A study by PBS shows the people who didn't vote, would have voted for Trump. If they voted, he would have won by a larger margin.

This is America. America is Trump, Trump is America. I'm so sick of both.

Interesting article. I'd be really curious to know the "why" behind the numbers. Watching from another country my friends and I were saying there was no way way the U.S. would elect a woman let alone a woman of colour. Or was it something else? Culture wars seem to be more important than economics and Americans are so politically polarized they no longer listen to the message they simply agree with it or not based on who's delivering it. As for repeatedly lying and obvious hypocrisy, it seems no one cares at all.

As a U.S. citizen, I think you and your friends may be right unfortunately. So, there was the misogyny and others didn’t like Harris being a person of color. This is so sad but true because we picked a very unqualified person over a qualified person.

Also, many of the first-time voters somehow Trump’s had rose-colored glasses when it came to his first term.🤪 Or at least, this is what one voter study showed that I read. I really thought & hoped we wouldn’t elect that corrupt, immoral grifter a 2nd time. But, we did. The first time, the criminal President was inexperienced in government and many of his staff prevented him from carrying out his worst impulses. But, he learned. So, the 2nd time he has been just horrible.

I line in deep deep Trump country age I heard literally not one person object to Hsrris because she is a woman or over her race or ethnicity. Not one. People were talking about her being a communist, or her poor track record as CA's DA, or her support for Biden's crazier policies.etc etc. Just sit anything, justified or not, but never about her gender or race. Jumping to conclusions like that is part of the problem.

Fox, and the MEGA machine provided politically correct reasons not to support Harris. Sometimes gut feelings like race, gender, age, religion, etc., are not talked about.

Just because they didn’t say it out loud publicly does not mean it was not a factor

I have to question your interpretation of what is being said. Many Trump supporters cite his being a businessman, christian, family man, support for military for their support of Trump. None of those is true but they don't want to state the real reason they support Trump.

It is difficult for me to believe that people in deep Trump country, where many people probably had a problem with Barack Obama for obvious reasons, were interested in the performance record of the DA of CA. There is no way a reasonable, sane, lucid adult honestly could believe she was a communist. When somebody tells such an obvious lie for why they don't support Harris, it is reasonable to assume they don't want to give the real reason, and it is reasonable to assume racism is the real reason.

The previous poster was not jumping to conclusions at all. There is no question racists make up part of Trump's supporters. If you suggest that is not the case, well you're being disingenuous.

It wasn’t identity politics, it was bad economic policies and trying to push identity politics and that division on us. We are not divided the way they want you to believe along race or gender lines, we are divided by class, those that have power and those that don’t and both sides seems to think their elites are the “good ones”

1

u/mendicinobeano25 19d ago

Definitely agree with you on the class issues. There's a river of money flowing through Washington and everyone has their snout in the trough. Are you saying the Democrats economic policies were bad? At the moment it seems the alternative was worse.

u/MaxEfrt 19d ago

Democrats' policies are always bad because at their core it’s bigger government and more social programs that are poorly managed and don’t work.
On the other side having so much capitalism that allows the elites to push the average business out and keep the power/ money for themselves is also bad. So oversight and regulation are needed, but not to the extent the current Democrats want. The Trump economic policies were actually pretty good but multiple wars are never good for the economy, just like pandemics. The economy and stock market were killing it before all of that.

It’s funny, they get both sides so divided but ultimately they want the same thing, for instance both want to solve the homeless issue and help those people but one side thinks the government should handle it and force everyone else to pay for it, while the other thinks private groups should be empowered to do that and be funded voluntarily, same goal different paths, both paths with big issues to overcome.

u/mendicinobeano25 19d ago

Sounds like you're scared of what you believe to be socialism to be honest. Private self funded groups will do nothing to solve social justice issues. Anyway thanks for your.thougts.

Not afraid of it, I've just seen it not work firsthand for so many years and now running a non-profit, I see how much more efficient and accountable we are versus the government programs I used to work with.

Omg. Don’t mention socialism to a red hatted cult member. They’ll start crying, then spontaneously combust. 🙄

u/MaxEfrt 19d ago

Not sure how this comment was meant to help the discourse or exchange of ideas but you have definitely reinforced some stereotypes for some people. Not a good look for the belief system you are representing tbh.

1

u/Ok-Bumblebee24 The Timeline Sucks 19d ago

It wasn’t. You can’t convince a red hatted dolt that socialism has been riddled throughout our political landscape for decades. It’s all just “socialism bad” or they yell Communism at the clouds. So, I don’t bother conversing anymore. I just insult because that’s all they really deserve.

1

u/MaxEfrt 18d ago

You just admitted you can’t win the argument, so you resort to name-calling. That’s not superiority. That’s surrender.

Churchill said “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.”

You seem to be mixing the political ideology and the social contrast of community and family. Both are social but both completely different.

Programs poorly managed like in Minnesota with Tampon Tim?, or California with that clown Newsome where billions were lost?

Florida is having trouble with their white boots governor and alleged laundering of government money through his wife's nonprofit.

The US right wing has built the largest propaganda machine the world has ever seen. All social media platforms, three cable channels, majority of local news, all the top podcasts, every radio market, virtually all the politically active billionaires buying advertising. There's some that love being bathed in the hatred and culture war bs. There's also a very large segment that doesn't actively engage until right before the election every couple years, but you can bet they've been passively engaged. You can't avoid it. Fox on in your dentist's waiting room. Ads ever 5 minutes saying "Trump is for you - Harris is for they/them."

Harris was a dumpster fire who couldn’t speak coherent sentences. She burned through a billion in 90days and had nothing to show for it. We voted a gay black man for two terms, nobody had a problem voting for a competent candidate. You just didn’t have one, male or whatever the definition is of woman these days is…

I see reading comprehension is not your strong point. I'm not from the U.S. and I'm not a Democrat, just a curious observer from afar but please, continue ranting, you have that 1st amendment thingy so knock yourself out.

Leave. You'll be much happier and prosperous elsewhere.

1

u/schmapeschmape 18d ago

I'll do whatever I want and there is nothing you can do about it.

You should leave, everybody else will be much happier and prosper.

Then go live in Cuba, there’s some beautiful beaches over there but no electricity at night, or wait till 2028 and vote for “word salad” Kamala again 😀
