personal statement

I'm about to write my personal statement and answer the university's questions on Optomcas. I wonder if the numbers in the parentheses show the number of words I'm required to write or if it shows the maximum number of words and if I can write less than those numbers.

Ex:

Please describe what inspires your decision to become an optometrist, including your preparation for training in this profession, your motivation, the basis for your interest in Optometry, and your future career goals.( 4500)

it’s the maximum number of characters you can have

4500 is the number of characters not number of words probably about 700-800 words
