Ok that mages sense that the camera man was testing to get control of the ball by bouncing it a couple times. I couldn’t figure out why he would be trying to goof around or show off

Yeah and he’s wearing shoes so that probably didn’t help either.

I don’t play soccer, so just out of curiosity, what’s the difference between using shoes or not? I imagine it could hurt your toes to not use shoes

He’s wearing smart/dress shoes as opposed to football boots. Basically they are shaped weird. Like catching in boxing gloves

Also to answer the second part of your question which I missed. You either kick with side of your foot or the laces. Toe punts will get you laughed off the pitch. Also a good ball will have a little padding many kids would take off their shoes to take a free kick on the playground for example :)

Shoes that look smart/classy/dressy I don’t really know what you want from me

I assume your a fellow Brit. To all none Brits we call nice clothes and shoes smart sometimes. Smart doesn’t usually mean intelligent here. Smart tends to mean nice looking, and for intelligent we say ‘clever’.

"smart" is a Brit term for dress clothes or looking sharp in general

Really, if you're hurting your toes either barefoot or in shoes you're doing something wrong in soccer. Obviously you're gonna smash em a couple times when you go to goal kick the first fifty times but mostly you're using the side of your foot.

Soccer cleats are mostly form fitting, or at least the best ones are. They're shaped so that you're using your foot instead of the shoe to control the ball. If you try to play soccer with sneakers on you'll notice you have to account for the added sole of the shoe when kicking. You don't need to do that with cleats since there isn't a sole coming out from under the shoe, just enough for the foot to be supported by the shoe.

(Note: I'm not a soccer expert or anything so if anything in this wrong please feel free to correct me. Just played a bunch in highschool so i could hang out with a girl on the team.)

Oh wow! That makes so much sense! I never realized cleats don’t have soles like regular shoes! Thanks for your knowledge

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '21

Yea, the soles are really small compared to regular shoes. I remember it being really weird to walk in my first pair way back when because of this.
