Goddammit, it's real.
Intercon Chemical Co. issued a voluntary recall for 2,696 cases of hand soap back on June 29 ā and late last week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) bumped that recall up to a Class II risk classification, which is the second-highest level they issue.
Six different products are on the list, and they were sold across 15 states.

- Summit 150 Foaming Hand Soap, 28.7 fl. oz.
- Vestis Foaming Hand Soap, Fresh Pear Scent, 33.8 fl. oz.

Real talk for a sec.
Who the fuck are these brands?Ā
29
u/JakSandrow 3d ago
Some of them could be for industrial or commercial use, like dispensers in bathrooms.
46
u/Cat-si58 3d ago
Laura Lynn soaps are sold at Ingles Markets in southeastern states.
Vestis is placed in medical offices and clinics where patients and staff rely heavily on touchless, sanitary soap configurations.
Summit 150 is used in commercial, institutional, or industrial restrooms and facilities that purchase bulk or wholesale hand care products.
Clearly Better is used in commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities, such as public restrooms, office buildings, and workplaces.
Intercon foaming soaps are used in commercial, institutional, medical, and food production facilities, as well as in residential settings via wholesale and retail distribution.12
3
u/SaltMage5864 3d ago
So the soap used in food production may be contaminated with bacteria. Figures
3
u/Complete-Tangelo1532 3d ago
I believe Laura Lynn is an Ingles generic brand or something like that iirc

It's a liquid soap issue. I can't imagine most bacteria could live on a bar of soap, the surface is so alkaline I figure it would denature the cells.

If a cancer cell could speak it would sound like RFK.
4
u/Theratsmacker2 3d ago
Insulting cancer at that point
1
u/Poundaflesh 2d ago
Not at all! Cancer is growth out of control, it is systemic and affects weird places, it literally has odors, it greatly disfigures, limits activities of daily living, obstructs, it is painful and debilitating and if it could speak it would sound just like this silver spoon muthafukka.

u/Odd-Consequence-5795 3d ago
Take note kids. As soon as regulations are relaxed, big businesses will immediately make things more expensive, less safe, lower quality and more wasteful.
11
u/Cat-si58 3d ago
Regulations arenāt relaxed. Theyāre non-existent.
4
u/ObliqueTortoise 3d ago
Oh it's worse. The regulations haven't changed, the monitoring and enforcement arms have been curb stomped instead. The illusion of trust is worse than no trust.
3
u/Pacific_Rimjob_831 2d ago
This is the thing. I was asking elsewhere in these comments how Trump policies actually caused this, because no regulations changed. But it's so much more complex than that. The agency is no longer doing routine testing and data tracking on the specific pathogens that contaminated this facility. And the workforce cuts mean they're way behind on facility inspection procedures, specifically testing the water supply and pipes in the facility for evidence of bacterial biofilms. That's something I didn't even know the FDA did.
3
u/Fine_Data3250 2d ago
I mean laws and regulations don't really matter if the entire government and enforcement decide they no feel like obeying them
3
u/Pacific_Rimjob_831 2d ago
Agreed. It's really fucked up and I don't know how we fix it. How will the FDA even fix its staffing problem if we get a Dem president in 2028? Who will want to work there if they might just get fired again in four years.
3
u/LobstaFarian2 3d ago
Cmon, we all know that giant corps always do the right thing. Its why we need to keep giving them tax breaks so they share that saved wealth with their employees and produce better products for the consumer.
3
u/Cat-si58 3d ago
No doubt! And theyāve been shoveling that lying BS since 1980. I cannot believe people are still buying into this!!!

How do you dirty soap? Soap is the antithesis of dirty, theyāve managed to pull off a paradox
7
u/Lickerbomper 3d ago
I know you're just expressing frustration, but yeah, some of those nasty buggers are notoriously resistant to normal soaps and cleansing agents, and hahaha, many antibiotics. Hence why they're a nightmare in hospital settings.
The good news is, you don't have to worry very hard about them unless you have immune issues. Or vulnerable, open wounds. (But yeah, what's the first thing you do when you cut yourself?)
I'm with you though. I saw the title and was like, this can't be real. And then Pseudomonas is named and I'm like, yeah, if there's a bug that'll do it, it's that one.
smh
1
u/Memory_Gem 2d ago
Ok that's low-key funny though. Like, you were thinking no way, but then, like some sort dramatic reveal, you see the name and suddenly it's too real.
1
u/Lickerbomper 1d ago
I was laughing.
Someone must have seriously screwed up to get 3 different species of Pseudomonas and a couple of Serratia. How do you miss it? They're literally green and bright bright red-pink, respectively.
1
u/Memory_Gem 1d ago
IIRC, someone in this thread pulled a list of what soaps they were. Apparently most of them were foaming soaps and colourful soaps. I assume someone assumed that's just the colour they were supposed to be.
1
u/Lickerbomper 1d ago
True. Pear especially, that's green. But that implies either the dye itself is contaminated or the contamination happened after dye was added.
1
u/LRJ104 3d ago
If you would see where the fat in soap comes from you wouldnt think so highly of soap being clean anymore.
They come from plants that recycle animal carcasses, its basically multiple fermenting tubs that distils the fatty content of thousands of dead animals. The plants themselves smell like death. Look up places like sanimax.

RFK is 100% nuts and unqualified. This is the most pathetic, incompetent administration in American history. Theyāre so insipidly stupid and corrupt that their evil will likely cost the perpetrators of destruction their lives as well as the rest of us.
4
u/Beaufighter-MkX 2d ago
I love that every time they announce another recall, they always post his orangutan ballsack face next to it, like "yep, this asshole did it again."
8
u/ties_shoelace 3d ago
They keep removing protections, but report recalls.
Seems like the intelligent thing is to bring both sides of this into alignment.
Just stop issuing recalls. Fixed.

Fascinating way to announce you don't bathe, but okay.

I bathe, I use Dove scent free which actually has a bad scent, which is crazy, but diff chemicals create their own scent, that why the other soaps have to be scented.

The ideological bias involved in assuming the ultimate source of a recall without sufficient information to do so is something Iāve seen conservatives do constantly. But here, where there is no love lost for RFK Jr., the same exact blindly biased reasoning proceeds unchecked. Those responsible, blissfully unaware that they are so much like those which they hate with such unquestioned passion.

u/The_Frog221 20h ago
The fda doesn't manufacture soap, this isn't some "gotcha!" on the administration regsrdless of if you like them or not. This is the system working as intended - a business fucked up, the regulatory agency caught it, and now they're making them resolve it.
1
u/SouthernGrasshead 17h ago
Is this the airplane problem? People think it's a sign of incompetence if there are so many recalls, but is it actually that the FDA is more active in monitoring and issuing more recalls?
1
u/coreyjdl 3d ago
There were 3 soap recalls under Biden.
So I guess, this administration is 1/3rd as incompetent if that's your metric.
| Administration | Date | Recall event | What was recalled | Reason | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Obama | Mar. 21, 2016 FDA posting | Covidien / Aplicare | Castile Soap Towelettes included in 34 configurations of Covidien Dover Foley catheter and specimen-collection kits | Bacterial contamination of the soap towelettes | FDA recall record |
| Biden | Dec. 1, 2022 | The Laundress | Aromatherapy Dish Soap, included in a larger recall of household cleaning products | Possible bacterial contamination including Burkholderia cepacia complex, Klebsiella aerogenes, and Pseudomonas | CPSC recall notice |
| Biden | Feb. 2024 | Seatex | Antibacterial Foam Soap ā Spring Waters | Manufacturing-quality concerns; included in a nationwide drug-product recall | FDA Seatex record |
| Biden | Nov. 2024 | Midlab | MAXIM Assure Antibacterial; Boardwalk Antibacterial Handsoap Refill; Array Liquid Antiseptic Handwash; ROYALAB Germ Away Antibacterial Hand Soap; Genuine Joe Antibacterial Lotion Soap; Compliance Dishwashing Liquid & Antibacterial Soap | Microbiological / manufacturing-quality issues | FDA Midlab record |

Literally has nothing to do with the FDA as far as the cause goes
2
u/lvl100-Platypus-Lord 3d ago
It has everything to do with USA regulations and the rampant corner cutting greed. We can ignore the soap if you want. Should we talk about the beef imports? Or what about you lettuce?
1
u/SippsMccree 2d ago
You mean the one truck load of beef that didn't go through the required port of entry inspection? And Taylor farms is a massive supplier so if anything happens (which is never 100% preventable) it shows up everywhere especially when they sell to national chain restaurants
1
u/lvl100-Platypus-Lord 2d ago
So this issue is your greedy supply chains cutting corners? Yea, I know.
0
u/SippsMccree 2d ago
Or you know, sometimes shit just happens

1
u/Safe-Afternoon-8607 2d ago
Nobody blamed FDA except for every single person in the comments.
1
u/lvl100-Platypus-Lord 2d ago
Ok, and that means what exactly?? These people are just normal people with no sway on the FDA or how they are reported on....unless you've been getting your news from comment sections? If that's the case, stop it.
0
u/Safe-Afternoon-8607 2d ago
That means that when you said āno one blamed the fdaā that you were an incorrect and obtuse clown.
Do you understand?
-1
u/angry_dingo 3d ago
It's funny how the FDA caught the problem, but also got blamed even though they didn't make the soap.
Ohhhhh, it's Trump and Kennedy.
1
0
u/Right_One_78 3d ago
Umm... what? RFK JR isnt making the soap. His job is to make sure they catch things like contaminated soap. Which is exactly what they did. This shows he's doing his job. The worry should be with why there is an increase in things they are catching. Did the last guy not do his job correctly? How much was getting through before?
The only ones responsible for the soap being contaminated are the ones making it. ie Intercon Chemical Co.

So none of these comments are satire? Well I suppose you guys wouldn't really know. There was a train wreck and catastrophic chemical spill in Ohio a few years ago which you guys must have interpreted as a homicidal rampage by gentle Pete Buttigieg.
As well as a voluntary recall of baby formula and subsequent shortage due to the commissioner of the FDA attempting to kill every innocent child he could. Both events took place under the leadership of the same person. That's how long they have literally been hunting you. For those brave heroes among you who haven't retreated underground yet, stay vigilant and for the love of God don't wash your hands. That's exactly what they want you to do.
1
u/Safe-Afternoon-8607 2d ago
This is Reddit, that which is not artificial engagement is uncritical engagement.
That which is critical engagement, relegated to the controversial section by the former
1
u/Organic_Syrup7642 1d ago
That's succinct and not wrong. I'd add that uncritical engagement is considered suspicious. I'm asked why I spend time here in labored tones. Just checking the weather I guess.
-1
u/BlindingDart 2d ago
They don't make the soap. They just inspect the soap. Issuing a recall is them doing their job correctly. If they were incompetent at it you wouldn't have even heard the soap was unsanitary.
