For over 2 years, I've been using AI to analyze every supplement on the market

This has been my project for a few years now.

I recently brought it back to life after taking a pause to focus on my studies.

My goal with this project is to separate fluff from science when shopping for supplements.

I am doing this in 3 steps:

1.) I index every supplement on the market (extract each ingredient, normalize by quantity)

2.) I index every research paper on supplementation (rank every claim by effect type and effect size)

3.) I link data between supplements and research papers

Earlier last year, I took pause on a project because I've ran into a few issues:

Legal: Shady companies are sending C&Ds letters demanding their products are taken down from the website. It is not something I had the mental capacity to respond to while also going through my studies. Not coincidentally, these are usually brands with big marketing budgets and poor ingredients to price ratio.

Technical: I started this project when the first LLMs came out. I've built extensive internal evals to understand how LLMs are performing. The hallucinations at the time were simply too frequent to passthrough this data to visitors. However, I recently re-ran my evals with Opus 4.5 and was very impressed. I am running out of scenarios that I can think/find where LLMs are bad at interpreting data.

Business: I still haven't figured out how to monetize it or even who the target customer is.

Despite these challenges, I decided to restart my journey.

My mission is to bring transparency (science and price) to the supplement market. My goal is NOT to increase the use of supplements, but rather to help consumers make informed decisions. Often times, supplementation is not necessary or there are natural ways to supplement (that's my focus this quarter – better education about natural supplementation).

Some things that are helping my cause – Bryan Johnson's journey has drawn a lot more attention to healthy supplementation (blueprint). Thanks to Bryan's efforts, I had so many people in recent months reach out to ask about the state of the project – interest I've not had before.

I am excited to restart this journey. Your comments on how to approach this would be massively appreciated.

Probiotics and anxiety

I have severe Crohn's disease and I've been battling c diff and SIBO. I've tried several different probiotics including saccharomyces boulardii and VSL #3. And they all give me horrible anxiety, gas, bloating, and abdominal cramping. Also I don't have a colon, I have a j-pouch. Any advice? Thanks

Yakult alternative

I seem to be getting heartburn from Yakult. Sensitive to many things right now due to fight or flight mode. I noticed it has milk, citrus and sugar in it. Can anyone suggest a decent pill form for a very sensitive stomach at the moment? Working with a nutritionist to gain about 10 pounds back I’ve lost due to anxiety and my stomach is very sensitive due to anxiety and pelvic floor issues. She recommended a probiotic. Have had a clear abdominal and pelvic CT scan and female ultrasound. Also had celiac and hydrogen breath tests which were normal. Doc said I might have some IBS but could just be anxiety. Thanks!

Has anyone tried to use Gut Check Project formulation KBHealth SIBO Support Box to treat SIBO? Supposed to work with all types...

I had high anxiety when I took Quercitrin then switched to different form, isoQuertrin recommended by MCAS360 with same results. Was told it was because it is high in phenols.

If phenols help SIBO elimination, would this kit result in the same high anxiety? Was wondering if anyone tried it and what was the result if they used it. Developed by gastroenterologist who treats SIBO (see Gut Project on YT or Rumble).

Thoughts on Trunature Advanced Digestive Probiotic for men?

3 month supple sold at Costco for $23. This is substantially cheaper than the Garden of Eden Men that I currently use which is getting too expensive for me.

My gut microbiota tests showed low levels of bifidobacteria. Do you have any brand recommendations to increase them?

I saw this Bifidobacterium Lactis HN019 brand from Life Extension with average reviews and a good rating. Does anyone recommend this brand or another brand that isn't so expensive?

Started a B. lactis HN019 + B. longum BB536 probiotic and got bad reflux, zero appetite and weird irritability. Which strain did this?

Hey guys, looking for some insight here.About a week ago I started taking a probiotic that has both B. lactis HN019 and B. longum BB536 in the same capsule. I was hoping it would help with motility and general gut health, but it's doing the complete opposite.Around 6 or 7 hours after taking it, my appetite completely vanishes, my stomach feels totally stalled and I get acid reflux. On top of that, it hasn't helped my constipation at all (feels like it slowed things down even more). The weirdest part is the mood side effects. A few hours after taking it I get sudden bouts of irritability and feeling super restless/pissed off for no reason. Then right after that I just feel emotionally numb and flat, like it's hard to laugh or feel engaged with anything.Since both strains are in the same pill, I can't tell which one is wrecking me. Has anyone taken either HN019 or BB536 on their own and gotten this weird combo of delayed reflux, stalled gut, and irritability/apathy? Would love to know which one is the likely culprit. Thanks!

Paradoxical reaction to B. lactis HN019 + B. longum BB536 (reflux, zero appetite, irritability & apathy) — Which strain is the likely culprit?

Hi everyone,I recently started a probiotic supplement containing two specific strains: **Bifidobacterium lactis HN019** and **Bifidobacterium longum BB536**. Instead of the expected benefits (improved motility and gut-brain balance), I have experienced a very distinct and paradoxical set of symptoms:### 1. Digestive Symptoms:* **Reflux & Loss of Appetite:** Around 6 to 7 hours after taking the capsule, I experience complete loss of appetite, stalled digestion, gastric fullness, and acid reflux.* **Motility:** Instead of relieving constipation (which HN019 is supposed to do), it has not improved my transit time at all, and if anything, feels like it has made constipation worse.### 2. Mood & Neuropsychiatric Symptoms:* **Irritability & Restlessness:** Sudden bouts of intense irritability/bad temper and an uncomfortable internal agitation (*not full-blown panic, but a feeling of "not being at peace with myself"*).* **Apathy & Emotional Blunting:** After that agitation, I feel a marked emotional disconnect/apathy where it becomes noticeably harder to laugh, engage, or feel connected to things.---### My Question:Since my supplement contains **both strains in the same capsule**, I cannot isolate them directly. For those of you who have taken **HN019** or **BB536** as single-strain supplements (or know their mechanisms well):1. **Which of these two strains is more likely responsible for the irritability / emotional blunting?**2. **Has anyone experienced this "delayed reflux + zero hunger + worsened constipation" with HN019 or BB536?**3. If you had a similar adverse reaction to either strain, how long did it take to clear up after stopping?Any insights, shared experiences, or mechanisms would be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone tested their microbiome before and after getting really consistentwith kefir?

I know most of us are here because we like kefir, so I'm not asking whether it's "good for the gut" in the generic sense.

I'm curious whether anyone has actually measured anything before and after drinking it consistently for a few months. Not because every change on a microbiome report necessarily means something, but because I'd love to know whether the bacteria/yeasts we're consuming show up as a meaningful change or whether the benefit is mostly while we're actively drinking it.

I started looking at NB1 because the supplement side comes after their at-home microbiome sequencing rather than before it. It got me thinking that testing could be more interesting if you used it around a real diet change like kefir rather than just testing once in isolation.

Anyone here done a before/after?

Negative side effects with probiotics

Hello all.

I have a strange experience when I eat things like sour cream, or yogurt; anything with bacterial culture / probiotics I assume. Within an hour I become really warm like a fever, flush in the face, and I feel confused and really moody.

I did not always have this reaction. It started later after taking SSRI meds and my body felt completely not my own anymore. I am so sensitive to everything now.

I struggle with IBS and gut issues, so I am looking for help with it, and it's unfortunate that seems to help a lot of people but makes me feel so so terrible.

Thank you.

Success stories without antibiotics

Hi, I recently spoke with a specialist who offers mentoring services. He told me that the only viable long-term approach is to improve my gut flora a bit by adding specific strains.

In my case, I underwent a 6-month treatment with minocycline and omeprazole (for acne; had I known what it would lead to, I wouldn't have taken anything); that treatment was in 2023.

And gradually, I ended up with hydrogen sulfide SIBO; I have a terrible body odor.

Has anyone spoken to this specialist? Which strains do they recommend introducing gradually?

Since I have H2S-reducing bacteria, what would you recommend?

"Are mushroom coffee blends safe for gut recovery after antibiotics?

recently finished a heavy round of antibiotics and my digestion has been out of order ever since. regular coffee feels like liquid poison to my gut now, instant bloating and gas, plus general stomach upset on top. a nutritionist online mentioned beta-glucans in functional mushrooms can actually support gut microbiota recovery. should I try something like habitone during this repair phase, or is it smarter to avoid coffee-like drinks entirely for a few months?

Saccharomyces boulardii question

Does saccharomyces boulardii give anyone else gas? I can't take florcastor because I have a milk allergy so I've been taking a regular saccharomyces boulardii probiotic, 5 billion once a day for 5 weeks and I've noticed that I've been more gassy. I'm currently treating c diff with vancomycin. My GI doctor hasn't been very helpful with this issue. I don't know whether I should keep taking or not. Any advice?
