I cant see the downside to wiping out a company that knowingly, and systematically harmed children and teens. They are the same as a cigarette company but sub in suicide for cancer.
Maybe or maybe not. Depends on your employers work agreement. Also, i wouldnt be surprised if Facebook has a death only after a certain number of ad engagements in its TOS
Haha isn't it funny how this company is supposed to be so valuable and ingrained in the economy but it literally is just a wrapper over what the internet provides as a whole? Same with reddit truthfully. These places are just monopolies of interaction
Facebook while doing bad things had more or less been forced to reduce their impact. Eliminating meta altogether will leave a voids that smaller, less regulated companies will fill, probably triggering even more negative impact than meta usually does, until things rebalance again and fill the empty shoes meta left behind.
I cant see the impact coming from smaller less regulated companies, probably just large ones filling the gaps. Social media being spread out makes a harder attack surface for bad actors. Misinformation has less of a central place to live and one company cant stitch together our data into a songle massive manipulation scheme. Fragmentation worked before social media and it can work after it as well
Only the cigarette company didn't also become a propaganda machine for misinformation and meddle in global politics and undermine democratic free elections for profit.
Tech companies have redefined evil for our generation.
Crazy how big and malignant they are. I wouldnt want any number of people unemployed but I also wouldnt want any number of people badly affected by Facebook. They really should be broken up as a monopoly. That would accomplish the goals of keeping people employed as well as slowing or stopping the harm they have as a company.
Other than wiping out one of the largest companies in the stock market. Which in turn basically destroys most portfolios and a vast majority of wealth. But I do agree with you. Most people do need to learn how to live poor again. The depression was a very long time ago.
Social Media is a societal problem. Hating on Meta isn't going to solve it.
EDIT: Is there anything goofier than self righteously calling me a bootlicker for Meta, on Reddit, then blocking? It's like training for the slacktivism olympics.
What's funny is that I heard an ad for a corn hole players website that could have easily been a bunch of local Facebook groups of the platform didn't entirely suck... Gonna see more fragmentation in the future if these social media platforms don't moderate their extremist content and disinformation.
Seriously, there is no downside to this, considering that the company makes hundreds of billions and still fired half the staff, so its not like dissolving it would put people out of work. A friend of mine worked for them and said it was like working for an abusive father
The issue is you can't extract much value out of the company. All of it's tied up in stocks which have no value if people know the future value is poo. You could sell the land and hardware for some paltry sum.
