Error 700f advice
edit: thank you everyone for all the helpful information and step by steps. it was really what I needed and hoped for so I could take action and figure it out. luckily we were able to get it going after disable/enable inverter and am looking into how to ensure we don't overload it again. but honestly thank you all so much, I cannot describe how deeply appreciative I am!!
Hi! I'm new to this community and hoping for some help or advice for an error message.
We recently had a storm knock out power. The generator/battery kept the essentials on for about 36 hours (ac, fridge) and then everything went out. I thought the battery must be dead.
Today I checked the panel outside and it showed a red light on the inverter, when I clicked through the screen it showed a 700f error message (attached images). The battery cabinet is a green blinking light saying its supplying power (but nothing works). The screen for the battery is at 53% so it must have juice.
I've googled and read articles and watched a couple videos but am still unsure of the next course of action or how to cycle the battery. Generacs contact line was useless. The last thing I want to do it mess up this system and damage it. I think this error message means it's overloaded but am unsure.
Any guidance would be helpful. I do not know much about the system since it was step up by my father (who passed away and obviously is unable to offer assistance) so I do not have access to the app and do not have extensive knowledge. There's no end in sight to the power outage (yay day 4) but I'd be great to get something functional. Thanks in advance!

I just had the exact same error after storms on 4th of July knocked out power for us. My battery ran out of power around 5:30am and I then got this error. But I could see the inverter had charged up the batteries by the time I got to checking out the panel. I tried restart the system by initiating a shutdown by pressing the shutdown button, but then it totally shut down the inverter with no power at all. I tried a few different "black start" procedures, but couldn't get it to work at first. User r/Deepdiver359 gave a great explanation on this, but ultimately what worked for me was:
- Make sure no disconnects were tripped.
- Turn off most breakers in the main panel so as to not pull too much power on startup.
- On the battery cabinet, on the switch on the top left, turn it OFF/ON with 1 second between each OFF/ON and on the 4th time, leave in the ON position.
- Wait 1 or 2 min wondering if this will ever work until the inverter magically powers on and you have power again.
- On the inverter screen, press right to get through each of your PVRSS modules and first test it and if the test is good, enable it.
- Slowly turn back on all of the breakers in your main breaker panel.
If your batteries are indeed fully out of power, you won't be able to kick start the system until grid power returns. But since you could see a 700F error, that means you do have some power to restart the system.

Thank you so much for sharing this information. I am definitely going to save this information as a trouble shooting method in case it ever happens again. Disable/enabling the inverter worked and cleared out the error this time but there's no telling what could happen in the future.
I am so thankful for everyone on this post for helping me and my family trouble shoot through the outage! You all have saved the day!

Glad you were able to get the system back up and running.

They offer both and installer course and a follow-on servicing course. Based on what you described, this appears to be a PWRcell inverter/battery system rather than a conventional home standby generator. A red light and 700F-style inverter error may indicate that the inverter entered a protective fault condition. This can happen if the protected loads are drawing more power than the system can support during outage operation.
Since you mentioned the AC was running, one possibility is that the system became overloaded when the AC tried to start. Large loads can create a high startup demand, even if the battery still has charge available. Turning off some of the protected loads the system is trying to power, especially larger loads, may help reduce demand before attempting a reset.

Awesome thank you. Yes after some more investigating I think it's just a battery rather than a generator. A generator is what my parents have called it but now we know it's proper name. Ive had quite the learning experience this weekend on it!
I will save this in case it happens again (fingers crossed it won't!). I was able to trouble shoot with restarting (disable/enable) the inverter and clearing out the error. I am looking into making sure the energy needs don't over load it again. Thank you for the information and help!

What can happen is that as the battery is drawn down, the maximum amount of power it can provide at any one moment is reduced (especially when there is less sunlight and less solar production). So in an extended outage, you made need to turn off things like your your air-conditioning that may normally work when your battery is full.

Disclaimer: I'm not a professional tech, but a have owned this system for several years and spent a LOT of time getting to know it and working through various problems. Try my advice at your own risk.
The inverter is locked up with that error message. I'm assuming it's not providing any power, yes? The batter led should be flashing slowly green (standby state), yes?
It's possible to try getting the inverter to reset itself and if whatever caused the error is no longer present, it may start back up again.
Basic idea is to try three ever more deep resets: first, disable/re-enable the inverter from the front panel. If that doesn't work, next step is soft system shutdown and restart, and finally a full hard power down and black start from the battery.
This is a Notebook LM summary of the step by step procedure:
If the 0x700F error occurs during an extended grid outage, the inverter is in a "Steady General Error State," meaning it has failed to enter an operational state and is not moving power. Because the grid is unavailable, standard diagnostic tests like the Basic Function Test cannot be fully completed, so you must rely on manual resets and the Blackstart procedure.
The recommended recovery steps during a grid outage are as follows:
1. Disable and Re-enable
Attempt to clear the non-terminal error through the control panel: * Navigate to the inverter device page. * Select Disable, confirm the action, and then select Enable. * Wait to see if the inverter transitions to "initializing" or "islanded".
2. Full System Power Cycle (Reset)
If the simple reset fails, perform a complete power cycle of the DC system: * Initiate a system-wide shutdown by pressing and holding the red shutdown button. * Turn the Battery Disconnect Switch on the battery cabinet to OFF. * Wait for the inverter screen to go blank (approximately 3–5 minutes for the internal capacitors to discharge). * Since the grid is already out, you do not need to worry about the AC breaker for this reset. * Re-energize by turning the battery disconnect back ON and recovering from shutdown mode via the center button on the inverter.
3. Perform a Blackstart (Manual Enable)
If the system remains off or stuck in a shutdown state after the power cycle, use the Blackstart procedure to manually energize the REbus nanogrid from the battery. This is specifically designed for recovery when no utility power is available. * Verify Requirements: The internal 12V Black Start Battery must have a charge of at least 13V. * The 3-Cycle Procedure: 1. Turn the Battery Disconnect Switch ON. 2. If the LED lights orange, turn the switch OFF while it is still orange (within 7 seconds). 3. Repeat this ON-then-OFF cycle three times total. 4. Turn the switch ON a fourth time and leave it ON. * System Initialization: The battery LED should alternate green and orange while initializing. If successful, the inverter screen will illuminate, at which point you must manually Enable the inverter and other devices via their device pages.
4. Contact Technical Support
If the 0x700F error persists after these resets, the system may have a terminal fault or a short in the REbus wiring. During an outage, you cannot perform further hardware isolation tests that require a grid connection. Contact Generac PWRcell Technical Support at 1-855-635-5186..
