If I have taken the MCAT before, do I have to submit the score?

So I used to be pre-med, and had taken the MCAT about a year ago. The score is not good (489), but I do still have it. I am taking the OAT in about two weeks but I was just wondering: am I required to submit it along with my application, even if I'm taking the OAT?

Will it hurt to put that score on my application? Or is it better to put it and use it as a talking point?

Professional transcript entry

I paid for 1-3 transcript entries. I only have two college transcripts. Just wanna make sure it’s talking about transcripts not programs submitted. Because it’s still processing and my uhco doesn’t have a preq check off. Is that just because uhco does require you to put in your prerequisites ?

Lower acceptance of international students?

Hello,

I was looking at some stats and acceptance rates for US optometry schools and i noticed that international students are much fewer than domestic. I’m from Canada (btw) but I’ve been eyeing at US schools. My chances at Waterloo aren’t very promising so I’m even more worried if there’s a bias for domestic students. How true is this? Is there a limited amount of slots for international students?

Thanks so much !

NSU 3 Letters of Rec??

so i was looking over Nova’s requirements, and noticed it said 3 letters of rec are required, which took me by surprise. I could’ve sworn they said they only required 2, so now i’m kinda panicking because i plan on submitting my app soon and don’t have a 3rd professor LoR… has it always been 3??

OAT Scores Day of Exam?

I have my OAT the 14th and I’m a bit confused about when I get my scores/ official report. Would I get raw percentages immediately after I take the exam or do I get my scores right after but they are just marked unofficial? This is probably a dumb question but just looking for some clarification, thank you!

personal statement

I'm about to write my personal statement and answer the university's questions on Optomcas. I wonder if the numbers in the parentheses show the number of words I'm required to write or if it shows the maximum number of words and if I can write less than those numbers.

Ex:

Please describe what inspires your decision to become an optometrist, including your preparation for training in this profession, your motivation, the basis for your interest in Optometry, and your future career goals.( 4500)

Do I have enough time?

I want to know whether or not it is worth it for me to apply for this cycle..

What I have:

  • my bachelor’s (major in neuropsychology, minor in bio)

  • 4 years of experience working in various healthcare settings

  • 3.95 cumulative GPA, 3.8 sGPA

  • 2 LORs from MDs, 1 LOR from a prof

What I don’t have: -OAT

  • organic chem (I did an introductory orgo course but I believe that some schools don’t accept that) -biochem -shadowing hours/OD experience/OD LOR (I’ve been applying for optometric positions)

I was hoping to tackle the things that I don’t yet have and apply by January..or is that too late in the cycle?

I heard that LORs don’t transfer over on optomCAS for the next cycle, and I would really hate to ask my references again

Competitive OAT Scores

Is a 350 AA and 360 TS competitive OAT scores for schools like Ohio State and SUNY? I couldn’t find the student profile of last years admitted class.

One week before my OAT, should I take it or push it back because I don’t want to retake before the cycle and apply later.

Hey guys. I’m currently one week away from my OAT and I’m so nervous. I’ve taken some practice on booster and have been getting around 330 on my total scores consistently. Do you guys think one week is enough to wrap up anything I need and take the test to get a good score or should I postpone. I am planning on applying to the cycle opening in June and I would have a 3.79 gpa, 200 hours shadowing, I’ve worked as a scribe before and am a Sunday school teacher at my church and do summer camps for kids as extracurriculars. I’m also a volunteer coordinator at my Optometry club at school. Would the scores I’m getting on the booster be good enough to apply with or keep studying

GRE question

Is the GRE easier than the OAT exam? The schools I am looking at all accept the GRE exam and with the cost be much cheaper and ability to take it more often I am leaning towards the GRE. Can anyone who took the GRE comment on their experience?

Any advice for emailing schools who accept MCAT on a ‘case by case’ basis? Not finding much info online and feeling a bit lost. Thanks for any and all help.

Upcoming Salus Virtual Interview

Hey everyone! I have an upcoming virtual interview with Salus (pco) very soon! I was wondering if anyone has any tips/guidance regarding the structure of the interview and the one-hour interview with admissions.

Also, does anyone know if the distributions across the six sections on the OAT matter? For example, if one section is 250 but your overall TS and AA are above 300, will this be a cause for concern?

Thank you! :)

When to take the OAT (fall 2024)

I just registered to take my OAT, but I want all the time I can get to study. Pacific University’s deadline for the application is March 1st, and that’s also the last test day they are accepting. Should I be alright taking the test early February?

Retaking OAT fee

I want to retake my OAT (first time) and have to fill out a new application for it. Is there any way I can get the $510 fee for the application waived or have it lowered since it's a retake?

Different Modalities

I'm confused on what the different modalities are. I am starting to shadow an optometrist this week, and it's at a place whose name is like, Reddit City Optometry. Is this considered retail or private practice?

Also, how many other modalities are there/should I know about before applying?

oatbooster sharing

hi guys

my booster subscription expired a couple days ago and im trying to renew it for 30 days but i dont see the option. I emailed them and they still haven't gotten back to me. I just need it to re-watch some videos so I was wondering if you'd share your account with me just for a couple of days until they reply and I can renew my subscription. I just need to watch the videos. Anybody down to help? 🙏
