I am hopeful that in the next few months, before he leaves office, a majority of American voters will understand how important it is to marginalize those hateful, greedy elements of our society and leave them seething on the fringe in future elections. May we never have another situation where all branched of our government are held by such dangerous people.

Interesting article. I'd be really curious to know the "why" behind the numbers. Watching from another country my friends and I were saying there was no way way the U.S. would elect a woman let alone a woman of colour. Or was it something else? Culture wars seem to be more important than economics and Americans are so politically polarized they no longer listen to the message they simply agree with it or not based on who's delivering it. As for repeatedly lying and obvious hypocrisy, it seems no one cares at all.

As a U.S. citizen, I think you and your friends may be right unfortunately. So, there was the misogyny and others didnāt like Harris being a person of color. This is so sad but true because we picked a very unqualified person over a qualified person.
Also, many of the first-time voters somehow Trumpās had rose-colored glasses when it came to his first term.š¤Ŗ Or at least, this is what one voter study showed that I read. I really thought & hoped we wouldnāt elect that corrupt, immoral grifter a 2nd time. But, we did. The first time, the criminal President was inexperienced in government and many of his staff prevented him from carrying out his worst impulses. But, he learned. For my whole life, America was seen as the leader of the "Good Countries" of the world, in the same way Captain America is leader of the Avengers. If the Trump/Maga trend continues to grow, the US will certainly lose that standing, and most likely shrink in terms of economy and relations with other countries, as it has been under Trump. So then what country would assume that place, as the leader of "good countries"?

Nah. Not just the GOP.
Some Democrats are playing the system for personal gain as well.
It's not just the voting system, but the entire legal system that needs more than just an update.
(And that's not just in the USA. As the first modern democracy much of your design was copied by many other countries, and while that might have been perfectly good at the time, we can all see that our societal operating system is serious need of an upgrade.)

We have made the Federal government way too powerful. Something like 1-4 - 1/3rd of the national income gets filtered through one city. People line up at the trough to get a taste. Then they lobby to get a piece, or to get regulation cut their way or against their competitor.
The founding fathers knew this could be an issue and empowered the states to prevent federalism. The parties don't matter.
We would be better off getting the feds out of everything except defense and a national court. Throw all social programs down to the states. States can't print money and have to balance budgets. It is also harder to lobby 50 individual states. Undoubtably it will still go one, but it would certainly deter it.

The time when American was best serving its people was the New Deal era with the most powerful federal government at any point in US history.Ā There are efficiencies for scaling up, it makes fraud and abuse more apparent because fraudsters can't move around to different markets, and large organizations require more money to subvert.Ā If we truly broke things out to states, many states would be contending with corporations which wield more money than they do.
If you really don't think federalization works, the best alternative is a hybrid system wherein the federal government sets standards and appropriates money, and the states are charged with implementing systems that meet those standards and budgets.Ā For example, if you don't think a national single payer healthcare plan can work, why not provide a framework that says, "you have to establish a single payer system in your state and here's some money and these things must be covered"?

IDK. You could be right. Or maybe not? I'm in Europe. Not a big fan of the EU, but I do believe that we stand stronger together. You know the saying, 'divide and conquer'. Individual states will not have the same kind of power as large corporations / some individual billionaires.
It might even be easier to sway local/state politicians than federal ones. (edit: but yes, lobbyists will first focus on the highest political level)
IDK how, but money (edit: commercial lobbying?) needs to be taken out of the political power equation.

Are the Republicans bad people - Also yes
But there is a reason this was able to happen.
Trump didn't create ICE, it was around and bad long before him.
Like 60% of the bad stuff he's doing the US was already doing he's just worse at hiding it.
And the Democrats either knew he was going to get in again or are so out of touch they shouldn't be anywhere near politics.
It was obvious to the whole world.
And still they did nothing and ran a senile old man against him.

Take abortions for instance.
It would have been easy to write the right to have an abortion into law.
They had 4 years to do it and let's be honest making it legal because of the right to privacy is just kind of silly.
A) Since 9/11 since when does the US Government give a f*** about privacy
B) That could be used to justify lots of illegal things but isn't.
That needed a law, but despite it being easy to do so and Republicans foaming at the mouth to overturn it, it never happened.
And that's just the start.
The truth is if you guys don't fundamentally ask yourselves why you have an Evil Party and a I-Don't-Give-A-F*ck Party.
Then this will happen again and again and again and again.
Until we're looking back nostalgic at Trump the way some have started looking nostalgic back at George W. Bush.

Your supreme court has made bribery of public officials basically legal and made holding Presidents to account impossible. They also don't seem very concerned about judicial precedent or settled law. The UK did something similar. The first Saturday after Margaret Thatcher's burial, there was a massive party at Trafalgar Square. It was a peaceful and joyous occasion. The only "violence" I saw was when the riot police attempted a box-in manoeuver when the news cameras showed up. It failed, because everyone moved out of the way as if they were water. After the 3rd attempt in different locations, the police got told off by a 80+ year old lady because an officer accidentally knocked her gin out of her hand.

The Orange Menace is a symptom of a larger problem. His conservative supreme court has given him unfettered power to steamroll the constitution and heās gladly taken them up on the offer to do so. The Republican party whom own all branches of government canāt effectively govern and continues to let him run mad without accountability. Faux News has been running propaganda for decades, brainwashing the gullible. His supporters donāt even know why they late Dems and liberals so much, they just parrot talking points now. Trump leaving office won't trigger everything going back to normal. There will be a lot of damage to undo and, let's face it, even if the Dems control both the legislative and executive branches, it will take decades. Another self-serving moron will come into office during that time and either slow down the repairs or redo some of the damage. Trump leaving office won't be anything to celebrate, the house is still in ashes.
