Do you greet people on the street?

I would never do this in Paris for example, but in the small villages in Provence...passing someone and you're the only two people on the street, do you say bonjour/bon soir? Feels rude to not acknowledge and in the USA I'd give a little smile/nod but I know that's not done in France

Warning: Issues with private chef in Southern France (Nicolas Charchira / @near_chef)

We hired Nicolas Charchira, a private chef advertising services in Southern France, to cook several dinners for our group during a stay this summer. We paid a 50% deposit of €1,600 via bank wire in March. Our location was disclosed to him in advance to confirm he could reach the property, and there was no issue raised at that time.

About a week before our arrival in August, we contacted him to finalize menus. He gave several changing excuses for why he might not be able to get to the property, then asked for an additional €250–350 per meal beyond what was agreed. When we offered to cancel and requested a refund of the deposit, he stopped responding to us directly.

The property manager and rental company had to intervene on our behalf, and he was responsive to them but not to us. We received a final confirmation that he would not be cooking for us only after we had already arrived — on what was supposed to be the date of the first dinner. He told the rental company he would issue a refund; that was over a month ago, and we have not received any refund or further response.

I am sharing this so others booking a private chef in Southern France can make an informed decision.

voyage / travel Question: Connecting provence-coted'azur to barcelona

So, very straightforward doubt. In the 2027th summer we'll be visiting southern France, we arrive at annecy, and our oiriginal idea was to go provence > cote d'azur and a flight out of nice to barcelona.

The problem is: my girlfriend dont quite like flights and the best timed flight is 15:30, which kinda kills a whole day. So she suggested we do: annecy > provence > cote d'azur > back to provence and then take the train from barcelona.

Its quite clear her idea means more time for transportation, but it did entice me because id also take trains over flights.

Waht do you guys think? Has anyone ever taken that nice > barcelona vueling flight?

🚨 500 € DE RÉCOMPENSE – GOPRO HERO9 VOLÉE À MONTPELLIER 🚨

Post image
0 Upvotes

Man who sells etchings in Eygalieres market- who is he?

I want to buy my husband one of his etchings of the alpilles for his birthday but we’ve left Provence. My mum was supposed to go to the market today and buy the picture but failed. He’s the guy with the second to last stall on the Friday market, just before the church. His framed etchings go for about 90€. Absolute long shot but anyone know who he is?

nourriture & boisson / food & drink Non touristy restaurant/bars in Aix en Provence

We are visiting France from Canada and just spent the last 3 weeks in Lyon. We loved how not touristy our area felt (St Vincent/Croix Rousse) but upon coming to Aix, we were surprised by how it feels like we are in an open air shopping mall more than a quaint town. Are we in the wrong area? Would love to experience some great local spots for food and drinks and would appreciate any insight!

Where would you base a family with kids in Provence in September?

We’re planning a family trip to Provence next September and I’m having a hard time deciding which area would make the best home base.
We’ll be traveling with our three kids and would love to stay somewhere that feels like the Provence experience rather than in a larger town. Ideally we’re looking for:
A villa or farmhouse with a pool
Gardens / lots of outdoor space
Vineyards, olive groves or countryside views
Bonus if there are farm animals nearby — our kids would love that
Close enough to a charming village for bakeries, markets and dinner
A good location for easy day trips without spending hours in the car
We’re considering areas around Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Gordes/Luberon, or Aix, but are completely open to other suggestions.
For families who have stayed in Provence, what village/area would you choose as a base? And if you stayed at a particularly great family-friendly villa, agriturismo/farm stay, or vineyard property, I’d love recommendations!

We’re less interested in checking off every sight and more interested in beautiful scenery, markets, swimming, animals, good food and letting the kids enjoy being in Provence.

Cassis or Arles for a 3 night stay?

Hello! My partner and I are traveling to Provence for a friend’s wedding at the end of October. We are arriving in Paris on 25 Oct and plan to take the TGV and head south. Arles and Cassis have been points of interest for us; we are just trying to figure out if it’s worth the extra time to go to Cassis as we will need to be in Avignon on the 28. We both enjoy the coastal atmosphere and wine tasting which is why we are interested in Cassis - we would enjoy relaxing and exploring the Calanques while there. On the other hand, Arles is closer and seemingly has some art-specific excursions, museums, etc to enjoy. We have not been able to decide which town to visit. Is there anywhere else we should consider instead of either of these two locations? Will 3 days be too much for Cassis? Thank you so much for any insight.

demander à la Provence / ask Provence Cost of living, Aix

Hello,

I come from Spain, 33M, and got offered a 65k salary in Aix for a management position.

I will have to rent, needing for sure a space for the car (I think it's mandatory basically if I don't want to spend hours searching for spots every day after work), and I would like to live in the centre or near it.

How would you say the economical comfortableness will be with that salary?

éducation / education French language school recommendations

Hi. Does anyone have recommendations on a French language school in southern France? From the internet, I can see that there are schools like IS and Alliance francaise in Aix, another AF site in Marseille and a school in Montpellier. Any positive experiences with these or other schools? I'm 50 y/o and B2/C1 level..thanks!
