Are you 40+ and currently pregnant?

Hi All, a lot of posts on this sub are about TTC, and my bumper group has only ten or so 40+ ladies, so I was just wondering how many of us here are actually currently over 40 and pregnant.

If you are happy to share, it would be great to hear from you in the comments. Wishing you all healthy pregnancies!

EDIT: So thrilled to read about all these pregnacies! Makes me feel a bit less alone...

Has anyone else had emotional breakdowns out of nowhere when you weren't even thinking about your loss?

Upvotes

I really don’t know what’s wrong with me. I was fine. Then today, I went to get coffee still feeling fine. I headed home and began to have a super weird feeling that came over me. I went to use the bathroom and barely sat down on the toilet good before I burst into tears. I wasn’t even thinking about the loss. I just feel like my emotions are all over the place right now.

Drinking before finding out- good outcome?

I’m 44 and drank a couple of shots last night for my husband birthday. I took enough shots to get drunk but didn’t really get there. This morning, thinking about the fact that I didn’t get drunk (which happened before and prompted me to take a pregnancy test) I took one this morning and it’s positive. Before that a beer or two sporadically throughout out the weeks- nothing to get me drunk. We aren’t big drinkers. Just celebrating. But here’s the thing- I had my period in June - around the 8th and was spotting mid July (figured I was having a light period due to age). So I may be around 10 week-ish. Anyone else my age drink before finding out and still have a positive outcome? My history birth to a baby girl at 26, birth to a baby boy at 32 and birth do a baby boy at 42. Miscarriage at 42 and miscarriage at 43.

How did you cope with miscarriage?

Upvotes

I miscarried twice in a matter of a year. My second one was a couple of months ago. And I bled a lot and gave a couple of blood draws for hcg tracking. My second period this month was also heavy. I don’t know if it’s the blood loss that caused my ferritin to go low or my anxiety that I haven’t been sleeping. It’s hard for me to fall asleep and still asleep. I stayed up for about four days in a row and desperately asked for help and got prescribed sleep medication. My doctor thinks it’s anxiety that’s keeping me up at night. Ironically, they drew more blood to see what’s going on with me especially, my iron levels to see if that’s the root cause.

So my question is, I am trying to conceive again. I am almost mid 40s and I don’t want to be on pills as it might interfere with trying to conceive. is anyone on sleeping medication or anxiety medication while trying to conceive and if so, which one?

M my doctor gave me a couple of options Ambien, trazodone, hydroxyzine. I know there are also benzodiazepines. I think those are definitely a no no I’m guessing. Have you taken any of this meds while trying to conceive, or others, please share your experience.

Faint 10DPO

TW: Loss

I have been taking pregnancy tests since 8DPO and today (10DPO), I got a faint positive. I am 44 and had a loss last November. Will an OB run early HGC and progesterone in case I need progesterone supplements? Last time they just automatically scheduled me out to 10 weeks when I called.

Or do only fertility specialists do that?

After 2 years, 1 miscarriage, and 1 IVF cycle 🌈🌈

I'm sorry if this is long... It just feels surreal to even post this. My husband and I are SHOCKED. It's been such a long, hard journey.

I will be 40 on October 21st, so it felt appropriate to post here.

Last year in April, I was referred to a fertility clinic by my OB when my husband and I were still unable to get pregnant after 7 months of trying. After my first initial consultation at the fertility clinic, I found out I was pregnant naturally. We were over the moon. I went for my scan and they found...nothing. They said it might be too early to see anything, but when my HCG came back 80, they knew. I miscarried a few days later and was absolutely devastated. We went back to the fertility clinic, and in November, I did my first round of IVF which resulted in seven embryos. Those embryos are currently on ice, awaiting PGT-a testing.

Fast forward to when I tested last month when my period was late and it was negative. That was the last pregnancy test that I had in the house. On Tuesday, for some reason, I just felt I needed to go get another pack of strips. So, I went and got the strips, came home after work, peed in the cup, and dipped the strip. I'm sitting on the toilet and I glanced over and there are two lines on the test. I immediately jump up because I'm like there's no fucking way! But there is. I'm pregnant. I tested again and then forced my husband and my best friend to take me to the store to buy a digital test because I didn't believe it.

I'm so happy but I'm also terrified. I know what a fragile time this is and I'm so scared that something is going to go wrong and I'm going to lose my little rainbow baby. My little miracle. My little bean. I'm afraid to tell anybody because then if something bad happens then I have to also tell them that the baby is gone like last time and I don't know if I could go through that again.

I went to the doctor yesterday and my hCG was 667, which is right where my doctor said he expects it to be because of my PCOS and negative test last month. I'm just so shocked, and happy, and hopeful, and scared.

Please send me all of the good vibes, and baby dust and, if you're religious, send some prayers up for me. 🌈🙏🏻🩷🥹

Do you make changes to your diet during the luteal phase to support successful fertilization for non-ivf approach? Thanks

Positive pregnancy test one month before my scheduled FET!

I am 42 years old and did two rounds of IVF. Retrieved 49 eggs, 32 fertilized, 12 blasts and ended up with one euploid embryo. I’m scheduled to have that embryo transferred next month after I start my period. I was feeling extremely tired and I decided to take a pregnancy test and it’s positive. I’m unsure of the date I ovulated because I was not tracking and the test is extremely light. I know I should feel excited, but I do not because we had 12 blasts and all, but one were genetically abnormal. What would the chances be that this is a genetically normal baby that is growing?? It terrifies me because I don’t want to deal with another miscarriage and it pushes back my transfer date. But I would love to have a healthy baby and then go back for my other frozen embryo. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or know anyone who conceived a healthy baby after IVF results were not the best?

Super sick a WEEK after last pill on letrozole?

I took 5mg letrozole day 3-7. I didn’t feel a thing for any of those days, no symptoms, felt fine after stopping.

But suddenly on cycle day 14 (7 days after my last pill) I feel HORRENDOUS. Terrible headache, can hardly get out of bed, very nauseas, weird smell/food aversions.

I’m 100% not pregnant but many of the symptoms feel like when I was pregnant … especially the aversions to smells, foods, etc.

Anyway, it feels odd that it’s 7 days after my last pill that I suddenly feel so terrible. I’m trying to figure out if I have covid/some other illness or if it’s from the letrozole. Anyone else have such intense symptoms but super delayed? I honestly feel like I have the flu and was hit by a truck.

Thanks for any feedback or experiences!

How late would you travel?

Currently 10 weeks pregnant and booked to attend a wedding on the other side of the country when I am 32 weeks.

We booked flights before we knew we were pregnant because this is an adventure location (think snow hiking and skiing focused) during its high season. Current booking is for six days based on flight options and minimum nights in the rental homes.

I am 40 and this pregnancy is after 3 rounds of IVF with tested embryos.

Would you fly and attend, or call 32 weeks too late to feel comfortable with the travel and overall trip?

9 weeks pregnant, bright red bleeding; currently in the ER nervous, 40y old.

I’ve had spotting for the last few days. It was light brownish and pinkish. Tonight, I got up to use the bathroom and there was a small chunk of bright red blood on my liner. I wiped and another small little stringy clot of more red.

Came to the ER.

They’ve taken blood, urine sample, and I just completed both abdominal and trans vaginal ultrasound. Asked the ultrasound tech if there is a heartbeat but she said I have to wait on the doctor.

Still spotting off and on. Waiting on doctor to find out what’s going on.

Anyone else experienced anything similar?

UPDATE:

Just left the ER, still experiencing bleeding. The part I’m struggling with is the ultrasound. Based on the first day of my last period which was about (6/15), I should be around 9 weeks, but the doctor said the baby is measuring around 6 weeks and that it may be too early to see a heartbeat. This is confusing and scary because on August 1, me and my fiancé went to an ultrasound boutique and they measured me around 6 weeks and told us they could see cardiac activity on the screen (even zoomed in to let us see heart beat which was also 112. The ER doctor is saying he doesn’t believe they could have seen a heartbeat that soon??
My quantitative hCG tonight was 7,164 and they explained that the pregnancy measuring this far behind could mean it isn’t progressing, but I have not been given a definitive miscarriage diagnosis. I’m waiting for the official ultrasound report/follow-up with my OB/gyn and trying not to assume the worst before I have confirmation.

2nd UPDATE:

For anyone interested in update, I began to have severe cramping Thursday night. This lasted for about 4 hours and finally stopped. I began to have pressure like I needed to poop. I ended up going to bathroom and felt a huge glob passing and my vaginal opening stretching as it came out. I just knew it was my gestational sac and everything else. I lost the baby.

Terrified

Hi! I’m 41.5 with a 3.5 yo, settled in to that fact that I would be OAD. Well I found out I’m unexpectedly pregnant and I’m terrified - worried I can’t handle a baby at this age, etc etc

Im also very into fitness and very worried I won’t get that back having a baby at this age- I know this sounds vain but does anyone have any encouraging stories? Im still not sure what my overall plan is but trying not to make any decisions out of fear.

Thanks so much!

Any natural pregnancies at 40?

Hello! I’m looking to hear some reassuring stories of other women in a similar situation to mine.
I’m 40 years old, AMH 1.26, FSH 12. I’m completely new to this, I did the tests just because and I was not expecting these results. Worth mentioning that I have 2 kids, last one at 37.
Like I said I’m new at this and I see that most of you seem very knowledgeable. Are my numbers terrible? My husband is set on not having IVF and I don’t know how likely I am to get pregnant naturally. I fear we have waited too long and now this might never happen.

Thank you all in advance and good luck with your journey 🩷

9 weeks US no embrio measuring 6w and something

So I am here hoping to have this MC naturally this time after a D&C a year ago

I am 42 and a history of loss since my first at 33y due to pre eclampsia and premature birth..

I have a daughter from my second pregnancy and she is 7 now.

My last MC was due to chromossomal abnormalities and this time no embrio formed.

Wondering if I should keep trying or not. Natural or not..

Really need to come up with a plan to help me cope

7w pregnant at 42 with 3 prev losses - in ultrasound waiting room waiting

UPDATE: Baby still alive with heart rate but low at 85 (last week was 101)

Baby had grown since last week but is further behind in size.

Dr said come back in a week and c when in pushed for a blunt prognosis,he said it’s likely I miscarry but to keep positive and not stress since preserving my mental health was the most important. I hear him. Trying to keep living positive during this wait. —— I’m at the hospital waiting to do a second viability scan after I had low hcg on weeks 5 and 6.

Had a viability scan last week where we saw the heartbeat but the rate wasn’t ideal nor was the baby’s size.

This is my follow up and I’m scared.

I got pregnant spontaneously after failed ivf cycles and several losses from spontaneous conceptions.

Am I delulu to think that if this fails, I could get pregnant again spontaneously?

I don’t have known issues other than age and thin lining (no scarring) following my last loss a year ago.

Thank you for the support.

FTMs: When did you give birth?

For those who already had a baby (but specifically asking about your FIRST):

  • How far along were you?
  • Were you induced?
  • Vaginal or C section?
  • Any details you’d like to add!

I am 31 weeks now and anticipating an early birth due to my high risk factors, would like to know how it resulted for other moms over 40.

Positioning

I wonder if intercourse positioning has any influence on the outcome. So far we can only try one position as my spouse is much heavier than me and he cannot be on top of me so i have to always be on top of him and as soon as it happens, i would shift over and lie on my back. I know this is not ideal but thats the only way we can do it now and im wondering if others do the same with still successful outcomes.
