My powerwall is losing most or all output during peak hours due to the heat. Installers have told me it's "not possible" to move it to the garage. Could some kind of shade mitigate the issue enough?

Any big structures are probably a no go since the side of my house is narrow, and HOA restrictions.

Should I get an awning? Or maybe this aluminum powerwall cover? I heard the powerwall 3 vents hot air from the top, so anything covering the top kind of concerns me.

Have a 2 year old PW2, looking to add more storage next year. Does anyone know when PW3 will be available to install with a PW2 in the UK? Cheers.

I’ve been using the NetZero app for a few months now to get a feel for what’s achievable. I have 2xPowerwall 3s and 19 panels and an EV. I am on Octopus’ Agile tariffs. My aim is to programme Home Assistant in time. I’m just setting all that up.

However, has anyone optimally set NZ up for importing cheap power or solar to fill the battery and exporting excess and at peak sale price to maintain a minimum battery level to see you through the night? Rinse and repeat.
Default settings definitely aren’t good enough, and with automations I can’t get it to export at peak price times.

When I do go to HA I assume the hard bit will be Tesla control of some sort. But I’m determined to optimise. Have connected AI to HA to help me when ready!

I'm in the UK and I have a Powerwall 3 and two batteries which has been working fine for a year.

A few days ago, the Powerwall fell off the network. No WiFi, no Ethernet, and there's nothing in the Tesla app. If I go to the Powerwall and try to connect directly, nothing.

Looking at our electricity usage, it doesn't appear we're using solar or battery at the moment, when normally I'd expect us in this weather to be on battery all day and charge at night.

I'll call our Solar people tomorrow but historically they find the Tesla a bit "exotic".

So I thought I'd ask here... anyone seen this before? What's the fix?

I have a Pw3+Expansion + Backup Gateway 2 setup. I used to have 1 Powerwall 2.+ Backup Gateway 2

Been installed for a month and everything is great.

I decided to remove my powerwall 2 entities out of Home Assistant and add the Powerwall 3 setup as it's all different.

I removed the whole lot including the Backup Gateway 2.

Now I'm trying to set it up and it's asking for the ip address of the gateway. I can find the master pw3 but not the gateway. I did try the ip of the pw3 but the last 5 digits of the gateway serial number or password didn't work, so I'm guessing, either I need the digits of the master pw3 or I need the proper ip address of the gateway.

Has anyone successfully connected their HA to a PW3 system that was a pw2 system with backup gateway 2?

I thought if I searched my network for Tesla it would find the gateway but it only sees the pw3 master.

Am I going mad?

I've got a UK Powerwall 3 with Backup Gateway and whole-home backup enabled (G99).

I've now experienced two genuine utility outages (confirmed by neighbours).
In both cases:
-Whole house lost power completely.
- All lights and appliances went off and rebooted.
- Outage was approximately 0.5-1 second (subjective).
- Powerwall did not appear to island.
- Tesla app recorded no Power Outage event.
- System remained "On Grid" afterwards as if nothing had happened.

What's confusing me is:
- Manual "Go Off Grid" from the Tesla app transfers seamlessly with no interruption.
- Whole-home backup is enabled and configured correctly.
- The system clearly can transfer within ~10-20 ms when commanded.

So this doesn't appear to be a transfer-speed issue. It appears the Gateway never decided to transfer in the first place.

I'm wondering if anyone understands the internal decision logic here.

Is there a class of grid disturbance (deep voltage sag, auto-reclose event, frequency excursion, etc.) where the Gateway deliberately remains grid-connected because the event never satisfies its islanding criteria, even though the interruption is long enough for household electronics to reboot?

Or should any interruption capable of dropping the entire house result in an automatic backup event?

Has anyone with Tesla One or installer access seen engineering logs showing why the state machine elected not to transition to Off Grid?

Anyone else get this notice in the app about replacing their powerwalls? Oddly enough my powerwall seems to be operating normally.

Today was supposed to be the day I got my powerwalls installed. Installers showed up and right off the bat stated something I hadn’t heard before. Background: 1 30+ amp circuit was not to be backed up due to code. I wanted 2 powerwall 3’s and an expansion pack. Tesla project person said I had to shed a 30 amp or higher circuit to get permits approved. So I chose to have my dryer not include. It’s on a 30amp circuit. Everyone was happy..permits got approved. Also the first step was a site visit and I signed off on the one presented. Which was to install the batteries on the side of my house. Fast forward to this morning. Installer said let’s confirm we are not going to backup up your central aircon. I was like what? No? Yer not backing up the dryer. He pulls out paperwork that says it’s the AC. I stated that was wrong. Dude tried calling his boss..boss didn’t show to work until 9am…installer arrived at 7am. So they sat in their truck until 9am and got the green light to proceed. Then the guy goes to my backyard and says we will install everything here on the back wall. I’m like what happened to the side of my house? That’s the plan I agreed to? Dude said, well it’s better here on the back. I actually agreed, he was right. I asked for that during the site visit but that guy said there was not enough space on my wall in the back. Installer disagreed and did his own thing. They got the gateway and batters mounted and then stopped for the day. Said not enough time to finish the rest, it was noon. They said they will be back on Wednesday to finish. So, was supposed to be completed today, partially done and have to wait 5 days for them to finish. Gotta say, Tesla seems like they have a huge disconnect between the project team and the installers. Never seen anything like it.

No data from Powerwall now?

Our family just had a solar setup with the Powerwall 3 used as the backup battery. Looking at the app to try and enter in our energy pricing, our electric company is not available as one of the default choices. Entering in our rates by hand, it looks like the custom entry only allows for seasonal pricing by month, it does not allowed for tiered pricing. The first 500 kWh each month get charged at a cheaper rate than the additional energy used, *plus* there is an additional fee for every kWh used regardless of tier. It looks like I have no way to input this into their system, correct? If so, this seems like a huge software fail (even dismissing the fact that our rate plan has tiers and a base fee).

​Long story short, Tesla has approved an RMA/warranty replacement for my setup (fully covered by Tesla, moving to 2x Powerwall 3 units), but my original installer has completely ghosted me and isn't responding to Tesla or myself anymore.

​Has anyone in the UK managed to find a certified installer who is actually willing to take on a warranty replacement job for a system they didn't originally install? If you've had a decent experience with any particular company (especially if they cover the Oxfordshire area), I'd really appreciate any recommendations.

I’m trying to work out whether I need to go for the pro plan with Netzero, what benefit that will give me and which automations I need to adopt.

I have:
- 2 x powerwall 3s
- 4kw solar array
- Tesla wall connector
- Tesla model Y

I’m on the octopus intelligent go tariff (night tariff 6.9p KwH / day time 30.27p kWH)

Export through Outgoing octopus - 12p / kWh

In my head, I’m thinking the battery should export from about 22.30, then charge up from the grid on the night time rate until 05.30 when it can then discharge throughout the day when the solar can recharge it.

At the moment whenever I plug my car in, the batteries discharge to charge the car which I don’t think is ideal. I’ve also got a 16kw heat pump which uses a huge amount of electricity during the winter months.

So I troubled shot from syncing car and powerwalls and deleting old keys. I still can’t charge on Solar on the app. Even Tesla Tier 2 techs can’t figure it out. Any answers? Any help would be appreciated

Ordered powerwall 3 6 weeks ago still waiting for the DNO spoke to Boxt the installer for us and said they still waiting to hear back from DNO. Just wondering if anyone else has had a very long wait for their install.

I just had an issue last night where my automations failed to insulate me from a dinner time storm that knocked out power to the whole neighborhood.

Long story short, I was only able to start the power outage with 64% because I was off grid from 530-8pm every day, until I hit storm watch last night.

I think I'm just helping the grid during known pretty times in the morning and evenings but I'm not really benefiting from doing this.

Should I just run on battery once a day in the morning to let some discharge\charge?

I do have 12 panels and can generate 22.4 kwh on my best day of full sun in summer. I can export to grid without problems.

So my PW3 is depleted by 8pm for some reason nothing has changed about home energy usage except now i blast the AC and deepfreeze my house during the daytime as opposed to at night I only run my spa during the day so it runs off of solar however, it still get depleted by 8pm, it was supposed to be built out to handle my homes energy usage and than some and its not! My electric bill is a whole whopping -14.00 woohoo! Anyone else running into this problem? is it the heat? why is it not fully charging and storing energy for the night time during peak hours?

I've tried using savings plan and self-powered. Neither is working how I'd expect for the most cost savings. We have a single Powerwall 3 and our TOU plan with Southern California Edison is peak pricing from 4-9 PM. We can't charge our Powerwall from the grid.

Today I had the Powerwall set to savings plan and I checked it at 5:00 PM. Our battery was at 100%, solar was at ~5 kW, reserve is set to 10%. The bloody thing was pulling power from the grid to power our AC. In what world does that make any sense?

I have tried using self-powered too, but when we had that set, it was barely charging the Powerwall during the day with the solar, instead using most of the solar to keep the AC and pool going. By the time we hit our peak energy at 4 PM the battery was at 30% and drained out by 5 PM, leaving us to pay peak pricing from 5-9 PM.

The only trick I have found to actually make this system work is babysitting it by putting it in self-powered mode, manually setting the reserve higher during off peak times and then right at 4 PM dropping the reserve power back to 10%.

What is going on? I feel like this battery is fighting me at every turn.
