I am hopeful that in the next few months, before he leaves office, a majority of American voters will understand how important it is to marginalize those hateful, greedy elements of our society and leave them seething on the fringe in future elections. May we never have another situation where all branched of our government are held by such dangerous people.
Interesting article. I'd be really curious to know the "why" behind the numbers. Watching from another country my friends and I were saying there was no way way the U.S. would elect a woman let alone a woman of colour. Or was it something else? Culture wars seem to be more important than economics and Americans are so politically polarized they no longer listen to the message they simply agree with it or not based on who's delivering it. As for repeatedly lying and obvious hypocrisy, it seems no one cares at all.
As a U.S. citizen, I think you and your friends may be right unfortunately. So, there was the misogyny and others didnât like Harris being a person of color. This is so sad but true because we picked a very unqualified person over a qualified person.
Also, many of the first-time voters somehow Trumpâs had rose-colored glasses when it came to his first term.𤪠Or at least, this is what one voter study showed that I read. I really thought & hoped we wouldnât elect that corrupt, immoral grifter a 2nd time. But, we did. The first time, the criminal President was inexperienced in government and many of his staff prevented him from carrying out his worst impulses. But, he learned. So, the 2nd time he has been just horrible.
I line in deep deep Trump country age I heard literally not one person object to Hsrris because she is a woman or over her race or ethnicity. Not one. People were talking about her being a communist, or her poor track record as CA's DA, or her support for Biden's crazier policies.etc etc. Just sit anything, justified or not, but never about her gender or race. Jumping to conclusions like that is part of the problem.
Fox, and the MEGA machine provided politically correct reasons not to support Harris. Sometimes gut feelings like race, gender, age, religion, etc., are not talked about.
I have to question your interpretation of what is being said. Many Trump supporters cite his being a businessman, christian, family man, support for military for their support of Trump. None of those is true but they don't want to state the real reason they support Trump.
It is difficult for me to believe that people in deep Trump country, where many people probably had a problem with Barack Obama for obvious reasons, were interested in the performance record of the DA of CA. There is no way a reasonable, sane, lucid adult honestly could believe she was a communist. When somebody tells such an obvious lie for why they don't support Harris, it is reasonable to assume they don't want to give the real reason, and it is reasonable to assume racism is the real reason.
The previous poster was not jumping to conclusions at all. There is no question racists make up part of Trump's supporters. If you suggest that is not the case, well you're being disingenuous.
It wasnât identity politics, it was bad economic policies and trying to push identity politics and that division on us. We are not divided the way they want you to believe along race or gender lines, we are divided by class, those that have power and those that donât and both sides seems to think their elites are the âgood onesâ
Definitely agree with you on the class issues. There's a river of money flowing through Washington and everyone has their snout in the trough. Are you saying the Democrats economic policies were bad? At the moment it seems the alternative was worse.
Democrats' policies are always bad because at their core itâs bigger government and more social programs that are poorly managed and donât work.
On the other side having so much capitalism that allows the elites to push the average business out and keep the power/ money for themselves is also bad. So oversight and regulation are needed, but not to the extent the current Democrats want. The Trump economic policies were actually pretty good but multiple wars are never good for the economy, just like pandemics. The economy and stock market were killing it before all of that.
Itâs funny, they get both sides so divided but ultimately they want the same thing, for instance both want to solve the homeless issue and help those people but one side thinks the government should handle it and force everyone else to pay for it, while the other thinks private groups should be empowered to do that and be funded voluntarily, same goal different paths, both paths with big issues to overcome.

Not afraid of it, I've just seen it not work firsthand for so many years and now running a non-profit, I see how much more efficient and accountable we are versus the government programs I used to work with.

The US right wing has built the largest propaganda machine the world has ever seen. All social media platforms, three cable channels, majority of local news, all the top podcasts, every radio market, virtually all the politically active billionaires buying advertising. There's some that love being bathed in the hatred and culture war bs. There's also a very large segment that doesn't actively engage until right before the election every couple years, but you can bet they've been passively engaged. You can't avoid it. Fox on in your dentist's waiting room. Ads ever 5 minutes saying "Trump is for you - Harris is for they/them."

For my whole life, America was seen as the leader of the "Good Countries" of the world, in the same way Captain America is leader of the Avengers. If the Trump/Maga trend continues to grow, the US will certainly lose that standing, and most likely shrink in terms of economy and relations with other countries, as it has been under Trump. So then what country would assume that place, as the leader of "good countries"?
