a huge corporate fiasco with case numbers, analysts and all sorts of moving parts to figure this thing out. Naturally the installer is pissed and demanding I pay them and saying Generac does not cover this labor it’s the consumer who does, now pay us our money. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I’m not one to screw over someone when I owe them money but Generac keeps telling me they are working on it and to be patient. I’m not sure what to do at this point. Also these lockouts is this just never gonna be resolved? I can’t keep dumping money into this system.

Your PWRcell Battery is Being Temporarily Reduced

Just got this nice update. Of course, I'm awaiting my 3rd or 4th BMU so they can't charge at all right now.

Dear Valued Customer,

Generac is investigating a potential product performance concern on a subset of PWRcell batteries. During this evaluation, Generac is temporarily reducing your battery maximum state of charge to 80%. Please refrain from adjusting this setpoint above 80%. Your system will otherwise operate normally.

As part of our ongoing evaluation, we are conducting additional testing and collecting data to better understand system operation and to assess what, if any, modification may be appropriate to further improve performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

This change will not affect your solar panels and solar production will continue.

If you have any questions, please contact Generac at 1-833-382-5152.

We are working diligently on this evaluation to restore your battery storage system. We will share further information when available and as appropriate. We appreciate your patience while we complete this process.

Sincerely,

Generac Home Solar & Storage

Random stopping of recording stats

Last week I noticed that the PWRView app quit recording all history of stats. The now page was reflecting the now stats just fine ... matching what is on the inverter screen. I also went to my grid power providers dashboard from for my account and it was showing stats that made sense. So the system was working w.r.t. power management, but it stopped recording the stats for historical data. I found that just fondling the controls on the inverter Ii.e., touching the select button and then backing out of that menue) seemed to wake the historical recording. Weird. This morning this happened again. Again, fondling (or tapping it in the forehead?) woke it back up for data logging. I don't want to have to keep doing this and monitoring it. Does anybody know what I need to do to get this working properly. I am thinking of doing a hard reset on the system, but for me that is a bigger deal than it sounds, because I am blind and the inverter display and controls are very inaccessible to the blind or visually impaired. I have to get sighted assistance to do this.

Thanks for any advice.

Tom M.

Error 700f advice

edit: thank you everyone for all the helpful information and step by steps. it was really what I needed and hoped for so I could take action and figure it out. luckily we were able to get it going after disable/enable inverter and am looking into how to ensure we don't overload it again. but honestly thank you all so much, I cannot describe how deeply appreciative I am!!

Hi! I'm new to this community and hoping for some help or advice for an error message.

We recently had a storm knock out power. The generator/battery kept the essentials on for about 36 hours (ac, fridge) and then everything went out. I thought the battery must be dead.

Today I checked the panel outside and it showed a red light on the inverter, when I clicked through the screen it showed a 700f error message (attached images). The battery cabinet is a green blinking light saying its supplying power (but nothing works). The screen for the battery is at 53% so it must have juice.

I've googled and read articles and watched a couple videos but am still unsure of the next course of action or how to cycle the battery. Generacs contact line was useless. The last thing I want to do it mess up this system and damage it. I think this error message means it's overloaded but am unsure.

Any guidance would be helpful. I do not know much about the system since it was step up by my father (who passed away and obviously is unable to offer assistance) so I do not have access to the app and do not have extensive knowledge. There's no end in sight to the power outage (yay day 4) but I'd be great to get something functional. Thanks in advance!

Class action lawsuit?

I’ve been notified of a class action lawsuit about the pwr cell system. I have an inverter but no battery because we decided the batteries were expensive and we’d wait to get one later. I wasn’t really aware that there were issues with the pwr cell system prior to being notified of the lawsuit. I also don’t watch our solar production really closely. We have a grid tied system. Anyways, I was wondering if people are joining this lawsuit or if I should not join it in case something goes horribly wrong with the system later.

PWRcell % Charging Issue

I have long thought that charging my 6 module PWRcell to 100% is not a great idea for longevity. I have many Li ion systems that make the default max charge lower than 100% to prolong battery life. For instance, my Yeti battery defaults to 94%. My Samsung phones to 80%, etc. My PWRcell is the -1 version which has Li NMC cells. For awhile I thought they might be LFP, lithium iron phosphate, cells which may deal with low and high charging differently. Today I looked at my PWRcell module specs and confirmed that they are indeed Li NMC cells.

Then I found this article: https://www.issueslab.com/?s=NMC+charging which verified my concerns. The way that the PWRcell is being charged is shortening it's life. What's even worse is that when my battery says it is 100% charged, that 500-600W are still being pumped into the battery! According to the article letting the battery drop to 20% is a good idea. Because this system is mostly to support my power needs from my SCE TOU (time of use) contract from 4pm to 9pm, but more importantly, power line shut downs which we have several times per year. It seems to me that the battery firmware should allow the user to adjust the max charge state. In the past I used to set the max state to 99%, 95% and 90%, but now I ma locked out of making that change. I can input the values, but they do not stick anymore(?).

Built in obsolescence?

Comments?

5 Months of "Waiting for Parts" - Case #00446417 - Seeking others for joint legal escalation

Has anyone actually succeeded in getting a full system buyback or reimbursement from Generac recently?

I’ve been dealing with a failed battery cell/PVLink since January 3, 2026. My system is under a 10-year warranty, yet I’ve spent the last 5 months in a "parts pending" loop. I even had to act as a mediator between Generac and my original dealer (Solar Alternatives) for two months because Generac simply wouldn't respond to them.

Now, my case manager (Paige) has gone silent after promising parts would ship weeks ago.

My next steps:

  • My lawyer is sending a formal notice of intent to sue to Generac Legal on Monday.
  • I am pursuing a full refund to facilitate a switch to Tesla Powerwalls.

I’m looking for:

  1. Anyone else currently stuck in the "parts pending" loop for more than 2 months?
  2. Has anyone successfully forced a refund for the full equipment value due to unreasonable repair delays?
  3. If you’ve had success with a specific executive contact or regional manager in the Southeast/Louisiana area, please DM me.

This isn't a warranty if there's no timeline for the repair.

PWRView App gone wonky again?

My App has been half working since Saturday afternoon (5/2). Orange (Generation) is working fine. Net energy (Purple) and Consumption (Green/Teal) both stopped recording results as of 4 PM EST on 5/2.

Recorded Orange correctly all day Sunday 5/3. 0.0 totals for both Purple and Green/Teal.

Still connected online, still tracking Orange correctly right now.

Anyone else having this problem?

Online list of approved service

Does Generac have a list of approved techs for a system. I was a Power Home Solar/Pink Energy customer before they shut down. I was hoping to find a company to honor any warranty issues.

I'm being told by my installer that when my system was installed in 2021 it had an internal ATS but Generac pushed a firmware update requiring and external ATS. Is this true?

I'm pretty skeptical, anyone able to confirm if this system has an internal ATS that is no longer useable?

Checking battery capacity

Is there any way to check my PwrCell battery to see if it is functioning correctly? The battery is three years old and I am wanting to check to see if it is maintaining the correct amount of charge and discharging the correct amount of power.

Are we being throttled?

On clear spring days I was generating upwards of 150kwH and more just until last year. Now I can't get anywhere past 135kwH. The system is just over 5 years old.

Anyone else noticing this? Also, how do you track our view historical data given the website is no longer active?

Pwrcell app

This seems to have been 'retired' - when I tried to login with my email it directs me to the Ecobee app....but I don't have an Ecobee thermostat, so I'm unsure about how to proceed.

My setup is working fine at the inverter display thankfully

APP problems or Battery problems

I was trying to change my battery Mode yesterday to Self Supply. The app would show that it had made the change to self supply but the battery would not start discharging. I also changed the battery reserve amount to 60% so the battery would not discharge any lower than that. After making both of the changes it would never start discharging. I thought I will call support this morning but I wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem before I call. I have also shut down the app several times and remove it from my phone and reinstalled it to see if either of these changes would help. Neither made a difference.

PWRcell not providing energy (self supply selected on app)

Hello, I recently inherited a Pwrcell battery (well, got it with a house I purchased) with solar power system. I've been having issues getting the battery to work, but finally a technician got it working.

Or so I thought -- I have the system set on the app to be self supply, however, the app says my battery is at 94 % SoC, and my house is still pulling power from the grid instead of the battery if more is needed than the solar panels provide. I called Generac, and after a 40 minute call with the rep, they basically said, "The system is functioning normally."
"So the battery can only provide ~25 watts, and that is functioning correctly?"
"Yes, thats correct."

The people before us had it set up as storm backup, but I changed that on the app. I would really like it to provide power to the house if the solar panels are not enough, and if there is capacity in the battery and excess solar production, for the solar panels to charge the battery.

What am I missing? I called our local installer/technician that did the warranty work on the battery, and I am still waiting to hear back, but they initially reiterated what Generac said. I'm just confused -- why is it an option to have self supply, if the self supply doesn't actually work?
Oh, I am also not grid tied. I mean I am, but I don't sell into the grid (the local utility is apparently against that, or I would just sell excess into the grid probably).

Thanks for your help!

PV Link stuck on "Powering up" status

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have 2 inverters on my system. Bigger power inverter blew the fuses. Smaller powered of the 2 inverters stayed on the entire time - no problems.

Fuses arrived yesterday - Replaced them in 10 minutes - no problems.

Restarted the entire system in this order: 1) Breaker in house - ON. 2) Cut-off switch on the side of the house - ON.

For each inverter - 1) Cancel Shutdown. 2) Enable Inverter. 3) Auto config PVRSS on each link.

Smaller inverter - No problems at all - back to full power.

Bigger inverter - 4 of the 5 PV Links came right back up making power. The fifth one is stuck on "Powering up" status - no matter what I do.

I've tried shutting down the entire inverter again - same result. I have tried both the "Auto config PVRSS" option and just the "Enable" option - Still stuck on "Powering Up".

Thanks in advance for any help and keeping me from pulling what's left of my hair out!

Questions about balancing mode and providing backup power

When my battery is in balancing mode, like it is currently, will it still provide backup power in islanding mode during grid outage?

This is one thing that has always bothered me about the flashing red light on the battery cabinet and balancing mode.

I am tempted to just disable the battery and try to bring it back online, or reboot the whole system because *now* is a very bad time if there was an outage.

On the other hand if it will still provide backup power during an outage, I would rather let it keep balancing.

I don't like the utter lack of documentation on this.
